1 First-Time Setup f Mzilla Thunderbird v1.5 fr Windws, MacOS X, and Unix fr Plytechnic University s Systems Overview The fllwing instructins will assist yu in the first-time setup f Mzilla Thunderbird v1.5 fr Windws, MacOS, and Unix clients t wrk with yur Plytechnic University accunt. These instructins assume yu have installed Mzilla Thunderbird v1.5 fr the first-time. Thunderbird can be btained at the fllwing URL: Instructins Open Thunderbird. If yu have never frmerly setup an accunt in Thunderbird, an Accunt Wizard will appear. Otherwise, g t Tls > Accunt Settings. The Accunt Settings windw will pen. Click Add Accunt n the lwer left f the Accunt Settings windw. An Accunt Wizard will pen. On the New Accunt Setup page f the wizard, elect that yu wish t setup a new accunt and click Next. On the Identity page f the wizard, specify the fllwing: Yur Name as yu wish it t appear t recipients f yur s Yur address as was prvided t yu by the Infrmatin Systems Department. On the Server Infrmatin page, specify the fllwing: Elect POP as the type f incming server being used. Specify the Incming Server Name as prvided by the Infrmatin Systems Department (e.g. duke.ply.edu) Specify the Outging Server Name as prvided by the Infrmatin Systems Department (e.g. duke.ply.edu) Click Next. The fllwing instructins will assist yu in cnfiguring Thunderbird t send and receive securely. With Thunderbird pen, g t Tls > Accunt Settings. The Accunt Settings windw will pen. Select Server Settings under yur Plytechnic accunt within the cnfiguratin tree. Within the Security Settings sectin, select the SSL radi buttn. Within the SMTP Server dialg, d the fllwing: Within the Settings area, change the Prt t 465. Within the Security and Authenticatin area, Elect the Use Name and Passwrd ptin Ensure that the user name that appears beneath within the User Name field is yur Plytechnic accunt user name. Select the SSL radi buttn Click OK t clse the SMTP Server dialg Click OK t clse the Accunt Settings windw. Yu shuld nw be able t securely send and receive thrugh yur Plytechnic accunt frm anywhere.
