1 Using Sentry-g Enterprise/ASPX fr Sentry-g Quick & Plus! mnitrs 3Ds (UK) Limited, February, Be Practive, Nt Reactive! Intrductin Sentry-g Enterprise Reprting is a self-cntained additin t ur server mnitring slutins. It uses a central SQL Server database t cllect & cllate mnitred infrmatin frm arund the Sentry-g envirnment. This infrmatin is then centrally available thrugh a number f web reprts either directly frm the mnitr r thrugh an IIS-based web site called Sentry-g Enterprise/ASPX described here, allwing enterprise-wide reprting, as ppsed t standard reprts which are based per server. 2 Installatin Sentry-g Enterprise Reprting is simple t setup and requires nly a SQL Server database and the apprpriate licence key. With this cnfiguratin, integrated reprts are available directly frm any f the cntributing Quick r Sentry-g Plus! mnitrs. Fr mre infrmatin, please see the Installing Sentry-g Enterprise Reprting guide. The infrmatin described belw relates t the ptinal Sentry-g Enterprise/ASPX web site which can be installed separately n yur IIS server. Fr system requirements and details n installing Sentry-g Enterprise/ASPX, please refer t the Installing Sentry-g Enterprise/ASPX guide. Accessing Sentry-g Enterprise/ASPX Once Sentry-g Enterprise/ASPX has been installed, yu can access it frm any authrised brwser by entering the apprpriate URL, such as Web Server Name>/Sentry-gEReprt/default.aspx. Fr example If yu are unsure f the exact URL, please cntact yur system administratr. Lgging n By default, the system uses Windws authenticatin. If, when yu access the site the fllwing windw is displayed, yu must authenticate befre prceeding T cntinue, enter yur user Windws user name & assciated passwrd and click OK. Fr infrmatin n cnfiguring/prtecting access t Sentry-g Enterprise/ASPX, please refer t the Installing Sentryg Enterprise/ASPX guide.

3 Accessing Individual Reprts Once authenticated, yu will be presented by the system s menu, r hme page The links frm here give access t ther individual enterprise reprts, which are described in mre detail n the pages that fllw. Frm ther reprt-based pages, the buttn bar at the tp f each page als prvides direct access t these reprts.

4 Server Summary (Summary.aspx) URL: Web Server Name>/Sentry-gEReprt/Summary.aspx The system summary page gives a detailed verview f the health f all yur mnitred servers. In brief, it utlines the health f yur mnitred systems and highlights at a glance if primary errrs are ccurring. Frm here yu can see The current status f each mnitred server Green brder If the server shws a green brder, it is respnding as expected and the infrmatin shwn is up t date, based n the last scan available scan. Red brder A red brder indicates that server has nt fed status infrmatin with the Enterprise database within the expected timeframe. This may indicate that the server is ff-line r a netwrk errr is preventing access t it. The details shwn, if any, are based n the last available infrmatin and may nt be up t date. The name f the server. Click the link t display full infrmatin n the given system (see belw).

5 The current health f the server. This is the Sentry-g health scre fr the server and represents the verall percentage f success fr each check when it was last perfrmed A value f 100% (all green) indicates that every check that was last perfrmed was successful. A value belw 100% (part red) indicates that ne r mre f the checks failed last time rund. Click the Shw Status link at the bttm f the blck t shw details f which item(s) failed, r the server name fr mre details n the server itself. The fllwing infrmatin is als shwn fr each server. Typically this infrmatin is updated every 30 secnds r s. If perfrmance mnitring has been custmised n the target server, this value may be updated mre r less frequently, depending n the settings cnfigured. Even if perfrmance mnitring is nt cnfigured n the server, CPU usage, memry and disk space infrmatin is available t the Enterprise system CPU. This is the last knwn % f CPU usage fr the target server. The higher the value, the harder the server is having t wrk. A cntinually high value ver time may indicate that the server is struggling t handle the wrklad being asked f it. Islated spikes, hwever, may simply indicate a busy perid which is acceptable. Memry. This is the last knwn % f memry in-use vs ttal memry accessible t the server. The higher the value, the less free memry is available fr applicatins t use. Disk. These values shw the fixed disks with the lwest available free space n the server. Depending n the server s cnfiguratin and what s being mnitred, ne r tw disks (with the least available space) may be shwn. The links at the bttm f each blck allw yu t access bth current status and recent alerts fr the given server.

6 Display ptins Click Shw Display Optins t allw further cnfiguratin f the reprt Shw (list). Allws yu t determine the servers shwn and the sequence in which they are displayed All Sentry-g Mnitrs (uncntactable first). This is the default ptin and shws any server that cannt be accessed first in the list. All Sentry-g Mnitrs (alphabetical rder). This ptin shws all servers in name rder, regardless f status. All Sentry-g Mnitrs that cannt be accessed. This ptin shws nly unavailable servers. Shw/Hide Main Header. Click this link t shw r remve the header and thus prvide mre space t shw server details. Aut-refresh. When ticked, the status reprt will peridically be refreshed with the latest recrded values autmatically. Tick-bxes. Tick r un-tick these ptins t determine the values displayed fr each server.

7 Cmpact Server Summary (CmpactSummaryNHeader.aspx) URL: Web Server Name>/Sentry-gEReprt/CmpactSummaryNHeader.aspx The cmpact summary is ideally suited t helpdesks and server administratin departments and prvides a graphical view f the status f all servers. In this view, each server is represented by a clur cded buttn Green buttn The server shwn is respnding as expected and currently has a 100% health value. N alerts were triggered in the last mnitr scan. Click the buttn t find ut mre abut the server & cnfigured checks. Yellw buttn A yellw buttn indicates that server has nt fed status infrmatin with the Enterprise database within the expected timeframe. This may indicate that the server is ff-line r a netwrk errr is preventing access t it. Click the buttn t find ut when the server last respnded etc. Red buttn A red buttn indicates that server is respnding as expected but ne r mre checks failed during the last mnitring scan. Click the buttn t find ut which checks failed. Display ptins Click Shw Display Optins t further cnfigure the reprt cnfiguratin f the reprt, including mnitr sequence, aut-refresh settings and the ability t tggle back t the detailed summary display.

8 Current Mnitred Status (Status.aspx) URL: Web Server Name>/Sentry-gEReprt/Status.aspx The status reprt shws details f all mnitred checks and their latest recrded value, fr each server. It gives detailed infrmatin n the checks being run, the alert threshlds applied and the values mst recently lgged with the Enterprise database. The status list shws The latest status f each mnitred check Green indicates the check has been run and passed last time rund. Yellw - indicates the check has nt yet been run. Red indicates the check has been run and failed last time rund. Server Name. The name f the server n which the check was run. Click the link t display full infrmatin n the given system (see belw). Last Run. The date/time the check was last run. Check. The name f the check that was perfrmed. Alerting. Details f the threshld that is applied t the check t determine whether an alert will be triggered r nt. Current Status. Details f the check s last knwn value including whether it passed r failed.

This is the default ptin and shws all checks, gruped by server. All mnitred checks, with errrs first. This ptin shws all mnitred checks, but with errrs raised t the tp f the list. Only checks that failed last time rund. This ptin lists nly checks that failed. Server. This list allws yu t restrict the values shwn t a particular server nly (r all servers). Cmpnent. This list allws yu t restrict the values shwn t a particular mnitring cmpnent (r all mnitring ptins). Aut-refresh. When ticked, the status reprt will peridically be refreshed with the latest recrded values autmatically.

11 Recent Triggered Alerts (Alerts.aspx) URL: Web Server Name>/Sentry-gEReprt/Alerts.aspx The recent alerts reprt shws details f the latest errrs triggered frm each mnitred server. These are the same details as reprted lcally by the mnitr. The status list shws The mnitring cmpnent that triggered the errr. Server Name. The name f the server that triggered the alert. Click the link t display full infrmatin n the given system (see belw). Date/Time. The date/time the alert was triggered. Cmpnent. The name f the cmpnent triggering the alert. Alert. Details f the alert that was triggered. Alerts frm this server. Click this link t shw all alerts frm the selected server. Alerts frm this cmpnent. Click this link t shw alerts frm the selected cmpnent, frm all servers. Pssible Slutins. Click this link t access the Sentry-g Slutins web site, which can help prvide answers t the selected alert by searching ther internet resurces.

This allws yu t further restrict the list based n a keywrd r phrase. Only alerts cntaining the text entered will be shwn. Where multiple pages are displayed, click thrugh the pages shwn t navigate further within the list.

13 Installatin Statistics (Statistics.aspx) URL: Web Server Name>/Sentry-gEReprt/Statistics.aspx This reprt shws summary infrmatin fr the Enterprise system, as well as individual servers.

14 Cnfiguratin Errrs (CnfigErrrs.aspx) URL: Web Server Name>/Sentry-gEReprt/CnfigErrrs.aspx This reprt shws a list f any cnfiguratin errrs being reprted by any f the Sentry-g mnitrs within yur envirnment. Details include the cmpnent and specific details relating t the errr, allwing yu t take crrective actin lcally n the mnitred server as required.

15 Enterprise Reprting Settings (Settings.aspx) URL: Web Server Name>/Sentry-gEReprt/Settings.aspx This page allws yu t further cnfigure the settings used by bth the Sentry-g Enterprise Optin system and the Enterprise Reprting web site. Frm here yu can view & edit Remve uncntactable servers frm list after (days) This ptin determines hw many days a server that cannt be cntacted remains recrded within the Enterprise database. After this many days, if the server has nt recrded any infrmatin, it is autmatically remved frm the system. The Enterprise system is self-maintaining. This ptin allws fr the autmatic remval f decmmissined servers. Remve recrded alerts after (days) This ptin determines hw many days an alert is listed within the Enterprise Optin database befre being remved. The Enterprise system is self-maintaining. This ptin allws fr the autmatic remval f decmmissined servers.

16 Summary & status reprt aut-refresh interval (secnds) Sme enterprise reprts can be autmatically refreshed at regular intervals in rder t cntinually shw up t date infrmatin. The value here determines hw ften this refresh will ccur, when enabled. The lwer the value, the mre ften the web reprt will be refreshed.
