1 Creating a Wired Hme Netwrk with a Linksys Ruter and a Westell 2200 Mdem Nte: These directins assume yu have installed yur Westell 2200 mdem, and yu can cnnect t the Internet thrugh yur mdem. The first step in the prcess f installing yur Linksys ruter is t change yur Westell 2200 mdem frm PPPE t bridge mde. 1. Open yur Web brwser and enter in the Address field. 2. Click Hme in the tp menu t verify yu are n the Hme page. 3. Frm the Cnfiguratin menu, select VC Cnfiguratin. 4. Enter yur user name and passwrd. 4 10. Click OK at the prmpt asking if yu want t reset yur cnfiguratin nw. A message displays t indicate the mdem is resetting. When the mdem is reset, yu are returned t the Hme page. 11. Verify that the DHCP LAN server is turned ff by selecting DHCP Cnfiguratin frm the Cnfiguratin menu. 12. Select Off frm the drp-dwn list fr the DHCP Server field. 13. Select Save. 14. 5 15. Select Private LAN Cnfiguratin frm the Cnfiguratin menu. 16. Verify that Private LAN DHCP Server Enable is unchecked. 17. Select Save. 18. Clse yur brwser windw. After yu have changed the mde frm PPPE t bridge, yu are ready t install yur Linksys ruter. 19. Shut dwn and pwer ff yur cmputer, DSL mdem, and all printers. 20. Discnnect the mdem Ethernet cable frm the back f the cmputer nly. D nt discnnect it frm the mdem. 21. Plug the Ethernet cable yu just remved frm yur cmputer int the WAN prt n the back f the ruter. 6 Rear view f the Linksys BEFSR41 Ruter 22. Using a new Ethernet cable, plug ne end int ne f the numbered prts n the back f the ruter (1-4 r 1-8, depending n the mdel). 23. Plug the ther end f the new Ethernet cable int the back f yur cmputer (where the cable cming frm the mdem was previusly plugged in). 24. Cnnect the pwer adapter t the ruter s pwer prt n the back panel f the ruter. 25. Plug the ther end f the pwer adapter int an electrical utlet and verify that the Pwer light n the ruter is lit. 26. Pwer n the cmputer. 27. Check the status lights n the mdem and n the ruter. Verify that the fllwing lights n the Westell 2200 mdem are n (green). 7 Verify that the fllwing lights n the Linksys ruter are n (green). Pwer light. Link/Act light. Link light in the WAN sectin. 28. Open a web brwser like Internet Explrer r Netscape. 29. Enter in the Address field and press Enter. 30. When the dialg bx displays, leave the Username field blank and enter admin in the Passwrd field. 31. Click OK. 8 27. Verify that the Setup tab is selected in the Linksys windw. 28. Select PPPE frm the drp-dwn list fr the Select the Internet cnnectin type yu wish t use field. 29. Enter yur Verizn Online user name and passwrd. 30. Click Apply. 31. Click Cntinue t return t the Setup screen. 32. Clse the Linksys windw t cmplete the setup. Nte: The Westell 2200 is already cnfigured t cnnect t Verizn DSL. D nt use the Verizn Online DSL sftware t initiate a cnnectin. After yu've entered the infrmatin int the fields n the Setup tab, it's imprtant t verify the status f yur ruter. 32. 9 33. Verify that "Cnnected" displays as the status. If "Discnnected" displays, click Cnnect. 34. Clse yur web brwser and then repen it t apply the new settings. The final step in the ruter installatin is t test yur hme netwrk cnnectins by verifying yur cnnectivity t the Internet. 35. Duble-click n the Internet Explrer icn n yur desktp r pen any Web brwser. 36. Enter in the Address field t verify that yu can cnnect t the Internet.
