1 Purpose of Tonight s Meeting Informational Open House to discuss two City projects: Fairchild Street Subway Phase I Engineering: Immediate need to replace subway Bowman Avenue Feasibility Study Future need to reduce delays Welcome! Goal is to LISTEN TO YOU

2 What is a Grade Separation? When a road intersects with a railroad at the same level, it is called an at grade crossing. There are two t d i Th t at grade crossings on Bowman Avenue within the project limits. When the road and the railroad are separated so that one bridges over the other, this is called a grade separation At a railroad grade separation. At a railroad grade separation, either the road can pass under the or the road can pass over the railroad. 4 Fairchild Street Alternatives All alternatives provide for pedestrians and bicycles. All alternatives provide for onelane oftraffic in eachdirection (2 lanes total.) All alternatives improve the Fairchild St./Bowman Av. intersection. All alternatives provide for potential extension of Collett St.

7 Property Acquisition Process REGULATED by Federal Law (Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Actof 1970) and reviewed by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) for transportation projects. UNBIASED process Independentappraisal (land costs + damages) Independent review appraisal Offer Negotiations Acquisition or Eminent Domain Relocation Assistance (if necessary)

Option to rehabilitate hbl subway for pedestrian and bicycle use Eliminates existing east west frontage road on north side of subway. Requires additional right of way and easements Requires the acquisition of 2 houses Alters access to some houses and commercial buildings.
