2 ABOUT CHALK CIRCLE Mission Statement Chalk Circle is an independent not-for-profit organisation that creates conversations around gender literacy to empower the next generation. Purpose Founded by volunteers in Melbourne in 2014, we engage the community with credible, relatable and empowering information regarding gender literacy and equality. Our priority populations are young people and people from traditionally marginalised demographics. To engage these groups we run educational programs and events designed to balance critical engagement with fun, safe and interactive conversations. Why Chalk Circle? Chalk Circle, as both an organisation name and concept, acknowledges that people often feel compelled to operate as though a faint chalk line is drawn around them, restricting them to specific gender roles and responses. This chalk outline also references the serious and sometimes violent outcomes that can occur when resources are unequally distributed and gender roles are rigid (VicHealth, 2007). Chalk Circle articulates the opportunity to create awareness around gender roles and work through educative models and structures to erase restrictions due to gender. Importantly, Chalk Circle presents an opportunity to rub out a past of gender inequality; and draw a future in which all people, especially those from traditionally marginalised demographics, are equal. What is Gender Literacy? Gender literacy is an evolving concept that recognises the merit of encouraging the community to have conversations regarding gender roles and gender inequality. Emma Goldman famously said that the most violent element in society is ignorance. This is why at Chalk Circle we believe that setting a standard whereby the community is expected to be gender literate places the onus on society to critically engage with the effects of rigid gender roles and their relationship with gender inequality, discrimination, oppression and sometimes violence. 3 POSITION OVERVIEW Chalk Circle is currently seeking a motivated and experienced person to fulfil the role of Social Media Project Manager for our Gender Dialogues 2015 event series in Melbourne and Darwin. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and managing the delivery of the organisation s online social media communication strategy for our two major mid-year event projects. The successful candidate will have access to and be responsible for managing Chalk Circle s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts and liaise with our in-house design team. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, vibrant and show great initiative. Must be confident working independently and exercising discretion with online posting. Previous experience managing professional online social media pages will be looked upon favourably. RESPONSIBILITIES Given the nature of a start-up organisation, we need a team member who is confident and comfortable with the prospect of taking initiative with limited direction. Responsibilities for the successful candidate include: Creative direction setting up and maintaining Chalk Circle s social media accounts in a responsible, creative manner which respects our organisation values and mission. Project management oversee project development, implementation and delivery of Chalk Circle s social media strategy and take measures to ensure all content is respectful and sensitive to trigger issues. Planning identify aims, strategies, responsibilities and timelines to deliver social media strategy. Give design team notice in advance for any work they may need to produce for the social media pages. Marketing orchestrate engagement strategy to increase social media reach, achieve a growth in likes, implement promotion strategy and deliver conversation strategy with followers. Representing an organisation consistently present the organisation and its programs in strong, positive images and language online. Delivering the vision - maintain a positive external climate in line with the organisation mission. Being part of a team work alongside the design time who will create any tiles necessary for delivering the social media strategy.

4 DUTIES Create a (short-term) Social Media Strategy Document Curate relevant content to reach the organiation s target audience Create, curate and manage all published content (images, video and written) Monitor, listen and respond to users Develop and expand community outreach efforts Oversee design (i.e Facebook Timeline cover, profile picture, thumbnails, ads, Twitter profile etc) Become an advocate for Chalk Circle in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate. Identify threats and opportunities in user generated content surrounding the business. Report notable threats to appropriate management. Monitor effective benchmarks (best practices) for measuring the impact of social media campaigns. Analyse, review, and report on effectiveness of campaigns in an effort to maximise results. DESIRED SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES Our ideal candidate for this position will be, at a minimum, entering their second year of an undergraduate Communications and/or PR degree, or have at least 12 months professional experience in Communications and/or Marketing. Preferably, they will also have a well-informed interest in, or be studying a major/minor in, gender studies. The successful candidate will have excellent written communication skills, experience in writing copy, the ability to negotiate competing deadlines, and good teamwork management skills. To work in this team management role a candidate will need initiative and the ability to work with limited guidance. Comfortable taking initiative and confident working independently Exceptional written communication skills Experience working in social media marketing strategy and/or communications Positive drive to move the organisation forward Demonstrable organisation and time management skills Enthusiasm to work hard and effectively during agreed committed hours

5 In-depth understanding of gender-related issues and feminism Broad knowledge of existing resources and organisations working the gender and feminist space QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Possesses knowledge and experience in the tenets of traditional marketing. Marketing degree is welcomed but not required with relevant work experience. Demonstrates creativity and documented immersion in Social Media. Proficient in content marketing theory and application. Experience sourcing and managing content development and publishing. Exhibits the ability to jump from the creative side of marketing to analytical side, able to demonstrate why their ideas are analytically sound. Displays in-depth knowledge and understanding of Social Media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, Google+Local, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios. Is a team player with the confidence to take the lead and guide other employees when necessary (ie: content development, creation and editing of content, and online reputation management). Makes evident good technical understanding and can pick up new tools quickly.
