To learn more, visit: THE OPPORTUNITY ASSOCIATE DEAN EXECUTIVE EDUCATION Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean of the Executive Education unit within the Alberta School of Business is responsible for establishing the strategic direction for the unit and providing overall leadership to the Executive Education team, while ensuring alignment and coordination with broader Alberta School of Business vision and strategy. The Associate Dean will work closely with the Dean, as well as senior executives and faculty, to position the Executive Education unit as a highly visible component of the Alberta School of Business complementing the School's degree programs that maintains and further enhances the School's relationship and reputation with important external constituents (local, provincial, national and international). 1
3 Key Roles & Responsibilities Lead a high performance team of approximately 20 staff through vision, values, strategic planning and cultivating positive corporate culture. Work with close to 50 faculty and instructors to ensure the learning and business goals of clients, and the academic integrity and responsibilities on instructional teams are aligned. Lead program growth. Establish, chair, or provide guidance to several advisory committees. Lead stakeholder engagement and relationship management. Oversee client relationships in all sectors especially energy/environment, finance, health care, public safety and government. Oversee the facilities on three campus locations, including the downtown campus in Enterprise Square, the Stollery Centre on the north campus in the Alberta School of Business, and the University of Alberta Calgary Centre as well as significant off site programming across northern and western Canada. Write and implement the unit s annual strategic plan in collaboration with senior leadership. Identify areas of expertise within the Alberta School of Business' Departments and Centres that offer the potential for high quality and high profile educational initiatives for external parties that will enhance the School's reputation. Raise the profile of Executive Education, the Alberta School of Business and the University of Alberta through regular interface with television and print media, and through consistent support of business and philanthropic events in Edmonton. Raise program size, revenues and profitability, in a manner consistent with increasing relevance and impact, and improving the School's reputation. THE PERSON Required Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience: Requires a university degree, in a related discipline, with strong preference for a graduate degree (MBA, or other graduate degree in a relevant discipline); an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Ten years experience in Executive Education, program development and corporate training. Experience and familiarity with an academic environment, as well as university process and procedures. 2
4 Proven success in building strong professional relationships, collaborating, and using networks to garner support from key decision makers for leadership and management education. Maintains high ethical standards to support business codes of conduct. Excellent leadership, management skills and communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills, including good coaching, consultation and negotiation skills. A working knowledge of the complexities of decision structures within the not-for-profit, government, and business sectors. Knowledge of educational policy and the integration of professional designations and continuing education. Ability to manage a number of competing priorities. Ability to analyze problems and find practical solutions. Manage and control budgets and financial reports. Is able to lead through change and adapt to change. Leads the strategic planning process; a team leader and a team player; works effectively in a collaborative environment and has successfully encouraged and fostered the same operating style in others.
