Writing and Vide Prjects (60%) The best way t learn t write is t write; we get better thrugh challenge and practice. Each writing prject will imprve yur skill. 4 4 We live in a multimedia age where traditinal writing is blending with images and sund. In this class, we will take part in this trend, using digital vide t tell stries. Almst always, a pwerful stry grws ut f a prcess with steps: prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. We will take the publishing step in the prcess very directly and put ur digital stries nline! If yu d nt cmplete all drafts f all prjects, yu may nt pass the class. 2. Hmewrk, Quizzes, and In-class Activities (20%) I smetimes assign written hmewrk, and I tend t give it as needed and when it supprts a larger prject. Fr many class meetings, yu will have smething t read and a quiz t take fr it. Quizzes are nly available during the class they re given. I als ccasinally cllect in-class activities. 3. Class Participatin (10%) I assume each f yu has a cmmitment t yur educatin. Why else wuld yu be here? Therefre, we can t waste a single minute. We will spend the bulk f class time ding, nt watching r listening; I will nt treat yu as banks int which I put funds! I need yu t act as mre than a savings accunt. Yu must make it t every class and cme prepared t participate. Students get the mst ut f my classes (and help thers t d the same) when they are alert and ready t g. If yu ever have questins abut yur class participatin, please let me knw. 4. WRIT Center Visit (10%) N matter her level f experience, every writer needs a reader. Whenever I write smething imprtant, I shw it t at least tw friends. Then, I have t buy them dinner! Yu, hwever, have the chance t receive n-strings-attached assistance frm a skilled reader. If yu bring a writing assignment t the WRIT Center (lcated n the Main Campus in the LLIC near rm A-125), a trained cnsultant will help yu with it. Yur writing can be at any stage in the prcess. WRIT stands fr Writing, Reading, & Infrmatin Technlgy. Alng with writing, the WRIT Center can als help yu with reading assignments and with cmputer-related questins. Yu culd take a difficult reading t the WRIT and get help, r yu culd ask them fr help with yur digital stry. T earn 10% f yur final ENG 090 grade, use the WRIT Center at least nce this semester. Class Matters Structured Learning Assistance (SLA) Structured Learning Assistance (SLA) is a prgram f mandatry directed study and practice wrkshps attached t Bridge Prgram curses. It is: Curse centered Study and learning strategies are applied t the specific cntent students

Backgrund enhancement Students are prvided with cntent-specific backgrund infrmatin t assist them in making cnnectins between their prir knwledge and the class assignments and presentatins. Cllabrative Students are invlved in grup activities and study teams. As a regular part f this ENG 090 class, yu are required t attend all SLA sessins. Our SLA Leader will take attendance, and mre than three sessin absences will affect yur class participatin grade. The Pace f Learning The great thing abut cllege is that yu re in the driver s seat; yu cntrl the pace at which yu learn. A cllege is a place fr dialgue, s it is bth gd and apprpriate fr us t talk abut the things that matter t us. I encurage yu t apprach these elephants with empathy and respect.
