To work with hub schools to provide a service for schools that will raise standards of Welsh and contribute to reducing the impact of poverty on educational attainment. To provide school-based interventions and programmes justified by the impact they are intended to have on regional needs, participants and learners. The ability to undertake the role through the medium of Welsh is essential. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

2 1. To contribute to the strategic development of the hubs and to take responsibility for development in key aspects Welsh where required. 2. To line manage and review the effectiveness of the Welsh in Education Team and ensure that is able to deliver work to a high standard. 3. To work with schools and local authorities to ensure that the Central South region becomes an outstanding place for teaching, school leadership and pupils achievement. 4. To work collaboratively with hub schools and challenge advisers to plan and provide support of high quality, including classroom-based support, programmes that meet regional needs and peer mentoring, to improve in response to the commissioning of intensive support for schools where the need to improve standards is greatest by the strategic adviser. 5. To strengthen school-to-school support through the regional consortia and in partnership with other stakeholders with the requisite expertise. 6. To support the delivery of intensive Welsh-language training to practitioners through the Sabbatical Scheme. 7. To work with Estyn and identify best practice in the teaching and learning of Welsh second language and determine how schools are performing at key stages 2 and To work with the Education Workforce Council to determine the Welshlanguage skills of the current workforce. 9. To promote Welsh as a subject and as a skill for the workplace. 10.To promote the Welsh Language Act and ensure compliance with the act for the CSC. 11.To support the work of hub schools and challenge advisers by contributing to the diagnosis of need and furnishing evidence of the impact of support and intervention in individual schools. 12.To work with hub school to the plan and implement programmes of professional development for teachers and teaching assistants in line with the vision of the business plan to build outstanding capacity, taking responsibility for specific aspects where required. 13.To provide an innovative and leading-edge support and networking service in order to improve standards. 14.To lead areas to the development of school-led school-to-school support by working closely with challenge advisers, strategic advisers, hub schools and other agreed specialists to identify and disseminate effective practice.

3 15.To secure the effective engagement of hub schools in the design, delivery and evaluation of services. 16.To monitor the delivery, quality and efficiency of aspects of the hub schools for which the postholder has responsibility and to make suitable arrangements for the evaluation of impact. 17.To write reports to a high quality and in a timely fashion in line with the policies and procedures of the Central South Consortium. 18.To participate in programmes of agreed personal professional development and so contribute to the provision of a service of the highest quality. 19.To be accountable for personal performance through agree performance management procedures. 20.To carry out health and safety responsibilities in accordance with the Division s Health & Safety Responsibilities document. 21.To undertake such other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the grade, as may be reasonably required by the Service Director, or as a mutually agreed development opportunity. THE CONTENTS OF THE DOCUMENT WILL BE SUBJECT TO REVIEW FROM TIME TO TIME IN CONSULTATION WITH THE POST HOLDER. JOB DESCRIPTIONS MAY BE AMENDED TO REFLECT AND RECORD SUCH CHANGES.
