It is so hard to believe that we are already in the last two weeks before holidays! As always, the school is bustling as students prepare for the concert. Our hallways are aglow with the wonderment of the beautiful holiday decorations. We are so thankful for our parent helpers for making our school look so festive. In addition, the excitement is in the air as students participate in the KPA Santa s workshop, and we are so appreciative of our KPA. 3 KPA Korner December 2016 Bottle Drive Fundraiser Bring your recyclable beverage containers into the school on January 12th & 13th during school hours and January 14th from 10:00 AM 12:00 PM. Santa s Workshop Thank you to all our volunteers, families and students for making this event an amazing success! Boston Pizza Receipts We want to thank all our parents who submitted receipts from Boston Pizza. Please know that we are still accepting receipts from Boston Pizza. We receive 5% back on all receipts submitted. Cobs Bread When you checkout with your order, let them know you are with Keenooshayo Elementary School at the till and we get 5% back. Our next meeting is January 16th in the library at 7:00pm. All are welcome! All of the funds we raise are used to support our school. Thank you for all your support throughout the years! 4 Snow and cold are here! Please send weather-appropriate clothing for your child every day. Packing an extra pair of clothes to keep at school is suggested. Please remember to label all of your child s clothing and winter gear. Please refer to our school website for important dates to remember! 5 Sledding Expectations Snow has arrived! Keenooshayo has a few hills around our school building, and we allow our students to bring crazy carpets and foam sleds (at teacher s discretion) only to school for use during recess time. For the safety of our students, we are informing both students and parents of the following sledding expectations: Grade 1 3 students sled on the hill behind the school. Grade 4 6 students sled on the hill near the red and blue park. Adult supervision should be on site prior to sledding. No sledding should take place until a supervisor is present. Only one student on a carpet at a time. Students are to be in a sitting position on carpets when sledding down the hill. Students must have a clear path before sledding down the hill. The student before them must be clear and away from the path. Students need to wear the proper winter gear when sledding (snow pants, toque, mitts, and winter coat). Students need to get off their sled, move to the far right or left and then proceed up the hill. Students need to be observant of directions given by supervisor at all times. i.e. Always be looking up the hill to see who and where others are coming down. If you are not following safe sledding practices these consequences may occur: a. Warning (1st warning). b. Lose privilege of sledding for remainder of recess (2 nd warning). c. After the second loss of privilege the student will lose crazy carpet privileges for one week. (3 rd warning). Keenooshayo Has A New Foster Child! We still have some yearbooks left from last year. If you did not purchase one and would still like a yearbook, see Mrs. Juse in the office. $20 each Our new Foster Child, Kenday Lohan Portillo Castillo, is six years old and lives in Intibuca, Honduras, Central America. She lives with her Grandmother and Grandfather. Intibuca has a one lane highway and dirt roads. Kenday's family lives about 30 minutes away from the nearest Health Facility. She enjoys being in grade one and plays football (soccer) at recess. She is looking forward to the holidays and celebrating her birthday on January 25th. Kenday lives in an area that is part of the UNESCO Heritage site! School fees invoices have been sent home. To pay your fees, login to your Power School Parent Portal at ps.spschools.org/public.
