We would love to have 100% attendance on October 1 st. Please see page 2 for further details.

2 What Is October Count? If you have been attending Colorado public schools for any amount of time, you have most likely heard of October Count. Across the state, student attendance is an important focus on October 1 st. This designated day is the one day that the state of Colorado looks at attendance of individual students. From this one day snapshot of data, the state determines the funding the school will receive and is the only source for PPOR (Per Pupil Operating Revenue). As a charter school, our funding is of significant value. We receive $6, for each student that attends Windsor Charter Academy. Last year we had 11 students absent. While that seems minimal, it has a significant impact on our annual budget, totaling over $60,000! It is our hope that we re able to minimize this number this coming school year. We would love to have 100% attendance! Dress code Policy Change on Shoes On Thursday, September 26, 2013, the board had a 2 nd read on the dress code specific to shoes. The following is the new policy. Color is no longer specified. All shoes must have closed toes, heels, and sides. Acceptable styles include athletic, oxford, Mary Jane s, loafers, and boots. No lighted, character, or platform shoes allowed. Heels must be lower than 1 1/2 inches. Snow boots can only be worn outdoors. They must be removed after the student returns to class. Boys Basketball Informational Meeting On Thursday, October 3 rd at 7pm in WCA Gym meet with Coach Travis Seyboldt & Athletic Director Beth Leininger to receive participation paperwork, forms, schedule and other practical information needed. 5 th grade students are invited to join the team. Donation needed for Our Yearbook Crew If you see a great deal on 2GB SD cards, SD card to USB readers, feel free to pick one or more up for the yearbook crew to use this year. We will provide you with a donation receipt. Also, if you have pictures from your child s class, we would love to have for you to share we may use them in the Yearbook. 3 WCA collected supplies for our Coloradoans impacted by the flood. Each grade level collected a specific item look at all of the supplies our school collected! Our Girl Scout Brownie troop were our ambassadors delivering donations to those in need. Our seventh graders enjoyed their experience completing the ropes course! What an amazing opportunity to build team skills! SEVENTH GRADE WINDSOR CHARTER STUDENTS

5 Important Little Notes. Vision and Hearing screenings will be held October 14th and 15th. Students should remember to wear/bring their corrective lenses. Volunteers needed! If your child eats hot lunches, don t forget to sign up for the School Payment Solutions. It will notify you when your student s lunch balance falls negative. It will also easily tell you what your child's lunch balance is. If you haven t done this yet, sign up today for your family account. WCA Specials Qdoba Fundraiser Results Thank you so much to everyone who sold Qdoba coupons to help our Specials Teachers. Filled envelopes will be distributed before the end of the day on Friday. Please make sure you deliver the coupons to those who purchased them. The front office will have a few more available for purchase the next weeks if you need more. Also, a big thank you to Massage Envy in Fort Collins for donating 1 hour massages for winning teacher classes. We raised over $9000 together as a school!
