1 UWA / City Beach Water Pl Club Inc Junir Water Pl Prgram U14 (Brn 2003, 2004, 2005) Teams City Beach WPC is nw ne f the largest clubs in Australia with ver 750 playing members cmprising bth male and female players aged frm 7 t 65 years ld. The management structure f the club prvides fr a cmmittee delegate fr each player grup (14U, 16U etc) t ensure every member has equal representatin t play and enjy water pl. UWA / City Beach WPC prvides significant financial and human resurces int its junir prgrams with ur main pririty being t ensure that players entering State Junir League cmpetitins, 14U Teams, are still playing the sprt at a cmpetitive level in future 16U & 18U teams. In the past, junir players have drpped ut in the lder junir ranks t pursue ther interests and it is hped ur chrt plicy by selecting players f the same age, wh want t play water pl as their first chice sprt will limit future player lsses. With the recent increase in the number f junirs playing water pl at UWA / CBWPC, it has becme necessary t utline a guide as t hw ur junir prgram perates which will allw bth the aspiratins f a player wishing t reach elite playing levels as well as thse players wh are mre interested in the fun and excitement the sprt prvides. Recent results bth at state and natinal level, particularly in the bys divisin indicate that this prgram is the best in Australia. This past Easter the bys wn gld at bth the State and Natinal Champinships. The girls wn Silver in the State Champinship and was placed 13 th (25 Teams) in the Natinal Champinships. Intrductin t Water Pl UWA / City Beach WPC intrduces water pl t yung bys and girls thrugh a mdified game called Flippa Ball in partnership with Flippa Swim. Flippa Swim Flippa Swim is a great way t imprve swimming skills as well as basic water pl mvements. It is just fun and widely enjyed by yung players aged 7 10 years f age. It frms the skill develpment fr yung bys and girls playing Flippa Ball.

2 Flippa Ball Flippa Ball is water pl played with n cntact and has mdified rules t teach yung players the basics f water pl. It is just fun and widely enjyed by yung players aged 7 10 years f age r schl grades 2-5. Yung players prgressing beynd Flippa Ball will then be ready t play with their schl mates in UWA / City Beach s District Schl Cmpetitin. District Schl Cmpetitin UWA / City Beach WPC has a strng schl based cmpetitin played n Saturday mrnings at HBF Stadium. The rules f the game, as determined by FINA, are nw played in this cmpetitin. There are separate cmpetitins based n schl grade chrts fr bth bys and girls. The cmpetitins are generally as fllws:- Grade 5 & 6 Grade 7, 8 & 9 The District Schl Cmpetitin is the talent identificatin pl where yung players may be invited t give water pl a mre serius interest including the Winter Academy Winter Academy All players wh participate in the District Schl Cmpetitin and lder players (grades 4 & 5) participating in the Flippa Ball prgram are invited t the Winter Academy. The Winter Academy is a prgram t teach basic water pl skills - catch & sht, bdy psitin & game awareness, with an emphasis placed n imprving swimming speed. Players lacking pl speed are encuraged t jin the City Beach WPC swimming squad t help imprve their swimming times. In the last mnth f the Winter Academy training perid, trials fr selectin in UWA / City Beach s 14U representative teams t play against ther State Junir League Clubs is undertaken. Therefre, the Winter Academy is central t a player s water pl develpment and prgressin int the club s Elite Prgram. Players wh d nt participate in the Winter Academy electing t play winter sprts (ftball netball etc) will fall behind in their skill develpment and find it difficult t be selected in UWA / City Beach s representative 14U teams playing n Mnday night against ther State Junir League Clubs. Tw Streams Summer Sprt fr Fun & Elite Prgram Summer Sprt fr fun A junir player wh likes playing water pl and enjys a regular cmpetitive game withut the regime f intensive weekly training is mst suited t play in ur district schl cmpetitin. These players wuld nly participate in ur summer prgrams and wuld nt be selected in club representative games cmpeting against ther State Junir League clubs. The last page f this dcument shws the player pathway. There is a place at UWA / City Beach fr any player prgressing beynd the junir divisin and wishing t play the sprt fr fun until a mature age.

3 Elite Prgram A junir player wh really enjys playing water pl, is a strng swimmer and is prepared t train bth summer and winter is mst suited t the elite 14U prgram. A junir player entering this prgram wuld participate in the Winter Academy and having attained a satisfactry level f skill develpment wuld then be selected in a representative 14U team f the club playing against ther State Junir League clubs n a Mnday night. The anticipatin f the club is that a junir player wuld then remain with this age chrt and prgress right thrugh all ages f ur junir cmpetitins. Mnday Night Cmpetitin Players selected t represent UWA / City Beach WPC n a Mnday night are perceived t be very interested in a playing future in water pl. They are mst likely t have participated in the Winter Academy and have imprved their basic water pl skills frm the previus summer seasn. Players cannt register t play n a Mnday night (via the web site) unless they have first been selected. Mnday night Team selectin is generally based n the fllwing criteria. Swimming speed & fitness. Water pl is a swimming sprt and therefre the fastest swimmers generally make the better water pl players. Attendance t training generally 2 ut f every three training sessins is a minimum attendance Behaviur and ability t carry ut instructins at training fling arund and nt listening t instructin leads t pr quality training sessins. Perfrmance in training games players that train mre ften, listen t instructin and want t be better, becme the players that meet the benchmark f ur elite prgram.. T match the Natinal Water Pl cmpetitin frmat, UWA / CBWPC will pick 14U junir teams based n age chrts i.e. brn 2003, 2004, 2005 etc. Therefre nly a limited number f players can be selected in any ne age chrt. With this in mind, a precius spt in the prestigius 14U Bears team will have an underlying cmmitment by a player f being ne wh aspires t the bjective f the club by playing right thrugh the junir divisins and making water pl a first chice sprt. A selectin panel cmprising the 14U caches, UWA / CBWPC Head Caches & the 14U Cmmittee Delegates will make the final decisin n the 14U team selectins. Teams are generally selected n the fllwing chrt basis:- A Grade 14UA Bears Brn 2003 the tp aged chrt cmprising players wh are skilful and are cmmitted t playing water pl as a first chice sprt. 14UA Glds Brn 2004 the next yungest chrt with players wh are skilful and are cmmitted t playing water pl as a first chice sprt. 14UA Blues Brn the tp aged chrt with players wh are yet t define their skills and are cmmitted t playing water pl as a first chice sprt. B Grade 14UB Whites Brn 2004 the next yungest chrt with players wh are yet t define their skills and are cmmitted t playing water pl as a first chice sprt. 14UB Cubs Brn the bttm aged chrt with players wh have been identified as being skilful and are cmmitted t playing water pl as a first chice sprt.

4 14U Natinal Champinships Players selected in ur 14U Mnday Night teams are expected t make themselves available fr selectin in teams entered in the 14U Natinal Club Champinships held arund Easter each year. City Beach usually enters three teams in the 14U Natinal Club Champinships; UWA / City Beach Bears the first team cmprising the mst skilful and cmmitted players f mainly brn 2003 players. UWA / City Beach Glds a develpment team cmprising mainly 2003 players and sme 2004 players. UWA / City Beach Blues a develpment team cmprising brn 2004 players. As a general rule the fllwing guidelines are adpted in team selectin: A brn 2004 player is nt selected in the Bears team unless that player is ranked a starting 6 player. Limited brn 2003 players are selected in the Glds team as this team is a develpment team with the purpse f being entered in the Natinal Champinship s t prvide a cmpetitive result the fllwing year. N brn 2005 players are selected in either team as they are taking the place f an lder player wh may be a player wh develps at a later stage. The 2016/17 seasn Natinal Champinships are held at Easter each year. This seasn the Natinal Champinships will be held in the fllwing lcatins:- 14U Bys Natinal Champinships Gld Cast 14U Girls Natinal Champinships Albury Wdnga This is bth a fun and rewarding experience fr all wh participate in these Champinships. UWA / City Beach WPC strngly encurages parents t attend this well rganised event t cheer n their child and t meet fellw parents fr a mst memrable event. Schl Hliday Camps Every seasn, UWA / City Beach WPC prvides three schl camps fr the 14U bys and girls: 3-7 Octber 2016, secnd week f the schl hlidays December 2016, prir t Christmas January 2016 These camps prvide high intensity training t expedite skills develpment. The by s camps are cnducted by the Men s Head Cach and triple Olympian, Andre Kvalenk with assistance frm the 14U By s Head Cach, Damian Kelly. The girl s camp will be cnducted by the Wmen s Head Cach with assistance frm the 14U Girl s Head Cach and duel Olympian, Paul Williams.

5 Swimming Squad Water pl is a swimming sprt and therefre requires a high level f swimming prficiency t becme a gd player. A slw swimmer will find it difficult t prgress int the elite water pl prgram utlined in this dcument. UWA / City Beach prvides its wn swimming squad fr bth bys and girls at significant cst discunt t ther cmparable squads in the western suburbs. The squad sessins are held at the UWA Pl, three mrnings every week, Mnday, Wednesday and Friday frm 5:30am 7:00am. The squad caches are:- Andrei Kvalenk Damian Kelly 14U Caches 2016/17 Seasn The club has appinted well credentialed and successful Head Caches fr the 14U divisin fr this cming seasn. They are:- 14U Bys Head Cach Damian Kelly, furth year appintment and has cached the 14U bys t three gld medals in the past three State League Champinships and a Silver & tw Gld Medals at the past three Natinal Champinships. Recgnised as an utstanding develpment cach with results that speak fr themselves. 14U Girls Head Cach Paul Williams, this is his first year appintment but having cmpeted at tw Olympics Paul has a pedigree that will benefit the UWA / City Beach 14U girls this cming seasn. Paul has been a lng time cach in the WA water pl fraternity and will bring vibrant energy t match the successful prgram already established by the club. Pathway Attached is a pathway shwing the prgressin f players thrugh the varius stages f junir teams culminating in selectin in the UWA Trpedes team a participant in the Natinal Water Pl League and frm there a chance t play in the Olympics.
