Firms are increasingly relying n business intelligence in the decisin prcess t stay cmpetitive in the market. The ability t understand the rle f analytics in identifying business prblems and seizing pprtunities, and further t apply data analytics t enhance business perfrmance has als becme a key asset fr managers. This curse prvides a cmprehensive intrductin t the cncepts, techniques and applicatins f business intelligence (BI). The class will equip students with a managerial verview f business intelligence, a basic understanding f statistics and ecnmics fundatins in BI, a general expsure t real wrld BI applicatins and trends, and hands-n practices f BI sftwares. The curse cnsists f a mix f lectures, case discussins, sftware tutrials, in-class assignments, invited guest sessins and a team prject. All class sessins will be interactive, requiring yu t actively participate in and cntribute t the class

Class participatin accunts fr 10% f yur final curse grade, and is used t reward students fr activating the in-class learning envirnment. Yu will receive at mst 7% if yu miss ne class, and at mst 4% if yu miss tw classes. Accrding t the schl plicy, yu will be withdrawn frm the curse if yu miss mre than tw classes fr reasns ther than illness. Participatin pints will be deducted if yu are late t the classrm. In-class Grup Assignments (32%) Yu are expected t finish a mini in-class grup assignment in each f the first fur classes, with each assignment accunting fr 8%. The assignments are directly relevant t the curse cntent and are designed t allw yu t link the lecture cntents with real-wrld practices and - 3 -

Grup Prject (30%) Yu are expected t finish a cmprehensive grup prject thrughut the curse. The purpse f this cmpnent is t develp yur skills in planning and managing a business intelligence prject. The prject will mst likely cver a wide range f cntents discussed in the lectures and the inclass grup assignments culd serve as the building blcks. Yu will need t present yur prject in the last class and yu need t turn in a final prpsal that utlines a strategic plan t utilize data available t help making better business decisins thrugh business intelligence, fr a real r hypthetical business client. The prpsal shuld cntain in detail the fllwing cmpnents: A. Backgrund Please describe the backgrund f the business client. Fr which unit f the business yu will help develp a business intelligence system, and fr what decisin prblems?!
