1 WILTSHIRE COLLEGE JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Head of Learning Technologies Salary Range: Up to 37,000 Location: Responsible to: Cross Campus Director of Teaching and Learning Introduction All employees of Wiltshire College are required to understand and contribute to the College s Key Objectives and Core Values. Key purpose of the Role (to be reviewed annually): 1. Ensure the use of Information Learning Technologies (ILT) throughout the curriculum by promoting the development and use of learning technologies and resources 2. Fully implement an agreed ILT strategy, reviewing where necessary, in conjunction with the IT strategy and the teaching and learning strategy 3. Ensure the effective use of e-learning to further enhance independent learning 4. Working in conjunction with the Quality manager and Director of Teaching and Learning, participate in the quality assurance of ILT across College Main Duties and Responsibilities Use of ILT 1. Lead the curriculum areas in extending and developing the use of ILT in teaching and learning and empower staff with the confidence to become ILT competent through necessary training and support 2. Line manage the Learning Technology team and lead on the development of learning resources working closely with the Director of Teaching and Learning 3. Develop the skills of the ILT aides and lead on their engagement and deployment within the curriculum teams and in planning and delivering staff training. 4. Be responsible for piloting and initiating new ideas and ensuring successful pilots are used across the curriculum 5. Develop good practice and awareness of e-safety and social media 6. Work in synergy with the learning coaches 7. Contribute to the professional development of all College staff in the effective use of learning technologies and resources ILT Strategy 1. Lead on the development, maintenance and implementation of an innovative ILT strategy in partnership with the Quality and ICT managers and the Director of Teaching and Learning 2
3 2. Work effectively with the Director of ICT to ensure appropriate technology is available to support learners in both formal teaching areas and informal learning areas. 3. Contribute to the development of new initiatives and new resources throughout the college including project bids that support ILT development. 4. Lead the development of a College e-portfolio and contribute to the development of the eilp to support learning. Use of VLE 1. Lead on the continuing development of e-learning and the virtual learning environment and the creation of associated materials 2. Ensure that learners are fully supported to learn both independently and within the classroom Quality Assurance 1. Maintain a quality service through the self-assessment process and to agree, set and monitor ILT Key Performance Indicators 2. Develop reports and present these as required to SMT & Governors 3. Setup and manage appropriate systems within student IT areas to ensure: - Computers to support learning are readily available and utilised effectively - Staff and students can locate and access appropriate resources - Resources are effectively logged and maintained at required levels Specific duties 1. Actively participate in the College staff development programme, contributing to the annual training plan. 2. Participate and chair appropriate cross College working groups and committees. Act as the College representative with appropriate external agencies and organisations. 3. Develop effective links with appropriate external agencies. Other 1. To participate in the College s appraisal process including PRP and to undertake and deliver appropriate staff development and training 2. To understand, comply with and promote the colleges Safeguarding policy and procedures 3. To understand, comply with and promote the colleges Diversity policies and procedures 4. To comply with and promote College Health and Safety policies and take appropriate responsibility to ensure the health and safety of self and others 3

Ensure compliance with and implementation of all College policies and procedures in respect of Equality and Diversity and pursue the achievement and integration of Equality and Diversity throughout all the College s activities 6. To participate in the duty management rota including evening and weekend cover arrangements 7. To engage in professional development and networking for the purpose of continuous professional development 8. Travelling and working away from normal base as may be required 9. To undertake such other reasonable duties as may be required from time to time and review this Job Description at least annually with the Director of Teaching and Learning, through the College appraisal scheme 4

An appropriate academic or professional qualification at degree level or equivalent (E) 2. Literacy and numeracy to level 2 (GCSE A-C) (E) 3. To hold a Management qualification Level 4 (D) 4. Be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications e.g. Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and other bespoke packages. Have the ability to set up various monitoring reports using IT applications. Evidence of devising innovative, high quality, safe, learnerfocused and cost efficient provision and delivery. (E) 4. Extensive experience of the e-learning software development lifecycle (requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment). (E) 6. Knowledge and understanding of leading edge training and development practice and elearning developments.(e) 7.
