1 JOB DESCRIPTION EDUCATION LIAISON OFFICER (FIXED TERM, MATERNITY COVER) THE ROYAL VETERINARY COLLEGE The Royal Veterinary College was founded in 1791 and is the oldest veterinary school in the English speaking world. It is currently also the largest veterinary school in the United Kingdom. A detailed history of the College and details of all facilities can be found by visiting the web site: THE POST GRADE: Grade 6 DEPARTMENT REPORTING TO: RESPONSIBLE FOR: LIAISES WITH: Academic Development Education Liaison Manager None Other staff in Academic Development; academic staff; administrative staff; student ambassadors and current students; alumni; staff in schools, colleges and Connexions offices including teachers & careers advisers; school pupils & their parents; prospective graduate entrants; HE and related staff in other institutions; external suppliers. OBJECTIVES OF POST: To contribute to the implementation of the College s marketing strategy and student recruitment plan. To continue to raise the College s profile with potential students and their influencers, and to work towards an increase in undergraduate applications from quality candidates, especially from targeted areas in the UK.

2 MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To assist in implementing a plan for increasing the level of enquiries and applications to the College from well-qualified prospective home students for undergraduate courses. This requires a detailed knowledge of the UK student recruitment market and an appreciation of the recruitment and marketing strategies being followed by the College's main competitors. 2. To identify and target potential schools and colleges with which to build and maintain new relationships/links, as part of the College s overall UK recruitment strategy. This will involve analysis and evaluation of applications data supplied by Academic Registry and other sources. 3. To contribute to the organisation and implementation of major promotional events including Open Days, RVC on Tour days, schools visits and other relevant events. 4. To represent the College at appropriate higher education promotional events, careers conventions, exhibitions and fairs throughout the UK. 5. To contribute to in-college promotional events aimed at teachers and careers staff such as teachers dinners. 6. To make presentations to students and their parents, to whole year and tutor groups, to promote veterinary medicine, science and nursing, particularly at the RVC. 7. To run training sessions on RVC course provision for teachers and careers advisers. 8. To be the main point of contact for schools and colleges requesting subject speakers, and to ensure these requests are met. 9. To contribute to training and information sessions for academic staff, student ambassadors and alumni participating in recruitment events. 10. To advise on recruitment and marketing issues. 11. To contribute to and where necessary co-ordinate production of Education Liaison publications and various other promotional materials. Additionally, where requested, to contribute to undergraduate prospectus and course brochures.

To maintain and develop the schools and undergraduate courses pages on the external RVC website, and material relating to educational liaison activity on the College Intranet; and to identify and implement recommendations for change with reference to the Education Liaison Manager. 13. To recruit and train current RVC students to give talks in their former schools/colleges. This involves recruiting and training suitable students, organising expenses payments and promoting the scheme. 14. To contribute to the development and organisation of the RVC Student Ambassador scheme. 15. To co-ordinate the production of new display stands and promotional paraphernalia for use at fairs, exhibitions and on-campus events within allocated budgets. This also involves maintaining current display stands and other promotional paraphernalia for use throughout the year. 16. To co-ordinate the use of and maintain RVC Skills Kits for use in promotional activity throughout the year. 17. To maintain and update a central bank of PowerPoint presentations for use by staff, student ambassadors and alumni. 18. To assist with general events such as graduation ceremonies. 19. Any other reasonable duties requested by the Education Liaison Manager or Head of Academic Development.

4 PERSON SPECIFICATION ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE Training and education Degree or equivalent CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing Experience Experience in a marketing environment Experience of education liaison work Experience in the secondary or higher education field Skills and knowledge Knowledge of higher education: markets, UCAS system, graduate employment Knowledge of the secondary education system Knowledge of the Post 16 qualification system Knowledge of current developments in student funding and finance Knowledge of marketing principles Skills with publishing packages such as Adobe Acrobat General administrative skills such as Microsoft Office, database and spreadsheet manipulation

5 Behavioural skills Excellent ability to communicate with a broad range of people Excellent presentation skills Excellent writing skills Able to deal tactfully with people at all levels Ability to handle multiple tasks Able to work to deadlines Able to organise/prioritise own workload Organised Methodical Team worker Self-confident / assertive Ability to relate to school pupils and to mature prospective students Special circumstances Able and willing to work unsocial hours and to travel within the UK and possibly beyond including overnight stays

6 CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Salary: Grade 6 26,535-34,813 per annum plus 2,323 per annum London Allowance This post is a maternity cover post for up to 12 months. This is a full-time post and normal hours of work are 35 hours per week, 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. This may be varied from time to time in consultation with your line manager according to the needs of the service. 30 days per annum annual leave plus Bank Holidays and Christmas closure period. Eligibility to join the College s USS pension scheme. The College has a no smoking policy and smoking is only permitted in certain designated areas of the College.
