1 SCHOOL OF HISTORY LEARNING OFFICER (80%FTE) EIGHTH IN THE EAST Ref: SC2752 The Eighth in the East is seeking to appoint a learning officer to lead the further development of our informal and formal education activities as part of an existing Heritage Lottery Fund project. The successful candidate will work with the team, in partnership with the University of East Anglia, to deliver a wide range of activities exploring the legacy of the Eighth US Army Air Force and its time in the East of England during World War Two. From family events in museums, informal learning projects with local youth groups, film school and theatre, to more formal education as part of the local history primary curriculum, the role will provide you with a great opportunity to share your existing skills and experience of delivering heritage learning to new audiences. The post holder will also work with the team to deliver a touring exhibition and final conference in You will need experience of delivering heritage activities to family and school audiences, an innovative approach to delivering history in new ways, excellent people management skills and an ability to work across different activities simultaneously. The next twelve months will see the project focus the delivery of our activities across Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Essex. It is envisaged that the Learning Officer will be based within this area and be available to travel across the region. 2 The person specification for this post is attached as Appendix B. GENERAL Salary Salary will be 24,775 to 30,434 per annum, pro rata, on Grade 6 on the single salary spine. The normal expectation is that starting salary will be at the minimum of the advertised salary scale. Starting date The post is available from 1 October 2015 on a part-time (80%FTE) basis for a fixed term period to 31 August Applicants should be aware that this post will not be entirely based at the UEA and could involve working from other locations. This will be discussed at interview. Terms and Conditions of appointment Full details of terms and conditions of employment for Secretarial & Clerical staff will be made available to the candidate to whom the appointment is offered. Annual Leave Entitlement There is an annual holiday entitlement of 25 days plus statutory (8 days) and customary (6 days) holidays, pro rata for part-time. Superannuation The post is superannuable under the Universities Superannuation Scheme. 5 APPENDIX A JOB DESCRIPTION REF: SC2752 Job Title: Learning Officer Eighth in the East Grade: Grade 6 School/Department: School of History Reporting to: Project Manager Job Function/Purpose: To implement and deliver the learning and events aspects of The Eighth in the East project across heritage sites in Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Essex, on behalf of New Heritage Solutions CIC, ensuring the project meets its milestones and delivers the required outcomes to time and budget, taking a hands-on approach to project delivery. Main duties include: 1. Develop, organise, deliver, market and evaluate the project s formal and informal learning programmes in liaison with appropriate partner staff, trustees and volunteers. 2. Work with the project team to ensure that the project outcomes are delivered to time and budget. 3. Organise educational and family event training for volunteers of partner museum as required to meet the outcomes of the project. 4. Work with the project team and teachers to support the further development and evaluation of digital learning resources to support the project s existing learning programmes. 5. Establish and maintain strong links with schools teams across the region to ensure the project meets the strategic aims for learning and achievement in local schools. 6. Work with the project team and partner organisations to develop and deliver informal learning activities outside of school times for families. 7. In cooperation with partner organisations, to develop, organise and participate in public events to promote the project and bring it to as wide an audience as possible. 8. To work with the project team to deliver a touring exhibition and final conference in 2016, including supporting education activities.

6 9. Assist with any other area of the project as directed by the Project Manager. 10. Assist with project reporting to the Heritage Lottery Fund at the required intervals to ensure full drawdown on the project funds and to ensure that effective advocacy is built into the project all stages. 11. Carry out general administrative duties as appropriate. 12. Ensure the appropriate health and safety standards are applied to all activities undertaken as part of the project. 13. Any other such duties as may be assigned by the Manager.

Planning skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines. Proven IT skills including word processing. Demonstrable communication skills in the English Language. Understanding of the current issues in museum education. Experience of working in partnership with other organisations, especially trustees and volunteers of museums and heritage organisations.
