2 Why study this programme? This new undergraduate degree in mathematics education provides a fast route into teaching in the secondary or further education sectors. Students completing this two-year accelerated degree will be well placed to progress onto a PGCE programme, either at the University of Greenwich or through the School Direct training initiative. You can therefore gain a degree and a teaching qualification in only three years at least one year less study than alternative routes to qualification. The programme contextualises subject knowledge in relation to practice through specific and applied courses. The core subject knowledge is delivered at Greenwich Campus by experts from the university s Department of Mathematical Sciences. The applied courses are delivered at Avery Hill Campus by the Department of Secondary Education, Lifelong Learning Teacher Education & Physical Education and Sport. Why study with us? The Department of Secondary Education, Lifelong Learning Teacher Education & Physical Education and Sport is part of the university s Faculty of Education & Health. We offer a broad range of interrelated programmes across a variety of subject specialisms. These are designed for people who wish to develop their teaching capacities and professionalisms to teach older children and young and mature adults. The department exemplifies the very best practice in teaching and learning through interactive lectures and seminars, electronic media, peer learning, tutorials and a wide variety of resources.

3 Our programmes of initial teacher education enable students to become professional, creative and reflective educators. We prepare our students to enter the teaching profession with enthusiasm and confidence. They are able to inspire, challenge and motivate their learners and to develop their own professional identity. We are proud of the pastoral care we provide, which supports our students in achieving their potential. Some students apply from unconventional backgrounds or have chosen to change career. We embrace the diversity and experience that these students can bring to our programmes. Partnership working is at the core of our ethos and values. This is because we recognise teaching and learning as a collaborative social process. Therefore, we are committed to pursuing collaborative teaching and learning partnerships in and between educational settings. The department is located on our Avery Hill Campus, which is set in pleasant parkland in south-east London.
