Alwys unplug the mhine from the eletril outlet when removing overs, luriting, or when mking ny other user serviing djustments mentioned in the instrution mnul. 6. This sewing mhine is not intended for use y young hildren or infirm persons without supervision. (For Austrli nd New Zelnd only) 7. Young hildren should e supervised to ensure tht they do not ply with this mhine. 8. If the Light unit is dmged, it must e repled y uthorized deler. 3 FOR USERS IN THE UK, EIRE, MALTA AND CYPRUS ONLY If this mhine is fitted with three-pin non-rewirele BS plug then plese red the following. IMPORTANT If the ville soket outlet is not suitle for the plug supplied with this equipment, it should e ut off nd n pproprite three-pin plug fitted. With lterntive plugs n pproved fuse must e fitted in the plug. NOTE The plug served from the min led must e destroyed s plug with red flexile ords is hzrdous if engged in live soket outlet. Atth the pproprite presser foot for the seleted stithing. f Feed dogs The feed dogs feed the fri in the sewing diretion. g Quik-set oin (for s equipped with the quikset oin) You n strt sewing without pulling up the oin thred. h Boin over Open the oin over to set the oin. i Needle plte The needle plte is mrked with guides for sewing stright sems. j Needle r thred guide Pss the upper thred through the needle r thred guide. k Needle lmp srew Use the needle lmp srew to hold the needle in ple. Opertion uttons The opertion uttons help you to esily perform vrious si sewing mhine opertions. The opertion uttons differ depending on the sewing mhine. Presser foot lever Rise nd lower the presser foot lever to rise nd lower the presser foot. Reverse/reinforement stith utton Press the reverse/reinforement stith utton to sew reverse stithes. Reverse stithes re sewn y keeping the utton pressed down to sew in the opposite diretion. For detils, refer to Sewing reinforement stithes (pge 29). Buttons provided on some s Strt/stop utton (for s equipped with the strt/stop utton) Press the strt/stop utton to strt or stop sewing. The mhine sews t slow speed t the eginning of sewing while the utton is depressed. When sewing is stopped, the needle is lowered in the fri. For detils, refer to Strting to sew (pge 28). d Needle position utton (for s equipped with the needle position utton) Press the needle position utton to rise or lower the needle. Pressing the utton twie sews one stith. e Sewing speed ontroller (for s equipped with the sewing speed ontroller) Slide the sewing speed ontroller to djust the sewing speed. 6

9 Opertion pnel The opertion pnel, loted on the front of the sewing mhine, llows you to selet stith nd speify how the stith will e sewn. Flt ed tthment The essories re stored in omprtment inside the flt ed tthment. Slide the flt ed tthment to the left to open it. LCD (Liquid rystl disply) The seleted stith (), presser foot tht should e used (2), stith length in millimeters (3), nd stith width in millimeters (4) re displyed. Stith seletion keys Press the stith seletion keys, nd then selet the numer for the stith tht you wish to use. For detils, refer to Seleting stithing (pge 27). Stith length djustment key Press this key to djust the stith length. (Press the side to redue the stith length; press the + side to inrese the stith length.) d Stith width djustment key Press this key to djust the stith width. (Press the side to redue the stith width; press the + side to inrese the stith width.) Flt ed tthment Storge omprtment te Put the essories in the g, nd then store the g inside the omprtment. 11 USING YOUR SEWING MACHINE Power supply preutions Be sure to oserve the following preutions onerning the power supply. WARNING Use only regulr household eletriity for the power soure. Using other power soures my result in fire, eletri shok, or dmge to the mhine. Turn off the min power nd remove the plug in the following irumstnes: When you re wy from the mhine After using the mhine When the power fils during use When the mhine does not operte orretly due to d onnetion or disonnetion During eletril storms Do not use extension ords or multi-plug dpters with mny other pplines plugged in to them. Fire or eletri shok my result. Do not touh the plug with wet hnds. Eletri shok my result. When unplugging the mhine, lwys turn off the min power first. Alwys grsp the plug to remove it from the outlet. Pulling on the ord my dmge the ord, or led to fire or eletri shok. Do not llow the power ord to e ut, dmged, modified, forefully ent, pulled, twisted, or undled. Do not ple hevy ojets on the ord. Do not sujet the ord to het. These things my dmge the ord nd use fire or eletri shok. If the ord or plug is dmged, tke the mhine to your uthorized deler for repirs efore ontinuing use. Unplug the power ord if the mhine is not to e used for long period of time. Otherwise fire my result. Power supply Insert the plug into wll outlet. Min power swith Jk/soket onnetor Set the min power swith to I. The sewing lmp omes on when the mhine is turned on. To turn off the mhine, set the min power swith to. The sewing lmp goes off when the mhine is turned off. te If power outge ours while the sewing mhine is eing operted, turn off the sewing mhine nd unplug the power supply ord. When restrting the sewing mhine, follow the neessry proedure to orretly operte the mhine. (For U.S.A. only) This ppline hs polrized plug (one lde wider thn the other). To redue the risk of eletri shok, this plug is intended to fit in polrized outlet only one wy. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, ontt qulified eletriin to instll the proper outlet. Do not modify the plug in ny wy. 9

12 KNOWING YOUR SEWING MACHINE Foot ontroller Insert the foot ontroller plug into its jk/soket on the rer side of the sewing mhine. Sewing speed ontroller (for s equipped with the strt/stop utton) Slide the sewing speed ontroller to the left or right to selet the desired sewing speed. Slide the sewing speed ontroller to the left to sew t slower speed, or slide the speed ontroller to the right to sew t fster speed. Foot ontroller jk/soket When onneting the foot ontroller, e sure to turn off the sewing mhine in order to prevent the mhine from identlly eing strted. When you press the foot ontroller down lightly, the mhine will run t low speed. When you press hrder, the mhine s speed will inrese. When you tke your foot off the foot ontroller, the mhine will stop. Slower Sewing speed ontroller The speed set using the sewing speed ontroller is the foot ontroller s mximum sewing speed. Chnging the needle stop position rmlly, the sewing mhine is set to leve the needle in the fri when sewing is stopped. Insted, the mhine n e set to leve the needle rised when sewing is stopped. Turn off the sewing mhine. You should mke sure tht nothing is pled on the foot ontroller when the mhine is not in use. Fster Do not llow piees of loth nd dust to uild up on the foot ontroller. Doing so ould use fire or n eletri shok. Hold down the side of (stith seletion key) on the left nd turn on the sewing mhine. After turning on the sewing mhine, relese the side of (stith seletion key). te When the foot ontroller is plugged in, the strt/stop utton nnot e used to strt or stop sewing (only for s equipped with the strt/stop utton). The needle stop position hnges to the rised position. Memo Perform the sme opertion to hnge the needle stop position to the lowered position. 0

13 THREADING THE MACHINE Winding the oin This setion desries how to wind the thred onto the oin. For detils on the fst oin winding, see pge 3. Pre-tension disk Boin winder shft Boin Only use oins (prt ode: SA56, SFB: XA5539-5) tht hve een designed for this sewing mhine. Using other oins my use dmge to the mhine. We designed the oin tht omes with this mhine. If you use oins from other s, the mhine will not work properly. Only use the oin tht omes with this mhine or oins of the sme type (prt ode: SA56, SFB: XA5539-5). Atul size.5 mm (7/6 inh) This Other s Pull up the spool pin s fr s possile, nd then put spool of thred on this pin. Pss the thred round the pre-tension disk. d Put the oin onto the oin winder shft nd slide the oin winder shft to the right. Turn the oin lokwise, y hnd, until the spring on the shft slides into the groove of the oin. If the spool of thred is not in the right ple, the thred my tngle on the spool pin. Pss the end of the thred through the hole on the oin from the inside of the oin. 2 Spring on the shft Groove of the oin Turn on the sewing mhine. e

14 KNOWING YOUR SEWING MACHINE While holding the end of the thred, gently f press the foot ontroller or press (strt/ stop utton) (for s equipped with the strt/stop utton) to wind the thred round the oin few times. Then stop the mhine. Press the foot ontroller or press (strt/ i stop utton) (for s equipped with the strt/stop utton) to strt. te If the sewing mhine is to e operted using the foot ontroller, onnet the foot ontroller efore turning on the mhine. When the foot ontroller is plugged in, the strt/stop utton nnot e used to strt or stop sewing (only for s equipped with the strt/stop utton). When the oin seems full nd egins j spinning slowly, tke your foot off the foot ontroller or press (strt/stop utton) (for s equipped with the strt/stop utton). k l Cut the thred, slide the oin winder shft to the left nd remove the oin. Slide the sewing speed ontroller k to its originl position (for s equipped with the sewing speed ontroller). Trim the exess thred ove the oin. g Mke sure you follow the instrutions refully. If you do not ut the thred ompletely, nd the oin is wound, when the thred runs low it my tngle round the oin nd use the needle to rek. Memo When the sewing mhine is strted or the hndwheel is turned fter winding the thred round the oin, the mhine will mke liking sound; this is not mlfuntion. The needle r does not move when you slide the oin winding shft to the right. t winding the oin properly my use the thred tension to loosen, nd my rek the needle. Slide the sewing speed ontroller to the right h (to set the speed to fst). (For s equipped with the sewing speed ontroller.) 2 Wound evenly Wound poorly Sewing speed ontroller 2

15 For s equipped with the fst oin winding system Follow steps through 2 of the proedure in Winding the oin to pss the thred round the pre-tension disk (pge ). Ple the oin on the oin winder shft so tht the spring on the shft fits into the noth in the oin. th Boin winder shft spring Slide the oin winder shft to the right. d e While holding the thred tht wrps round the pre-tension disk with your left hnd, use your right hnd to wind the free end of the thred lokwise round the oin five or six times. Pull the thred to the right nd pss it through the slit in the oin winder set. Slit in oin winder set (with uilt-in utter) The thred is ut to suitle length. Be sure to ut the thred s desried. If the oin is wound without utting the thred using the utter uilt into the slit in the oin winder set, the thred my eome tngled in the oin or the needle my end or rek when the oin thred strts to run out. f Slide the sewing speed ontroller to the right (to set the speed to fst) (for s equipped with the sewing speed ontroller). Sewing speed ontroller Turn on the sewing mhine. g Press the foot ontroller or press (strt/ h stop utton) (for s equipped with the strt/stop utton) to strt. i j k te If the sewing mhine is to e operted using the foot ontroller, onnet the foot ontroller efore turning on the mhine. When the foot ontroller is plugged in, the strt/stop utton nnot e used to strt or stop sewing (only for s equipped with the strt/stop utton). When the oin egins spinning slowly, tke your foot off the foot ontroller or press (strt/stop utton) (for s equipped with the strt/stop utton). Cut the thred, slide the oin winder shft to the left nd remove the oin. The needle r does not move when you slide the oin winding shft to the right. Lower threding Instll the oin wound with thred. For more detils on quik-set oin, see pge 5. Slide the utton nd open the over. 2 Cover Slide utton Put the oin in so the thred omes out in the diretion shown y the rrow. Winding the oin improperly my use the thred tension to loosen, reking the needle nd resulting in injury. Only use oins tht were designed to e used with this mhine. 2 Wound evenly Wound poorly The oin ws designed speifilly for this sewing mhine. If oins from other s re used, the mhine will not operte orretly. Use only the enlosed oin or oins of the sme type (prt ode: SA56, SFB: XA5539-5). Atul size Mke sure you set the oin so the thred unrolls in the right diretion. If the thred unrolls in the wrong diretion, it my use the thred tension to e inorret or rek the needle. d Hold the end of the thred, push the oin down with your finger, nd then pss the thred through the slit, s shown. Mke sure tht the thred is orretly inserted through the tension-djusting spring of the oin se. If it is not inserted, reinsert the thred..5 mm (7/6 inh) This Other s Mke sure you turn the power off while threding the mhine. If you identlly step on the foot ontroller nd the mhine strts to sew, you ould e injured. Tension-djusting spring Rise the needle to its highest position y turning the hndwheel towrd you (ounterlokwise) or press (needle position utton) (for s equipped with the needle position utton), nd rise the presser foot lever. e Reple the oin over. Put the left t in ple (see rrow ), nd then press lightly on 4

17 the right side (see rrow ) until the over liks into ple. Mke sure tht the thred is orretly inserted through the tension-djusting spring of the oin se. If it is not inserted, reinsert the thred. Reple the over so tht the end of the thred omes out from the left side of the over (s shown y the line in the digrm). For s equipped with the quik-set oin Rise the needle to its highest position y turning the hndwheel towrd you (ounterlokwise) or press (needle position utton) (for s equipped with the needle position utton), nd rise the presser foot lever. Slide the utton nd open the over. 2 Tension-djusting spring Memo The order tht the oin thred should e pssed through the oin se is indited y mrks round the oin se. Be sure to thred the mhine s indited. Cover Slide utton Put the oin in, feed the end of the thred through the slit, nd then pull the thred to ut it. d Reple the oin over. Put the left t in ple (see rrow ), nd then press lightly on the right side (see rrow ) until the over liks into ple. Only use oins tht were designed to e used with this mhine. Mke sure you set the oin so the thred unrolls in the right diretion. If the thred unrolls in the wrong diretion, it my use the thred tension to e inorret or rek the needle. Memo You n egin sewing immeditely without drwing up the oin thred. If you wnt to drw up the oin thred efore you strt to sew, follow to the proedure in Drwing up the lower thred (pge 9). Cutter 5

18 KNOWING YOUR SEWING MACHINE Upper threding Set the upper thred nd thred the needle. For detils on the needle threder, see pge 7. Spool pin Thred guide Mrk on the hndwheel Mke sure you thred the mhine properly. Otherwise, the thred ould tngle nd rek the needle. Rise the presser foot using the presser foot lever. Rise the needle y turning the hndwheel towrd you (ounterlokwise) so tht the mrk on the wheel points up, or press (needle position utton) (for s equipped with the needle position utton) one or twie to rise the needle. Presser foot lever or Mrk Needle position utton If the needle is not orretly rised, the sewing mhine n not e threded. Be sure to turn the hndwheel so tht the mrk on the wheel points up efore threding the sewing mhine. 6

19 d e f Pull up the spool pin s fr s possile, nd then put spool of thred on this pin. If the spool of thred is in the wrong ple, or is set inorretly, the thred my tngle on the spool pin nd use the needle to rek. Feed the upper thred s shown in the figure on the previous pge. Other needles ould rek, nd dmge the mhine. Do not sew with ent needles. The needle ould rek nd injure you. You n not use the needle threder to thred the twin needle. 29 Seleting stithing Using the stith seletion keys, selet the desired stith. When the sewing mhine is turned on, the stright stith ( left needle position) is seleted. Turn on the sewing mhine. Press the + or side of (stith length djustment key) to inrese or redue the stith length. 2 Press (stith seletion keys). The numer of the seleted stith is displyed. Press the + or side of to inrese or redue the numer y one. Pressing on the right hnges the digit on the right nd pressing on the left hnges the digit on the left. Stith length djustment key Short Long Press the + or side of (stith width djustment key) to inrese or redue the stith width. The stith is seleted. Atth the presser foot. d te The presser foot to e used is indited y the letter (G, A, J, N, or R) elow to the right of the stith numer. If neessry, djust the stith length nd width. Stith width djustment key Nrrow Wide te When the stith length or stith width is hnged from the stndrd setting, round or disppers from the LCD. The mhine n e set so tht the needle will sty up when sewing is stopped. Sewing reinforement stithes When sewing stithes other thn stright or zigzg stithes tht re seured with reverse stithing, pressing (reverse/reinforement stith utton) sews reinforement stithes, 3 to 5 stithes on top of eh other. Thred tension The thred tension will ffet the qulity of your stithes. You my need to djust it when you hnge fri or thred. Memo We reommend tht you do test smple on srp of fri efore you strt to sew. For the tril sewing, use piee of fri nd thred tht re the sme s those used for your projet, nd hek the thred tension nd stith length nd width. Sine the results differ depending on the type of stithing nd the numer of lyers of fri sewn, perform the tril sewing under the sme onditions tht will e used with your projet. Chnging the sewing diretion When the stithing rehes orner, stop the sewing mhine. Leve the needle lowered (in the fri). If the needle ws rised, lower the needle either y turning the hndwheel towrd you (ounterlokwise) or y pressing (needle position utton) one (for s equipped with the needle position utton). When using the twin needle, e sure to rise the needle efore hnging the sewing diretion. If the fri is turned while the needle is lowered, the needle my end or rek. Lower the presser foot lever nd ontinue sewing. Sewing urves Stop sewing, nd then slightly hnge the sewing diretion to sew round the urve. When sewing long urve while using zigzg stith, selet shorter stith length in order to otin finer stith.
