Overview of Setup These re the steps in printer instlltion. Instll the Softwre nd the Eletroni Mnuls (P.12) The Mnuls Supplied with This Printer Store Aessories in the Poket (P.19) Even if you do not use the printer driver, e sure to instll Medi Configurtion Tool from the provided User Softwre CD-ROM. With Medi Configurtion Tool, the pper types tht re ville in your re n e registered to the printer. For instrutions on instlltion, refer to "Instll the Softwre nd the Eletroni Mnuls" on pge 12. (In Windows, selet Instll Individul Softwre in the Setup Menu window to instll Medi Configurtion Tool only.) For more onsistent olors, we reommend performing olor lirtion fter setup. Detils for eh step re given in this Setup Guide. Simply follow the instrutions to instll the printer. If n error messge is displyed during setup or other prolems our, refer to "Responding to Messges. " There re two wys to instll the printer: tipping instlltion (instlltion y four people) nd lifting instlltion (instlltion y six people). Tipping instlltion (instlltion y four people) uses severl speil prts, inluding the piees tthed to Stnd sters to prevent slippge, the lk elts round the printer, nd pkging mteril. Do not remove or ut these prts. Otherwise, Tipping instlltion (instlltion y four people) is no longer possile. Be sure to ontt Cnon deler efore trnsferring the printer to new lotion. Pkge the printer following the proedure of Lifting instlltion nd do not perform Tipping instlltion. After instlling the printer s shown in this Setup Guide, refer to the mnuls for instrutions on opertion nd mintenne. (ipfxxxx indites the printer model.) M OS X : Clik the ipf Support ion in the Dok (Lunhpd in OS X v10. nd lter). Some items re inluded with the printer ut not desried in this mnul. Keep these items in sfe ple fter setup euse they re used in vrious printing pplitions. For instrutions on the inluded items not desried in this mnul, refer to the User's Guide. When reloting the printer, follow steps desried in "Assemle the Stnd" to "Remove the Pkging Mteril" in reverse order to repkge the printer. 3 Assemle the Stnd Cution Stnd ssemly requires two or more people working on flt floor. Assemling the Stnd lone my use injury or identl ending of the Stnd. Stnd sters re loked t the time of ftory shipment. Do not relese the lok until the Stnd hs een fully ssemled. In ddition, relese the lok efore moving the Stnd. Moving the Stnd while the sters re loked my srth the floor or use injury. Do not remove the piees tthed to the sters to prevent slippge efore the printer is mounted on the Stnd. Removing the piees my use the Stnd to slip, whih my dmge the printer or end the Stnd. If the stnd slips, the floor my e srthed or injury my e used. 1 Position the Left Stnd Leg nd Right Stnd Leg so tht the mrkings on the ottom re right-side up nd n e red. Insert the left side of the Bottom Stnd Sty into the side slot () of the Left Stnd Leg, nd insert the right side of the Bottom Stnd Sty into the side slot () of the Right Stnd Leg. 2 Seure the Bottom Stnd Sty to the Left Stnd Leg nd Right Stnd Leg using four M4 hex srews on eh side y the Allen Wrenh. Hold one end of the Stnd while prtner Insert the left end of the Top Stnd Sty into holds the other end. At the sme time, the side hole () on the Left Stnd Leg, nd rotte oth ends to stnd the Stnd upright. insert the right end of the Top Stnd Sty into the side hole () on the Right Stnd Leg, pushing the sty in ompletely. Seure the Top Stnd Sty to the Left Stnd Leg nd Right Stnd Leg using the four M8 hex olts on eh side y the Wrenh. Rotte oth ends of the Stnd simultneously when stnding the Stnd upright. Rotting only one side efore the other my end the Stnd nd use prolems in ssemly. Insert the left end of the Top Stnd Sty first. The right end n only e pushed in to restrited position. 6 Atth the Leg Cover to the Left Stnd Leg nd Right Stnd Leg. Insert the protrusion () of the Leg Cover into the groove () of the Top Stnd Sty. Insert the protrusion () of the Leg Cover into the groove (d) of the Bottom Stnd Sty. Seure the Leg Cover to the Left Stnd Leg nd Right Stnd Leg using one M4 hex srew on eh side. Cution On Tipping instlltion, do not remove the piees tthed to the Stnd sters to prevent slippge yet. d d Instll the printer There re two wys to instll the printer. Follow either proedure, depending on the numer of people for instlling the printer. Tipping Instlltion: Requires four people Follow the proedure strting t step 1 on pge 3. Lifting Instlltion: Requires six people Follow the proedure strting t step 12 on pge 4. Tipping instlltion: In the se of instlltion y four people Remove 1 printer the pkging mteril for use in put the instlltion mteril ginst from the the Stnd pllet ox on oth nd 2 ends, ehind the printer. Insert the hnds in the holes on oth ends of the front surfe of the ottom rdord sheet. While supporting the printer, tip the printer kwrd 90 degrees to rest the printer on the pkging mteril used in printer instlltion. Tipping instlltion uses severl speil prts, inluding the piees tthed to Stnd sters to prevent slippge, the lk elts round the printer, nd pkging mteril. Do not remove or ut these prts. Otherwise, Tipping instlltion is no longer possile. 3

4 Do not ut the lk elts round the printer until step 11. When the lk elts re ut, Tipping instlltion is no longer possile. 3 Remove the Smple Pper. 4 Turn the joints to pull out of the ottom rdord sheet on top of the pllet, nd then remove the rdord stnd holder. 5 Remove the pkging mteril overing the setions of the printer where the Stnd will e tthed. 6 Use sissors to ut openings in the plsti overing s shown. Pull the overing prt with oth hnds to expose the setions of the printer where the Stnd will e tthed. Remove the ottom rdord sheet nd the pllet. Assemle the rdord stnd holder s shown nd put the holder to the ottom side of the printer. Let the side with round holes () fe the printer. Rest the Stnd on its side on the Bend the front flp of the rdord stnd rdord stnd holder. Adjusting the holder forwrd s shown. Collpse the positions for tthment to the printer, use n Allen Wrenh to tighten four M4 srews on oth sides, tthing the stnd seurely to the printer. holder nd remove the holder from under the stnd. Ple the ottom sheet () under the printer. Hve four people hold the printer nd Stnd on oth ends, two people on eh end. As you support the printer, tip it forwrd, pivoting it on the piees of the Stnd to prevent it from slipping (). Be reful to prevent the Stnd from slipping. To void srthing the floor, e sure to ple the ottom sheet on the floor. 11 Remove the lk elts () from the printer. Remove the pkging mteril (), the ox () with the Rewind Spool inside, the plsti overing (d), nd the piees (e) tthed to sters to prevent slippge. Cution Lifting instlltion: In the se of instlltion y six people Remove the lk elts from round the printer nd remove the top pkging mteril. When utting the lk elts, e reful not to let the elts fly wy from the printer. Remove the tpe on the piees to prevent slippge y pulling the tpe ross the piees from ove when peeling off. While two people hold the rrying hndles under the printer on one end nd lift the printer little, hve third person remove the pkging mteril nd the plsti overing from under the printer. After the pkging mteril hs een removed, lower the printer. 14 d e Remove the pkging mteril nd the plsti overing from the other side of the printer the sme wy. e 4

5 OFF ON With three people holding the rrying hndles under the printer on oth ends, lift the printer. Cution The weight of the min unit lone is pproximtely 164 kg (361.6 l). Moving the printer requires t lest six people, three on either side. Be reful to void k strin nd other injuries. When moving the printer, firmly grsp the rrying hndles () under eh side. Holding the printer t other positions is dngerous nd use injury nd dmge if the printer is dropped. Align the tringles on the k of the printer nd Stnd when setting the printer on the Stnd. Seure the printer nd Stnd firmly together using four M4 hex srews on eh side y the Allen Wrenh. Atth the Medi Tke-up Unit Firmly seure the Left Fstener for Medi Tke-up Unit nd 1 2 Right Fstener for Medi Tke-up Unit to the front () nd k () of the Top Stnd Sty using four M4 hex srews on eh side y the Allen Wrenh. Hook up the hole () of the Left Medi Tke-up Unit with the protrusion () of the Left Fstener for Medi Tke-up Unit, nd hook up the hole () of the Right Medi Tke-up Unit with the protrusion (d) of the Right Fstener for Medi Tke-up Unit. Seure the Medi Tke-up Units firmly y using three M4 hex srews (e) on eh side y the Allen Wrenh in the sequene shown. d Pull up the ord of the Medi Tke-up 3 Sensor () through the hole () of the Right Stnd Leg. Put the Medi Tke-up 4 Sensor under the Bottom Stnd Sty () on the right. With the Medi Tke-up Sensor ginst the underside of the Bottom Stnd Sty nd the Right Stnd Leg, insert M4 hex srews in the three holes () nd slide the srews out of the wy towrd the nrrow end of the protruding holes. Insert M4 hex srews in the smll holes () s well. Use the Allen wrenh to tighten ll five M4 hex srews firmly in the order shown, from (2) to (6). e e The Medi Tke-up Sensor remins oneled in the Bottom Stnd Sty. Plug the Medi Tke-up Sensor ord 5 6 firmly nd fully into the Right Medi Tkeup Unit to onnet it. Atth the ord holders () to the holes of the Top Stnd Sty. Bring the power ord of the Right Medi Tke-up Unit to the k of the printer nd pss the ord through the ord holders. After pssing the ord ehind the holders, plug the ord into the Power Supply Connetor on the k of the printer. Lod the left side of the Rewind Spool on the Medi Tke-up Unit so tht the ger () on the right side of the Rewind Spool meshes with the ger () of the Right Medi Tke-up Unit. 5

6 Atth the Aessory Poket to the Left Stnd Leg. 8 9 Use the Allen Wrenh to seurely ffix the M4 Hex Srews. Atth the Output Stker (BU-01 option) Insert the Bsket Arm R in the hole () After inserting the Bsket Arm L in the on the right side of the Bottom Stnd left side of the middle Bsket Rod, push Sty. Insert the right side () of the middle Bsket Rod in the hole () of the Bsket Arm R. in the rm fully into the hole on the left side of the Bottom Stnd Sty. Use one M4 hex srew on the left nd right sides to firmly seure the Bsket Arm R nd Bsket Arm L. While squeezing the Rod Holder in the position indited () with oth hnds, push the holder into the Rod Holder Adpter () until the holder liks into ple. Atth the other Rod Holder to the other Rod Holder Adpter the sme wy. Insert the Rod Holder Adpter into eh 4 hole on the k of eh Stnd Leg. 5 Spred out the Output Stker with white tg () of the Bsket Cloth t the front on the right side nd the lk ord () in the k. Insert the Bsket Rod () (in the middle of the Bsket Cloth ) in the hole (d) on the ottom of the Rod Holder, nd thred the lk ord from the k through the hook (e) on the top of the Rod Holder. e e d d Chek how the Bsket Cloth is rrnged. Atth the Bsket Rod (t the front of 6 (1) Pull out the Bsket Cloth with the 8 the Output Stker ) to the tips () of the edge fing out. Bringing the edge of the Bsket Cloth inside my prevent pper ejetion. (2) If the Bsket Cloth is inside s shown, pull the loth outside. Chek the loth on eh side. Bsket Arm L nd Bsket Arm R. Pull the Bsket Rod () (t the front of the Output Stker) ll the wy out nd lift the rod to lok the rod in ple. 6

7 Remove the Pkging Mteril Remove the tpe nd other pkging 1 mteril used to seure the printer. 2 Open the Top Cover. 3 Use the Allen Wrenh to loosen the Belt Stopper srew () nd remove the srew from the Belt Stopper. Unsrew the Belt Stopper to the left nd remove the stopper. Pull the rrige sper () in the diretion of the rrow to remove it. The Belt Stopper, srew, rrige sper, nd Allen Wrenh re needed when moving the printer to nother lotion lter. Keep the Belt Stopper, srew, rrige sper, nd Allen Wrenh whih hve een removed. Negleting to tth the Belt Stopper nd rrige sper my use dmge to the printer when moving the printer to nother lotion. After opening the Top Cover, Clening Brush is stored on the right. Tke out the rush when lening inside the Top Cover. Lift the Ejetion Guide. Atth the six Ejetion Support s () on 4 5 the k of the Ejetion Guide. 6 Close the Ejetion Guide nd Top Cover. When lowering the Ejetion Guide (), lower it slowly. If you lower it vigorously, the Ejetion Supports () my touh the roll pper nd srth the printing surfe. 8 Plug the power ord into the Power Supply Connetor on the k of the printer. 9 Plug the power ord into the outlet.

8 BK B BK BK G BK B B BK Mount the Ink Tnks Mount the eight ink tnks. 1 Press the Power utton to turn on the printer. 2 When the following sreen ppers, use the nd keys to selet lnguge nd press OK. 3 Selet your lol time zone nd press OK. Open the ink tnk overs s instruted. 5 Rise the stopper () of the ink tnk lok lever for the olor you re mounting. After rising the ink tnk lok lever s fr s possile, pull it forwrd. 6 Shke eh ink tnk gently to 8 times efore opening its pouh. R G R G B R G Filure to shke the ink tnks my result in redued print qulity euse ink ingredients hve settled on the ottom of the tnk. Press down on the ink tnk lok lever until it loks. Mke sure the ink tnk lok lever stys in the loked position. Open the pouh nd remove the ink tnk. 8 Orient the ink tnks nd mount them in the holders with ink holes down s shown in the figure. 9 After rising the ink tnk lok lever s fr s possile, press it k down until it liks into ple. B R G R G B Never touh the ink holes or metl ontts. Touhing these prts my use stins, dmge the ink tnk, nd ffet print qulity. Avoid dropping the ink tnk fter removing it from the pouh. Otherwise, ink my lek nd use stins. Do not remove ink tnks to shke them fter they hve een mounted. Doing so my use ink to spill. An ink tnk nnot e mounted in the holder if it is not oriented orretly for the olor. Do not try to fore n ink tnk into the holder if it does not go in normlly. Chek the olor indited on the lel ffixed to the ink tnk lok lever nd the ink tnk orienttion, nd then try mounting the tnk into the holder gin. 8

9 BK BK 10 Mke sure the ink lmp lights red. 11 Chek tht the ink lmp is light, nd then push the ink tnk more strongly until is touhes the se. 12 Repet steps 5 to 11 to mount eh of the ink tnks. Close the ink tnk overs. R G B R G B If the ink lmp does not light, repet steps 5, 8, nd 9. Instll the Printheds Instll oth printheds. 1 When the disply sreen shows Open Upper Cover, open the top over. 2 Lift the rrige over to open it fully. 3 Pull the printhed fixer lever forwrd ll the wy to open it ompletely. Instrutions on printhed instlltion re shown on the disply sreen. 4 Lift the printhed fixer over to open it fully. 5 Hold the printhed y the grips () s you remove it from the pouh. 6 Remove the ornge protetive prt (). Remove the other ornge protetive prt () while holding the grip ().. Never touh the prts overed y the protetive prts. Doing so my dmge the printhed nd ffet printing qulity. The printhed ontins ink, so e reful not to spill it one the protetive prts re removed. Do not retth the protetive prts fter removing them. Dispose of these mterils ording to lol regultions. Insert the printhed into the rrige () with the ink holes () up nd fing the front of the printer s shown in the figure. Crefully push the printhed firmly into the rrige (), ensuring tht the prts tht were overed y the protetive prts do not touh the rrige (). 8 Pull the printhed fixer over down towrd the front to lok the printhed in ple. 9 Push the printhed fixer lever ll the wy k. 9

10 10 Repet steps 3 to 9 to instll the seond printhed set. 11 Pull the rrige over forwrd. 12 Close the top over. Lod Pper to Adjust the Printheds Lod the provided smple pper nd djust the Printheds. 1 Selet type of pper for printhed dj. is shown on the disply sreen. Use the nd keys to selet Roll Pper nd then press OK. 2 Open the top over nd rise the ejetion guide. 3 Remove the roll holder from the printer. 4 Rise the holder stopper lever () from the shft side to unlok the stopper. While holding the holder stopper in the position in the figure indited y (), remove the holder stopper from the roll holder. 5 With the leding edge of the roll of pper towrds the front s shown in the figure, insert the roll holder from the right side of the roll of pper. Insert the roll holder ll the wy until the pper is touhing the flnge () of the roll holder. We reommend wering len otton gloves when hndling rolls of pper to protet the printle surfe. Insert the roll holder s fr s it will go so there is no gp etween the pper nd the roll holder flnge. A gp n use the pper to feed irregulrly. Do not ple roll of pper on desk or other flt surfe where it my roll off. A flling pper roll retes the risk of personl injury. Do not llow the roll holder to e sujeted to strong impt when loding roll of pper. Strong impt n dmge the roll holder. 6 As shown in the figure, slide the holder stopper onto the roll holder from the left. Holding the holder stopper t the position in the figure mrked (), press until the holder stopper flnge () is seurely in ontt with the pper. Lower the holder stopper lever () to the shft side to lok it. With the side of the roll holder with the white ger fing the sme diretion s the roll holder slot with the white ger, set the roll holder shft () into the left nd right guide grooves () of the roll holder slots. Allow the shft to slide into the guides s fr s possile. Insert the roll holder s fr s it will go so there is no gp etween the pper nd the roll holder flnge. A gp n use the pper to feed irregulrly. Remove ll wrinkles nd urls from the pper, if ny, efore loding it. When setting the shft into the guides, tke re so the roll of pper does not fll nd reted the risk of personl injury. Be reful to not pinh your fingers etween the shft of the roll holder shft () nd the guide grooves () when loding roll of pper. 10

11 8 Pull out the pper so it is even on oth sides nd insert it into the feed slot (), nd feed it until it ontts the pper retiner (). The pper feeds utomtilly until it ontts the pper retiner. Tke re to void soiling the printing surfe when removing rolls of pper. A soiled printing surfe n ffet printing qulity. Remove ll wrinkles nd urls from the pper, if ny, efore loding it. When loding pper, mke sure there is no gp etween the right side of the roll nd the roll holder. 9 Lower the ejetion guide. Lower the ejetion guide refully, tking re tht the ejetion supports () do not touh the pper. 10 While holding the leding edge of the pper roll, rise the relese lever. 11 Holding the leding edge of the pper with oth hnds, gently pull it to the ejetion guide () s you ensure tht the left nd right sides remin even nd tht the right edge of the pper remins prllel with the ornge pper lignment line (). Next, lower the relese lever. 12 Close the top over. After roll of pper is loded, the disply sreen utomtilly disply pper type seletion menu nd the printer eeps. Be sure to perform steps 10 nd 11. If pper nnot feed stright or eomes urled, it my ru ginst the print hed or e jmmed. Do not pull pper in n ttempt to fore it to lign with the pper lignment line (). Doing so my use the pper to not feed stright. 13 The sreen for seleting the pper type is shown on the disply sreen. Press or to selet the type of pper loded in the printer. Selet Coted Pper nd then press OK. Then from the menu tht ppers, selet HW Coted nd then press OK. 14 One feeding the pper is finished, the printer utomtilly strts hrging the system with ink nd djusting the printhed. Chrging the system with ink nd djusting the printhed for the first time tkes out 41 minutes. Instll the printer driver nd eletroni mnuls on your omputer while the printer is working. (See "Instll the Softwre nd the Eletroni Mnuls" on pge 12) Pper egins feeding. If Pper loded rooked. ppers on the disply sreen, refer to steps 10 nd 11 to relod the roll of pper. If the error ours gin fter you relod the pper, remove the roll holder from the printer nd hek to mke sure tht the roll of pper is in lose ontt with the roll holder flnge s desried in step 5. Chrging the system with ink fills the system etween the ink tnks nd printheds. In ddition, lening is performed to keep the printer in optiml ondition. This my use the remining ink inditor nd mintenne rtridge pity inditor to drop to out 80 % (the remining ink inditor my drop to out 40 % for the strter ink tnk), ut this is not prolem with the printer. When printhed djustment is finished, Redy ppers on the disply sreen. After you hve finished setting up the printer nd instlling the softwre nd eletroni mnuls, we reommend performing olor lirtion. Color lirtion ompenstes for hnges in olor from individul vrition nd ged deteriortion of the printer, ensuring etter olor onsisteny. Perform olor lirtion using the provided Smple Pper, whih is omptile with this proess. For informtion on other omptile pper, refer to the Pper Referene Guide. During olor lirtion, on the ontrol pnel's disply sreen, open (settings/dj. t) nd selet Adjust Printer - Clirtion - Auto Adjust. The proess of olor lirtion tkes out 10 minutes. If you use the olor lirtion for olor djustment, it is useful to set the funtion to notify the exeution period (Prompt Exeution).
