Feed dog position swith Use the feed dog position swith to rise nd lower the feed dogs while the emroidery unit is tthed. d Emroidery unit onnetion Insert the emroidery unit onnetion into the onnetion port when tthing the emroidery unit. e Emroidery frme holder Insert the emroidery frme into the emroidery frme holder to hold the frme in ple. f Frme-seuring lever Press the frme-seuring lever down to seure the emroidery frme. CAUTION After the emroidery frme is set in the frme holder, e sure the frme-seuring lever is orretly lowered. Note Be sure tht the feed dog position swith on the emroidery unit is loted t right when emroidering. You n lso sew utility/deortive stithes with the emroidery unit tthed. Strt/Stop utton Press this utton nd the mhine will sew few stithes t slow speed nd then egin sewing t the speed set y the sewing speed ontroller. Press the utton gin to stop the mhine. Hold the utton in to sew t the mhine s slowest speed. The utton hnges olor ording to the mhine s opertion mode. Green: Red: the mhine is redy to sew or is sewing. the mhine nnot sew. Reverse/Reinforement Stith utton Use this utton to sew reinforement stithes t the eginning nd end of sewing. Press this utton, nd the mhine sews 3 stithes in the sme spot nd stops utomtilly. For stright nd zigzg stith ptterns tht tke reverse stithes, the mhine will sew reverse stithes t low speed only while holding down the Reverse/Reinforement Stith utton (the stithes re sewn in the opposite diretion). Needle Position utton Use this utton when hnging sewing diretion or for detiled sewing in smll res. Press this utton to rise or lower the needle position. Press the utton twie to sew single stith. d Thred Cutter utton Press this utton fter sewing to utomtilly trim the exess thred. e Presser Foot Lifter utton Press this utton to lower the presser foot nd pply pressure to the fri. Press this utton gin to rise the presser foot. f Sewing Speed ontroller Use this ontroller to djust the sewing speed. Move the slide to the left to sew t slower speeds. Move the slide to the right to sew t higher speeds. Beginners should sew t slow speed. g Automti Threding utton Use this utton to utomtilly thred the needle. 19 TURNING THE MACHINE ON/OFF TURNING THE MACHINE ON/OFF WARNING Use only regulr household eletriity s the power soure. Using other power soures my result in fire, eletri shok, or dmge to the mhine. Turn the min power to OFF nd remove the plug in the following irumstnes: When you re wy from the mhine After using the mhine When the power fils during use When the mhine does not operte orretly due to d onnetion or disonnetion During eletril storms CAUTION Do not use extension ords or multi-plug dpters with mny other pplines plugged in to them. Fire or eletri shok my result. Do not touh the plug with wet hnds. Eletri shok my result. When unplugging the mhine, lwys turn the min power to OFF first. Alwys grsp the plug to remove it from the outlet. Pulling on the ord my dmge the ord, or led to fire or eletri shok. Do not llow the power ord to e ut, dmged, modified, forefully ent, pulled, twisted, or undled. Do not ple hevy ojets on the ord. Do not sujet the ord to het. When leving the mhine unttended, either the min swith of the mhine should e turned to OFF or the plug must e removed from the soket-outlet. When serviing the mhine or when removing overs, either the mhine or the eletril set must e unplugged. For U.S.A. only This ppline hs polrized plug (one lde wider thn the other). To redue the risk of eletril shok, this plug is intended to fit in polrized outlet only one wy. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. Either 1-01 Stright stith (Left) or 1-03 Stright stith (Middle) is seleted, depending on the setting seleted in the setting sreen (See pge 12). Press key with your finger to selet the stith pttern, to selet mhine funtion, or to selet n opertion indited on the key. 1 Note When the stright stith needle plte is on the mhine, the needle will utomtilly move to the middle position. Using the Spool Pin You n use the min spool pin to wind the oin efore sewing. You nnot use this spool pin to wind the oin while sewing Getting Redy j The oin strts winding utomtilly nd stops rotting when it is done winding. The oin holder will return to the originl position. Cut the thred with the utter nd remove the oin. Turn the min power to ON. Align the groove in the oin with the spring on the oin winder shft, nd set the oin on the shft. o l 1 When removing the oin, do not pull on the oin winder set. Doing so ould loosen or remove the oin winder set, nd ould result in dmge to the mhine. CAUTION Setting the oin improperly my use the thred tension to loosen, reking the needle nd possily resulting in injury. Boin over Lth The oin over opens. Remove the oin over. Hold the oin with your right hnd nd d hold the end of the thred with your left hnd. 34 LOWER THREADING e Set the oin in the oin se so tht the thred unwinds to the left. h Insert the t in the lower-left orner of the oin over, nd then lightly press down on the right side to lose the over. 1 Getting Redy f Hold the oin lightly with your right hnd, nd then guide the thred with your left hnd. Pulling Up the Boin Thred There my e some sewing pplitions where you wnt to pull up the oin thred; for exmple, when mking gthers, drts, or doing free motion quilting or emroidery. You n pull up the oin thred fter threding the upper thred (see UPPER THREAD- ING on pge 25). g Pss the thred through the guide, nd then pull the thred out towrds the front. Guide the oin thred through the groove, following the rrow in the illustrtion. * Do not ut the thred with the utter. * Do not reple the oin over. Cutter The utter uts the thred. While holding the upper thred, press the needle position utton to lower the needle. CAUTION Be sure to hold down the oin with your finger nd unwind the oin thred orretly. Note If you try to thred the needle utomtilly without rising the needle, the thred my not thred orretly. Pivot the spool pin so tht it ngles upwrd. Set the thred spool on the spool pin so tht the thred unwinds from the front of the spool. The utomti threding funtion n e used with sewing mhine needles 75/11 through 100/16. Thred suh s trnsprent nylon monofilment thred nd thred with thikness of 130/20 or thiker nnot e used with the utomti threding funtion. The utomti threding funtion nnot e used with the wing needle or the twin needle. If the utomti threding funtion nnot e used, see Threding Mnully on pge 27.
