2 INVITATION The first international resource recovery conference brings together researchers involved in the recovery and production of resources from aqueous streams and representatives of the chemical and other industries. The main scope of the meeting is to create better pipelines from resource ( wastewater ) to the industries using the products. Such pipelines can create a demand driven process development as well as avoid mismatches between product specification and market demands. Session approaches will span from basic research to industrial demonstrations, with topics including nutrient recovery, organics production, integrated water recovery, environmental assessment, energy transformation, extraction technology, process modelling, regulatory and societal aspects and others. The meeting is jointly organized by the Resource Recovery Technology (R 2 T) consortium (an industry- supported technology platform at Ghent University consisting of LabMet, BIOMATH and PAINT), the Belgian branch of IWA (B- IWA) and the Resource Recovery Cluster of IWA and is supported by IWA. To cover the diverse aspects of resource recovery, the meeting will be chaired by Willy Verstraete, Korneel Rabaey, Ingmar Nopens and Arne Verliefde. 6 GENERAL INFORMATION Congress Venue IWA RR2015 will take place at Het Pand, a formal Dominican Monastery dating from the 13 th century. It is in the immediate vicinity of Sint- Michiels - Church. Onderbergen 1, 9000 Ghent, Belgium How to reach Ghent By Air Belgium s National Airport is situated in Brussels- Zaventem, only 50 minutes away from Ghent and has flights from over 70 international destinations, operated by more than 140 international and regional airline companies. The other Belgian airports, Ostend, Antwerp and Charleroi, serve several European destinations and have easy and direct connections to Ghent. By Train Ghent, situated on the important railway network London- - Brussels- - Cologne is accessible. Thanks to its central location in Flanders, and just 30 min away from Brussels Midi Station, Ghent is very easily accessible by train from all Belgian and European Cities. The high- speed trains, Eurostar and Thalys, take you to Ghent in less than 2 hours from Paris and in about 3 hours from London, Amsterdam and Cologne. There is a direct train from Zaventem (Brussels Airport) to Ghent (St.- Pieters). By Car Ghent is located approximately 60 km west of Brussels. As Belgium has the densest highway network in Europe, Ghent can easily be reached by car from all over Europe. Ghent is accessible via the E40 motorway Brussels- Ostend.
