1 BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER NEW YORK The Australian Trade Commission Austrade contributes to Australia's economic prosperity by helping Australian businesses, education institutions, tourism operators, governments and citizens as they: win productive foreign direct investment; develop international markets; promote international education; strengthen Australia's tourism industry; and seek consular and passport services We achieve this by generating market information and insight, promoting Australian capabilities, developing policy, making connections through an extensive global network of contacts, leveraging the badge of government offshore and providing quality advice and services. Specifically, we: Help Australian companies to grow their business in international markets, including through administration of the Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) scheme and the TradeStart program. Provide coordinated government assistance to attract and facilitate productive foreign direct investment (FDI) into Australia. Promote the Australian education sector in international markets and assist Australian education providers with market information. Provide advice to the Australian Government on its trade, tourism and investment policy agenda. Develop policy, manage programs and provide research to strengthen Australia's tourism industry and to grow Australia's tourism market share. Deliver Australian consular, passport and other government services in designated overseas locations. Manage the Building Brand Australia program to enhance awareness of contemporary Australian skills and capability and enrich Australia's global reputation. 2 Position Description Title: Business Development Manager Position Number(s): 2847 Division, Unit, Location: International Operations, Established Markets, New York Level: Austrade Overseas Performance Level (AOPL) 4 Term: Reporting to: Ongoing Responsible to the Senior Trade Commissioner (hereafter referred to as the STC ) Role: Business Development Manager Duties: Broad Functions Under the leadership of the STC and in conjunction with the Austrade team across North America this position will execute strategies and plans for trade, investment, tourism and international education outcomes for Australia. Duties and Responsibilities Contribute to the delivery of trade, investment and international education objectives as outlined in Austrade s USA Market Plan Develop and maintain productive business networks in the market, representing Austrade with companies, government agencies and business groups Within assigned priority sectors, identify, target and promote inward investment opportunities to major enterprises located in the market Identify opportunities to promote the advantages of Australia as a location for investment and as a trade partner and prepare and/or deliver presentations at relevant conferences and business events Monitor and assess key business and sectoral trends as well as significant commercial developments in the market and assess and report on the potential impact on Australian trade and business interests Contribute to the identification of commercial opportunities for Australian businesses and work with referral partners and associations in market to provide practical advice and insights to Australian businesses and institutions to enter the market Support visits to the market by government ministers and senior officials through the development of programs to raise the profile of Australian business, investment opportunities and to foster new business linkages in priority sectors Contribute to knowledge sharing and insight development within Austrade, by adopting information practices and maintaining accuracy of information in all Austrade Business Systems Maintain Austrade standards of professional and ethical conduct at all times and adhere to Page 2 of 6

4 Selection Criteria Assessment The selection criteria highlight the essential components (skills, experience and qualities) that are required to perform in the role effectively. Your answers will form part of the overall assessment and are essential for you to demonstrate how your skills and experience support you as a suitable candidate for the role. Demonstrated high level communication skills (includes interpersonal, presentation, influencing and business writing skills) with a particular ability to represent Austrade and Australia in a professional capacity to a broad range of audiences. 2. Demonstrated skills in the development and management of productive working relationships (includes: clients, customers, internal/external bodies, and partners etc.) as well as proven ability to utilise a network to help achieve business results. 3. Demonstrated track record of executing business plans and achieving results in a commercial environment. 4. Research and analytical skills and the ability to apply this successfully to trade / investment facilitation. 5. Well-developed time management skills and proven experience of working independently and in a team. 6. Sound experience in (or demonstrated ability to develop knowledge/understanding of) : Factors and decisions relevant to business development, trade and investment, Government policies and practices relevant to trade and investment, including relevant assistance programs for US and Australian business, Australian business capability across priority sectors relevant to the local market Assessment Applications will be assessed by a Selection Panel following the establishment of a shortlist for interview. Once interviews are held, an offer will be made to the applicant considered as most suitable for the role (generally within 6-8 weeks of the closing date for applications). 5 Employment Terms General Information These are locally-engaged positions governed by Austrade s Overseas Engaged Employees terms and conditions and US labour law. Ongoing employment with Austrade will be offered for these positions. Salary This position is at Austrade Overseas Performance Level (AOPL) 4 with a commencement salary between $88,229 - $90,645 USD per annum (gross). Mandatory Requirements: Education: - Minimum Bachelor level relevant tertiary qualification (for example but not limited to International Business/Economics/Marketing or industry-related disciplines). Experience: - Minimum 5 years of experience in a business development, government trade or economic development agency or a similar role. Language Proficiency: - Applicants must be fluent both in written and spoken English. Shortlisted applicants may be first tested by telephone prior to Austrade committing to interview.
