6 Introduction Please find enclosed the IRT College Education Calendar for January to June In 2015 we are offering a range of courses (both accredited and non-accredited) to meet your immediate and future training needs. A full suite of targeted short courses are available to ensure your team is continuously improving their skills and knowledge. Our mission is to meet your training needs and we welcome your feedback and advice regarding what we offer now and if you believe there are gaps to be met. Each week Managers will receive the Training Enrolment Confirmation report which indicates the training that employees have enrolled in for the upcoming year. 10 Car parking IRT College Suite 10, Burelli Street Wollongong NSW 2500 The bus stop and train station are located within a short walk from the College. Unmetered street parking is available, however not on the streets directly in front/around the College. Corporate Services Level 3, 77 Market Street Wollongong NSW 2500 IRT does not have car parking available at Corporate Services. There is very limited free parking on the streets around the building and the majority of nearby streets offer twohour metered parking. If you are attending training for the day, you may wish to use Kings Car Park which is located close by. 14 Course Delivery IRT College will be using a variety of learning methods to deliver both our full qualifications and short courses in Some courses will be delivered through blended learning, where a combination of methods are used. The icons below will help you to identify how the courses will be delivered. Classroom Learning (Face-to-face) Classroom learning is a Trainer-led approach, where the Trainer and students meet in a classroom for a specified duration. This is the most commonly used method to deliver courses. Online Learning Online learning or e-learning is the use of technology, such as the Internet and a computer to enable people to learn anytime and anywhere. Online learning can take place in the classroom, workplace, at home or at a public library. On-the-job Learning On-the-job learning takes places in a workplace and can be via employment or a work placement. This type of learning allows students to get hands on, practical experience. Self-directed Learning Self-directed learning is when students are required to undertake some learning independently and in their own time. Date Created: November 2014 Page 12 of 62

15 Online Learning Introduction to Online Learning IRT College is excited to announce the launch of online learning in Online learning or e-learning is the use of technology, such as the Internet and a computer to enable people to learn anytime and anywhere. Online learning can take place in the classroom, workplace, at home or at a public library. IRT College s online learning space will allow you to learn in a new and exciting way through interactive modules, quizzes and short videos. It allows you to be in control of your learning and to complete these activities at your own pace. What courses will be delivered online? IRT College will be using Online Learning to deliver a variety of courses, both full qualifications and short courses. All full qualification courses will be delivered using a blended learning model, which involves a combination of both face-to-face classes as well as online learning. Some short courses will be delivered using the blended learning model, while others will be delivered completely online. The short courses that will be delivered online in 2015 are; IRT Group induction Basic cleaning skills Basic foot care Food Safety Toolbox Hi, I m Sally and I will be your Trainer when you are completing online courses! Workplace Coaching Basic Clinical observation skills IRT Management Toolbox Plus more in development IMPORTANT: Transition to online courses IRT College will be undergoing a six month transition period from January to June 2015 where face-to-face classes will still be run for some of the short courses listed above. In these classes students will be asked to complete the course online, however a Trainer will be available to assist students in a classroom setting. 16 Compulsory Training IRT Induction IRT ensures all employees are effectively and efficiently introduced to their new positions and the relevant policies, systems and processes of IRT in order to perform and develop in their roles. All new employees to the IRT Group will participate in the IRT Group on-boarding program. 17 IRT Management Toolbox Program The objective of the Management Toolbox is to develop knowledge of IRT practices to support existing Managers and employees developing management skills. Who should attend? Managers and senior level employees across IRT Group. This program is mandatory for new managers. It is also recommended for existing managers who wish to gain a better understanding of IRT processes and employees who are relieving their managers and performing tasks at a senior level. Course Delivery/Duration The participants will complete an online pre-work component. This will be followed by a one day interactive session with the facilitators and followed up with an assessment task. This workbook contains topic information, case studies and an assessment activity to complete. Participants should work through the workbook prior to the first day of the Management Toolbox program. The assessment for this training session is a written assessment which will demonstrate the learners understanding of the key areas covered within the two day course. When? The IRT Management Toolbox program will be delivered in both the Northern and Southern Regions of IRT during the year and those scheduled dates are to be advised. 23 Full Qualifications DUAL QUALIFICATION Certificate III in Aged Care CHC30212 Certificate III in Home and Community Care CHC30312 Course Description These qualifications develop the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to seniors in a range of settings within a plan of care, including aged care residential services and Home and Community Care (In-Home Care). You will learn to competently provide personal care as well as provide support to seniors in a wide range of other activities. Upon successful completion of the course, participants are issued with the nationally recognised qualification Certificate III in Aged Care (CHC30212) and Certificate III in Home and Community Care (CHC30312). 24 Course Delivery/Duration IRT College offers the following options to suit your needs (minimum enrolment conditions apply): On Track this course is delivered over 18 weeks, with participants completing two days per week class time and scheduled assessments. There is a mandatory work placement component where participants will be required to undertake 10 days of work placement (two blocks of five days) within the 18-week course. 12-month program this course is run over a maximum of four terms, with participants completing face-to-face training one full day per fortnight at IRT sites. This course also includes scheduled assessments conducted over the duration of the course and work placement for those not working within the industry. 25 Certificate III in Health Support Services HLT32812 IRT College Education Calendar Course Description This qualification covers workers who provide support for the effective functioning of health services, requiring discretion and judgment. These functions are carried out under supervision. These workers may also perform a team leadership, workplace training or leading hand function. Health Support Services do not involve direct care assistance tasks such as assisting other employees with care of clients. Entry Requirements There are no entry requirements or prerequisites for this course. Course Delivery/Duration Six-month program this course is delivered over 10 sessions scheduled fortnightly. Participants who are not currently working within the industry will complete a minimum of three days work experience within this period. 26 DUAL QUALIFICATION Certificate IV in Aged Care CHC40108 Certificate IV in Home and Community Care CHC40212 IRT College Education Calendar Course Description These qualifications develop the skills and knowledge necessary to provide services to individuals with complex needs as well as to work with groups in a Residential Aged Care service and Home and Community Care (In-Home Care). You will learn a range of skills that can be applied in Team Leader roles and broaden your scope to include training and support to promote independence and community participation for clients in need. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be awarded a dual qualification in Certificate IV in Aged Care (CHC40108) and Certificate IV in Home and Community Care (CHC40212). 49 Work Health and Safety Care Safe Manual Handling Course Overview Manual handling risks are the largest single cause of injuries in our industry. This course is designed to give all employees an understanding of the risks associated with manual handling tasks in aged care. The course will provide basic theory of: the spine Work Health and Safety (WHS) risk management principles safe manual handling techniques how to consider Task, Individual, Load and Environment (TILE) prior to manual handling tasks. Participants will be required to demonstrate their understanding of the theory during a practical assessment during the training. Upon successful completion of the session, participants will be able to correctly identify manual handling hazards and use appropriate techniques to reduce the risk of injury. Trainers Illawarra Margie Groat is a Registered Nurse and is the Director of Workplace OH&S Solutions and holds a Diploma of Applied Science (Nursing), Graduate Diploma of OH&S and is a qualified trainer and auditor. She has experience in a variety of industries including hospital emergency departments, manufacturing, pharmaceutical and aged care. Paul Molinia joined Recovery Partners in May 2010 and has qualifications in Exercise Science, a Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training, and an Advanced Return-To-Work Coordinator Accreditation from WorkCover. South Coast Jessica Willmer is a Chiropractor who completed her studies at Macquarie University. After working in her own practice, Jessica moved to the South Coast of NSW and commenced her position with RehabCo in the field of Workplace Rehabilitation. IRT Kangara Waters Judy Heussler has worked with Neurospace since April Judy has a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Queensland and is a highly experienced Physiotherapist. She has worked in Australia and overseas in both hospital and physiotherapy clinic settings. Judy continues to build on her knowledge and last year completed a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. IRT Macarthur Karl Christl has qualifications in physiotherapy and law. He has over 15 years experience in the aged care sector, and is currently self-employed as a physiotherapy aged care consultant. 51 Fire Officer Refresher Every healthcare Fire Safety Officer should undertake recertification at intervals of no greater than three years to maintain their qualification. (NSW Department of Health Circular 2003/046 Appendix 2 pg16) Role of a Fire Safety Officer Ensure that appropriate written fire safety and fire emergency response procedures are available. Ensure that all employees participate in fire emergency response training (which is to include practical evacuation exercises), and to maintain related records. 52 Fire Officer Training Course Overview Fire Safety Officer training is attended by employees with limited or no fire safety experience and who are fulfilling a secondary appointment role in an aged care facility.
