11 4 RISK MANAGEMENT 4.1 IDENTIFYING HAZARDS AND MANAGING RISKS We will systematically identify hazards and assess risks befre the prject starts by using the hierarchy f cntrl (see 4.2) in cnjunctin with: develping Safe Wrk Methd Statements (SWMS) t cntrl risks assciated with high risk cnstructin wrk using a risk management frm t cntrl general cnstructin risks where necessary <INSERT ANY OTHER STEPS IF NECESSARY> We will als identify risks: befre we buy r re-rder any chemicals when intrducing a new task when new infrmatin is received abut tasks, prcedures, equipment r chemicals. We will infrm ur wrkers f ur risk management prcedures and ensure they are trained in risk management. 4.2 HIERARCHY OF CONTROL We will cntrl all risks we identify by applying the Hierarchy f Cntrls as fllws: Eliminate Substitute Islate Engineering cntrls Administrative cntrls Persnal Prtective Equipment. 12 5 HIGH RISK CONSTRUCTION WORK 5.1 HIGH RISK CONSTRUCTION WORK We have identified the fllwing high risk activities fr this prject. A Safe Wrk Methd Statement (SWMS) has been develped fr each f the high risk cnstructin wrk activities. We will als develp SWMSs fr any additinal high risk wrk that is intrduced r identified during the prject. The principal cntactr may recrd details f the incident and will ensure any remedial actin is taken. 6.3 NOTIFIABLE INCIDENTS We will reprt the fllwing incidents t the apprpriate Wrkplace Authrity in ur State a fatality an incident requiring hspitalisatin a dangerus incident, which culd have resulted in smene being killed, r suffering a serius bdily injury. In the event f a persn being injured, trained first aid persnnel shuld: stabilise the persn and administer first aid phne an ambulance (depending n the extent f the injuries) if emergency services are called, ntify the principal cntractr immediately. 17 7 INDUCTION AND TRAINING 7.1 WORKER INDUCTION The principal cntractr will wrk with ther cntractrs t ensure a site specific inductin is prvided fr all wrkers befre starting wrk. This inductin must utline: the expectatins utlined in this WHS Management Plan, including all plicies and prcedures the emergency meeting pint the site rules the facilities any site specific hazards high risk cnstructin wrk activities <INSERT ANY OTHER REQUIREMENTS> 7.2 WORKER TRAINING The principal cntractr will: ensure wrkers are trained and cmpetent fr the wrk t be carried ut ensure wrkers are trained t deal with any risks assciated with the wrk and understand the cntrl measures in place ensure all wrkers have had relevant white card training (r ther apprpriate training frm anther jurisdictin) ensure n-site training and supervisin is prvided rganise external training fr specific tasks where required seek high risk licences fr all high risk wrk and maintain a register f licences cmmunicate with ther cntractrs t ensure their wrkers are apprpriately trained and cmpetent. 20 9 SITE SAFETY PROCEDURES 9.1 SITE RULES <INSERT YOUR SITE RULES HERE > A cpy f the site rules is displayed in the site ffice. 9.2 SITE AMENITIES Tilets and drinking water will be prvided n site. 21 Wrkers and cntractrs are expected t keep the site secure, fr example by clsing r lcking gates. 9.4 SITE SIGNAGE At a minimum, we will display the fllwing signs n the entrance t the site: the principal cntractr s name, cntact details and after-hurs telephne number the lcatin f the site ffice. The principal cntractr will als display: <INSERT ANY OTHER SIGNAGE YOU INTEND TO USE> All signage will be clearly visible frm utside the site address where the cnstructin prject is being undertaken. 9.5 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT We will prvide the persnal prtective equipment (PPE) t wrkers at the wrkplace, unless the PPE has been prvided by anther cntractr. The persn prviding the PPE must ensure that the PPE is: suitable fr the nature f the wrk and any hazard assciated with the wrk a suitable size and fit and reasnably cmfrtable fr the wrker wh is t use r wear it maintained, repaired r replaced s that it cntinues t minimise risk t the wrker wh uses it, including by: ensuring it is clean and hygienic ensuring it is in gd wrking rder ensuring it is used r wrn by the wrker, s far as is reasnably practicable. The persn supplying the PPE must als: prvide wrkers with infrmatin, training and instructin in the prper use, wearing, strage and maintenance f PPE ensure that any ther persn at the wrkplace (such as hme wners, clients r inspectrs) is apprpriately prvided with PPE t wear as required. 22 9.6 MANAGING CONSTRUCTION HAZARDS SPECIFIED IN THE REGULATIONS Falls frm heights We will manage the risks assciated with falls frm heights by: ensuring that where practicable, any wrk invlving the risk f a fall is undertaken n the grund r n a slid cnstructin (such as an elevated wrk platfrm) (where this is nt practicable), prviding a fall preventin device such as secure fencing, edge prtectin, wrking platfrms and/r cvers (where this is nt practicable), prviding a wrk psitining system such as plant r a structure (ther than a temprary wrk platfrm) that enables a persn t be psitined and safely supprted (where this is nt practicable), prviding a fall arrest system such as a safety harness system. Wrkers will be trained in emergency prcedures fr fall arrest systems <INSERT ANY OTHER REQUIREMENTS> When undertaking wrk invlving the risk f a fall frm height, wrkers must: fllw all instructins wrk with a buddy when using a ladder nly use apprved wrk platfrms <INSERT ANY OTHER REQUIREMENTS> Falling bjects Where practical, we will prvide adequate prtectin against the risk f falling bjects thrugh the use f cntrl measures such as barrier screen, te-bards and by string and stacking materials safely. Where this is nt pssible, a risk assessment must be undertaken and apprpriate cntrl measures implemented t manage the risk f injuries frm falling bjects. Demlitin wrk We expect / d nt expect (Circle) t undertake demlitin wrk fr this prject. Wrk near verhead r undergrund essential services We will ensure, where reasnably practical, that that n-ne cmes within an unsafe distance f an verhead r undergrund pwer line. If maintaining a safe distance is nt reasnably practical, we will: assess the risk assciated with the prpsed wrk implement cntrl measures cnsistent with the risk assessment cntact and cnsult with the lcal essential service prvided. Flexible crds used n cnstructin sites must be rated heavy duty. T avid cnfusin with individual earthing cnductrs, green sheathed flexible pwer crds must nt be used n site. Flexible crds must be either prtected by a suitable enclsure r barrier (flexible r rigid cnduit) r lcated where they are nt subjected t mechanical damage, damage by liquids r high temperature (elevated n stands r hung frm nncnductive supprt brackets).
