4 Business Cntinuity Business cntinuity the activity perfrmed by an rganizatin t ensure that critical business functins will be available t custmers, suppliers, regulatrs, and ther entities as required 24 hurs a day t thse functins. Methds used t maintain business cntinuity may include but is nt limited t: Creating a Disaster Recvery Plan (DRP) Data backups Server clustering Off-site backups Using Uninterruptable Pwer Supply (UPS) Implementing alternative pwer surces.

5 Data Redundancy Data redundancy a prperty f sme disk arrays (mst cmmnly in RAID systems) which prvides fault tlerance, s that all r part f the data stred in the array can be recvered in the case f disk failure. RAID 1 Mirrred disk drives. RAID 5 Data striping with parity fault tlerance the prperty that enables a system t cntinue perating prperly in the event f the failure f sme f its cmpnents.

6 Data Redundancy Windws Server Backup (WSB) prvides a basic backup and recvery slutin fr cmputers running the Windws Server 2008 perating system. WSB is nt installed by default. It must be added as a Feature thrugh Server Manager: 1. Click Start->All Prgrams->Administrative Tls->Click Server Manager. 2. Click n the Features Summary Sectin, Click Add Features n the right. 3. Expand Windws Server Backup Features and select Windws Server Backup and Cmmand-line Tls. 4. Click Next and then click Install. 5. When it is finished installing, click Clse.

7 Data Redundancy Backups can be scheduled t run at different times using Backup Schedule Individual backups can be run using the Backup Once ptin Data can be restred using the Recver ptin. Full server backups can be run r individual items can be selected.

Flder Redirectin a feature that allws users and administratrs t redirect the path f a flder t a new lcatin. The new lcatin can be a flder n the lcal cmputer r a directry n a netwrk share. My Dcuments is a flder that is typically redirected frm the lcal hard drive t a netwrk share. This prevents data lss in the event f a disk failure n the lcal system, while prviding a means t backup the data frm a netwrk share. Als makes the data available frm mre than ne system.

10 Data Availability Uninterruptable Pwer Supply (UPS) a device, cnnected between a cmputer and a pwer surce, that ensures that electrical flw t the cmputer is nt interrupted because f a blackut and, in mst cases, prtects the cmputer against ptentially damaging events. Nt intended t maintain pwer t the cmputer fr an extended amunt f time. Designed t prvide enugh pwer t safely pwer dwn the equipment. If extended pwer is required, an alternative pwer surce such as a pwer generatr must be implemented. Hspitals, airprts and security firms are examples f cmpanies that wuld require an alternative pwer surce.

11 Disaster Recvery Disaster recvery the prcess, plicies and prcedures related t preparing fr recvery r cntinuatin f the technlgy infrastructure critical t an rganizatin after a natural r human-induced disaster. Recvery may include, but is nt limited t: File/data recvery can range frm recvering a single file t entire vlume f data. Active Directry recvery restring a dmain cntrller s system state back by bting int Directry Services Restre Mde in the Advanced Bt Optins. This includes a recvery f the Active Directry Dmain Services database. Bare-metal recvery restring an entire perating system nt new hardware. Data center recvery restring a data-center t an ff site lcatin with the use f redundant backups and equipment.

12 Disaster Recvery Plan Can range frm a simple task t recvering an entire data center. The disaster recver plan may include but is nt limited t: Detailed prcedures t restre missin critical machines.
