Cdec Enhancements Cdec enhancements in Release 7.5 include the fllwing features: G.722 Supprted Devices/Interfaces G.722 License Infrmatin G.722 in HMCP Bard Cnfiguratin G.722 in the Current Resurce Statistics View Managing Cdec Pririties Managing IP Netwrk Bandwidth Cdec Negtiatin Cdec Upgrades Cdec Preference fr Incming SIP Trunk Calls Cdec Preference fr Outging SIP Trunk Calls MAXCS 7.5 supprts the G.722 cdec (fr Sftswitch and Clud deplyments; G.722 is nt supprted n hardware chassis deplyments). G.722 is a wideband audi cdec that prvides higher vice quality than mre narrw-bandwidth cdecs such as G.711. MAXCS supprts G.722 64 kbps nly. The CPU prcessing requirement fr G.722 is similar t G.723 and G.729. It is designed t use the same cmb cdec resurces as G.723 and G.729. Release 7.5 ffers mre flexible cdec preference settings than earlier releases. Enterprise Manager cnverts yur existing cdec cnfiguratin t new 7.5 cdec prfile settings. Because f this, after yu upgrade t release 7.5, yu shuld review the cnverted cdec settings and adjust them as needed. G.722 Supprted Devices/Interfaces The G.722 cdec is supprted in HMCP media servers nly. AltiGen s telephny bards, including the Tritn and Visin bards, d nt supprt the G.722 cdec. Managing Cdec Pririty The Enterprise Manager Cdec tab has been updated. Yu ll nw see a list f available and selected cdecs. Click the Add and Remve buttns t mve cdecs frm ne list t the ther, as needed. During cdec negtiatin, the highest-pririty cdec that the receiving end supprts will be used. Therefre, yu shuld srt the Selected Cdec list by pririty, frm tp t bttm. Use the Up and Dwn buttns t d this. The Selected Cdec list als appears in the SDP Cdec Capability list fr cdec negtiatin. The cdec prfile assigned t the SIP-TIE Trunk must use RFC2833 (DTMF) in rder t supprt Plycm phnes. We recmmend that yu cnfigure a single cdec fr SIP Trunk interfaces. Click the Advanced buttn t set cdec Jitter Buffer Range and cdec RTP Packet Length (ms) fr each cdec. MaxCS 7.5 New Features Guide Page 10 f 22

Managing IP Netwrk Bandwidth Als in Enterprise Manager, the Servers > IP Netwrks tab has been updated. Instead f specifying the maximum number f sessins per each cdec, as in previus releases, in release 7.5 yu specify the maximum number f sessins per bandwidth range. The actual netwrk bandwidth required fr the bit rate range is used fr the bandwidth calculatin. 33 t 64 Kbps bit rate is translated int 100Kbps netwrk bandwidth, which includes LAN and IP/UDP/RTP header verhead. 16 t 32Kbps and under 16Kbps are translated int 65 Kbps and 40 Kbps, respectively. The maximum number f allwed G.711 and G.722 cdecs appears by default. Yu can lwer these numbers by clicking the dwn arrw until yu reach the desired amunt. After the maximum number f sessins has been reached, the call negtiated with this cdec bit rate will be rejected. Als, after the ttal bandwidth utilizatin f all the cdecs exceeds the value specified in Bandwidth fr VOIP parameter, new calls cannt be established. MaxCS 7.5 New Features Guide Page 11 f 22

Cdec Negtiatin The lgic fr negtiating cdec capabilities varies fr varius types f cnnectin. Cdec Negtiatin Server t Client With a server-t-client cnnectin, the highest pririty cdec in the server s cdec list that is supprted by the client will be assigned. Fllwing is an example f a typical setting fr SIP devices n a LAN: G.722, then G.711 Mu-Law. This hierarchy allws Plycm phnes and the AltiGen IP-805 phne t cnnect via G.722. AltiGen IP phnes will cnnect with G.711. The next example shws a typical setting fr SIP devices n a WAN: First G.729, the G.723.1, and then G.711 u- Law. This hierarchy allws remte SIP devices t use the cmpressed cdec G.729. Remte IPTalk instances use G.723.1, and G.711 is used fr ther remte devices that d nt supprt the ther tw cdecs. Cdec Negtiatin Server t Server With server-t-server cnnectins, the respnding device determines the cdec frm the cmmn cdecs that bth f the devices accept. Usually, the respnding device selects the first preferred cdec frm amng the cmmn list. We recmmend that yu assign a preferred cdec n bth servers, s that bth incming and utging events use the same cdec. If yu are nt sure f the cdecs supprted by yur SIP Trunk prvider, then we recmmend that yu cnfigure a single cdec (yur preferred cdec) fr SIP Trunks. MaxCS 7.5 New Features Guide Page 12 f 22

Cdec Upgrades As mentined earlier, Release 7.5 ffers mre flexible cdec preference settings than earlier releases. Enterprise Manager cnverts yur existing cdec cnfiguratin t new 7.5 cdec prfile settings. Because f this, after yu upgrade t release 7.5, yu shuld review the cnverted cdec settings and adjust them as needed. The fllwing table details hw cdec prfiles are cnverted during the upgrade prcess. Original Cdec Prfile G.711 Mu-Law G.711 Mu-Law G.711 A-Law G.711 A-Law Cnverted MAXCS 7.5 Selected Cdec Prfile Prefer G723.1 supprt G729 G723.1, G729 Prefer G729 supprt G723.1 G729, G723.1 Prefer G.711 Mu-Law supprt G.711 A-Law Prefer G.711 A-Law supprt G.711 Mu-Law G.711 Mu-Law, G.711 A-Law G.711 A-Law, G.711 Mu-Law Cdec Preference (HCMP) MAXCS 7.5 includes a new feature designed t help yu reduce the CPU cnsumptin that ccurs are a result f cdec encding and decding. It allws yu t indicate a cdec preference (G.729 r G.711) fr calls handled via a SIP trunk. This apprach eliminates the steps f encding and decding packets are directly frwarded t the endpint. The preference that yu set must be supprted by the SIP Trunk prvider, and must be included in the cdec prfile list fr SIP Trunks. While this feature is enabled, then the SIP device s cdec cnfiguratin in Enterprise Manager will be ignred. Cdec preference applies t HMCP nly. All SIP devices must supprt G.711 ulaw; if there are n cmmn cdecs n the device side, and then G.711 ulaw will be used. This cdec preference applies t all SIP Trunk inbund calls and direct extensin t SIP trunk utbund calls that are initiated frm a phne r dialed via a MAXCS client. Fax-ver IP verrides this setting; it will always use G.711. Outbund calls initiated by the system (such as calls frm the vicemail system r ONA may nt use the preferred cdec. T cnfigure this feature, 1. Lg int MAXCS Administratr with the superpasswrd. If yu d nt lg in via the superpasswrd, the feature will nt be enabled. 2. Open the HMCP bard cnfiguratin panel (duble-click HMCP in the Bards windw). 3. T enable the feature, check the bx and specify which cdec t use (G.729 r G.711 Mu-Law). Click Ok. MaxCS 7.5 New Features Guide Page 13 f 22

Cdec Preference Incming Calls When the Cdec Preference feature is enabled, the system uses the fllwing lgic fr handling incming calls, based upn the cntent f the first SIP INVITE request. Preferred Cdec is G.729 First SIP INVITE Request Cntent SIP Trunk supprts G.729 SIP Trunk des nt supprt G.729 Cdec Used fr Call The IP Cdec table f Enterprise Manager is ignred. Cdec Preference Outging Calls, Third-Party IP Phnes When the Cdec Preference feature is enabled, the system uses the fllwing lgic fr handling utging SIP trunk calls frm third-party IP phnes. (Calls are cnsidered SIP trunk calls if the target has a SIP trunk access cde r an utcall ruting access cde prefix.) Preferred Cdec is G.729 First SIP INVITE Request Supprts G.729 Des nt supprt G.729 Cdec Used fr Call The IP Cdec table f Enterprise Manager is ignred. Cdec Preference Outging Calls, AltiGen IP Phnes Because AltiGen IP Phne SIP call requests are always frm MAXCS, the behavir is different frm calls frm thirdparty phne extensins. When a user makes an utging call frm an AltiGen IP phne, the system fllws the IP Cdec table in Enterprise Manager. All AltiGen IP phnes supprt G.729 and G.711 Mu-Law. When the Cdec Preference feature is enabled, the system uses the fllwing lgic fr handling utging SIP trunk calls. Preferred Cdec G.729 G.711 Mu-Law Cdec Used fr Call The system mdifies the IP phne s cdec in the RE-INVTE SDP bdy with G.729 cdec. After the mdificatin, MaxCS must pick G.729 and G.711 cdecs as the preferred cdecs t negtiate with the endpint. The system mdifies the IP phne s cdec in the RE-INVTE SDP bdy with G.711 cdec. After the mdificatin, MaxCS must pick G.711 and G.729 cdecs as the preferred cdecs t negtiate with the endpint. If the surce extensin is enabled fr Fax-Over-IP (FIP), then n cdec is enfrced. Media Enhancements The fllwing media enhancements have been added fr MAXCS 7.5: Media Pass-thrugh T.38 Pass-thrugh Fax Supprt Fax Ruting Media Pass-thrugh (HMCP) Anther enhancement fr system perfrmance and vice quality is the Media Pass-thrugh feature. This feature applies nly t HMCP Sftswitch systems; it is enabled by default. While the Media Pass-thrugh feature is enabled, the HMCP driver desn t need t d encding and decding n bth channels.
