Detailed Conference Agenda & Registration PROGRAM OBJECTIVE To educate healthcare professionals on current research findings and clinical standards of stroke management and treatment. It will also allow the opportunity for general discussion and collaboration regarding state stroke care initiatives, the latest options for anticoagulation treatment, acute stroke treatment, endovascular therapies, transitions in care and building stronger stroke systems of care with EMS as a critical link in providing the stroke patient best treatment options. GENERAL INFORMATION LEARNING OBJECTIVES At the completion of this program, the learner will be able to: Identify one stroke initiative being implemented in NJ. Describe the indications for acute stroke intervention and restate the endovascular treatment options. Recognize prognostic and therapeutic implications of various approaches and definitions of rapidly improving stroke symptoms. Identify the 4 categories of symptoms that are associated with atypical stroke presentation. Identify 3 elements of pre-hospital stroke care that make a difference. Compare the difference between acute rehabilitation and subacute rehabilitation settings. Restate in-hospital initiatives to improve patient compliance and engagement in self care management for secondary prevention. Recognize the utility of telemedicine for the remote assessment of stroke patients in rehabilitation units. Provide 2 examples of micro and macro financial impact from stroke. Identify 3 key elements of a Comprehensive Stroke Center that distinguish it from a Primary Stroke Center across all designation programs. Describe the role of new technology in stroke rehabilitation. Review 4 communication strategies that health care workers can use with people with aphasia. Discuss 4 methods to improve pre-hospital treatment of stroke patients. Discuss emerging alternatives to "standard" intravenous rt-pa for acute stroke treatment. Compare the novel anticoagulants currently FDA approved for treatment of non-valvular atrial fibrillation, including indications for use, acute stroke care in patients on these drugs and reversal strategies.
