Instructins fr Installing ArcGIS 10 These detailed instructins will help yu chse the right ptins when installing the student evaluatin versin f ArcGIS 10. Yu will need t be cnnected t the Internet. Befre yu start these instructins: Uninstall previus versins f ArcGIS and Pythn if yu have any. IMPORTANT! Activate yur Authrizatin Number n the ESRI web site. Make sure that yu have an installatin DVD, r have cpied the install flder t yu hard drive. The installatin files may be fund a variety f places: As a dwnladable ISO (disc image) frm the ESRI educatin web site. An ISO file must be extracted using 7zip r similar prgram befre yu can install. Frm F:/Dept/gisdata/ArcGIS10. Yu can install directly frm this flder if yu are n a hardwired Internet cnnectin; nt recmmended using wireless Frm thumb drive prvided by Dr Price Step 1. Installing the sftware If using the DVD installatin methd: Put the DVD in the cmputer s drive. If a splash screen des nt appear, duble-click the Setup.exe file in the ArcGISDesktp flder n the DVD. If using cpied/dwnladed sftware: Open the flder where yu saved the ArcGIS10 install files. Find the ArcGISDesktp flder and duble-click the Setup.exe file t start it. Clse any currently running prgrams (it is kay t keep this pdf pen, thugh). Click Next n the Welcme panel. Click the buttn t accept the license agreement and click Next again. Click Setup t select the prduct as shwn abve. 1
Select the Cmplete ptin and click Next. Keep the default installatin lcatin fr ArcGIS. Click Next. Keep the default installatin lcatin fr Pythn. Click Next. Click Next t start installing. Wait fr it t finish. It can take 15-20 minutes r mre, s be patient and find smething else t d (nt n yur cmputer). When it finishes yu will see this screen. Click Finish. Step 2. Registering the installed sftware The Registratin windw belw shuld autmatically appear. If it des nt, g t Start > All Prgrams and pen the ArcGIS flder. Select the ArcGIS Administratr prgram. Click n the Desktp entry in the left panel, if necessary, t shw the Registratin windw belw. Select the ArcInf (Single Use) ptin and click Authrize Nw. 2
On the Authrizatin Optins panel, chse I have installed my sftware and need t authrize it. Click Next. Fr the Authrizatin Methd, chse Authrize with ESRI nw using the Internet. Click Next. Enter the Authrizatin Infrmatin if needed (tw panels) and click Next after each ne. Enter the Sftware Authrizatin Number frm yur DVD packet (r frm the number the instructr gave yu). It must be the same number that yu activated n the ESRI web site. Click Next. 3
Fill the buttn t authrize additinal extensins, but leave the bxes blank. Click Next. D nt request any evaluatin extensins and click Next again. Just click Next n this panel The authrizatin prcess will begin and will take a minute r tw. When it is finished yu will see the screen belw. Ntice that the tp level entry in the tree n the left panel is highlighted. Yu can check the authrizatin success by clicking n the Availability text in the left panel. Yu will see the screen belw. The basic prduct ArcInf and the extensins shuld all have Yes in bth f the Installed and Authrized clumns and will shw the expiratin date as ne year frm the current date. Yu are finished authrizing the sftware. Click OK t clse. 4
Yu can return t this Administratr prgram at any time t check yur licenses by chsing ArcGIS > ArcGIS Administratr frm yur cmputer s Start menu. Step 3. Test the sftware G t Start n yur cmputer, click All Prgrams, and lk fr the ArcGIS flder. Click n ArcMap 10 t pen it. Wait, as it will take a minute r tw t start the first time. Yu can start using it nw, r clse it and g n with installing the Service Pack. Step 4. Installing Service Pack 5 If yu dn t already have the service pack file, yu can cpy it frm: F:\Dept\gisdata\ArcGIS10 \ArcGISDesktp10sp5.msp. Clse all running prgrams. Duble-click the ArcGISDesktp10sp5.msp file t launch the installer. Fllw all the directins. 5
