1 STIDistrict SQL Database Backup and Restre Creating the Backup T backup the SQL database, perfrm the fllwing steps in the SQL Server Enterprise Manager: Expand the server grup and then expand the server cntaining the desired database. Expand the Databases flder t view the databases in the flder. Right-click n the database t back up and select All Tasks Backup Database, as shwn in the screen sht abve. 2 In the Name bx, type the backup set name. Yu may als enter a descriptin f the backup set in the Descriptin field (ptinal). Under Backup, click Database cmplete. Under Destinatin, select Tape r Disk and specify a backup destinatin. If n backup destinatins appear, click Add t either add an existing destinatin r t create a new ne. Under Overwrite, d ne f the fllwing: Click Append t media if yu wish t attach the backup t a pre-existing backup file n the backup device. Click Overwrite existing media t verwrite (with the new backup file) any existing backups n the backup device. 3 Anther ptinal step: Yu may click the Optins tab and d ne r mre f the fllwing: Select the Verify backup upn cmpletin checkbx t have the backup verified subsequent t its cmpletin. Select the Eject tape after backup checkbx t have the backup tape autmatically ejected after the backup peratin has cmpleted. NOTE: This ptin is nly available when tape backup devices are in use. Select the Check media set name and backup set expiratin checkbx t have the backup media checked t prevent accidental verwrites. In Media set name, type the name f the media t be used fr the backup peratin. Leave the field blank when specifying nly the backup set expiratin. If this is the first usage f the backup media r if yu wish t change an existing media label: Under Media set labels, select the Initialize and label media checkbx. Then type the media set name and media set descriptin in the spaces prvided. The media may be initialized and labeled ONLY when it is verwritten. Click OK t cntinue. 4 Restring the Backup frm Enterprise Manager Open the SQL Server Enterprise Manager n the SQL Server. Click Start Prgrams Micrsft SQL Server Enterprise Manager. Expand the server grup and then expand the desired server. Right-click n the Databases flder, select All Tasks, and then click Restre Database. 5 Use the drp-list at the tp f the windw t chse the database t be restred. In the Restre: sectin: Bullet Database (as shwn in the screen sht abve) if the backup was created up n the lcal cmputer, and then select the name f the database in the field labeled Shw backups f database. 6 Bullet Frm device (as shwn in the screen sht belw) if the backup was nt created n the lcal cmputer. Click Select Device, then bullet either Disk r Tape. Click Add and then select the path t the backup file. Click OK at the next three prmpts t begin the restratin f the database. D an Uplad All frm every schl immediately. If yu are lcated in a state that is using the STIState database (KY r AL), cntact yur state department f educatin t restart replicatin AFTER each schl has upladed all its data int the district database.
