GALEN COLLEGE OF NURSING EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF TAMPA BAY, FLORIDA CAMPUS The Galen College of Nursing invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Director Tampa Bay, Florida Campus. The Executive Director is responsible for managing and motivating a collaborative team of professionals in fostering a campus environment of academic, administrative, and service excellence by promoting the College mission and values and achieving all financial and operational targets. Galen seeks an energetic academic leader who is both practical and flexible to lead the campus into its next phase of growth and development. It will be critical that this leader bring significant administrative experience, strengths in the accreditation processes, facility in engaging faculty, staff, students and the community in dialogue and campus development, and the ability to implement strategic vision for the future. The position will report to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

GALEN BACKGROUND Galen College of Nursing was established in 1989, opening campuses in Louisville, Ky., San Antonio, Texas, and Tampa Bay, Fla. Galen offered practical nursing education until 2005 when it added a registered nurse program in Louisville. In 2007, Galen opened its first new campus in 17 years in Cincinnati, Ohio, offering only associate degrees in Nursing. Galen has since grown to nearly 3,000 students system wide, with over 500 faculty and staff and over 200 clinical afflictions. Currently, there are six campuses in four states: Florida, Kentucky, Ohio, and Texas. The main campus is located in Louisville, Kentucky. The RN program is offered at all campuses, and has been awarded candidacy status by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Commission on Colleges. The Tampa Bay campus has also begun the process for obtaining Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Galen is governed by an independent board of directors including nationally recognized leaders from both traditional and nursing education. Galen s curriculum now provides students with multiple entry options and continued growth and development in the Practical Nursing Program, an Associate of Science in Nursing Degree (LPN to RN) Bridge Program, and/or the Associate of Science in Nursing Degree.

GALEN TAMPA In 2010, the Tampa Bay campus was the first Galen campus to open a high fidelity simulation center as part of a campus wide expansion. Offering the more than 550 students the Practical Nursing Program, the RN program and the LPN to RN Bridge program, Galen Tampa is a very dynamic campus community. Both academic programs offer superior, first time NCLEX pass rates. The state of the art simulation lab equipment is also a major source of pride for the entire campus. The faculty and staff have an open and direct communication process and provide students with multiple opportunities for success support and mentoring. Class sizes are intentionally small and study groups are highly encouraged. A full time student success coordinator provides the student body with ongoing access to support for both academic and personal needs. The student body profile ranges from recent high school graduates to returning veterans from all across the country all of whom are seeking a quality, well respected nursing education. Tampa Bay Area The Tampa Bay Area in Florida, comprised primarily of Tampa and St. Petersburg, has a metropolitan population of more than 4.2 million, making it the second most populous area in Florida and the fourth most in the Southeast United States. The area boasts a range of culture and industry, from a high concentration of quality art museums to top level professional sports to a pair of major military installations.

LEADERSHIP AGENDA FOR THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Strong Academic Vision and Leadership The Executive Director will be expected to be an articulate advocate for the continued growth and development of the Tampa Bay campus, the uniqueness of its culture and student market. The Executive Director will need to be a champion of the solid foundation currently embraced by the campus while also bringing fresh ideas and new initiatives. The Executive Director must be able to address the future academic needs of the students, assist the campus in completing its accreditation processes, while also providing the community with excitement and pride about Galen s role and presence there. The dedicated and well grounded faculty will need a leader whose credentials and experiences are unparalleled and who will support their continued growth and development as well. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provide leadership to enhance and strengthen the campus s academic programs, administrative services, community engagement, fiscal responsibility, human resources, and physical facilities.

2. Establish and maintain a climate which encourages the development and retention of competent personnel, a high level of morale, and achievement of the College s goals. 3. Provide leadership in the implementation of policies and programs in the organizational and educational activities of the campus. 4. Provides leadership supportive of the College mission and vision, student centered services and teaching excellence at all Galen campuses. 5. Promotes the professional development of faculty and staff to ensure their evolving educational competence. 6. Establish and maintain relationships with Main Campus leaders, facilitating communication between Main Campus and Branch Campus leaders. 7. Manage the campus budget to ensure fiscal responsibility and resource allocation is appropriated in direct conjunction with current and future campus needs. 8. Monitor academic program performance and operational effectiveness in accordance with College policies and recommend improvements to the Vice Presidents. 9. Ensure continued compliance with all institutional and program accreditations; federal and state standards, licensures, and approvals. 10. Professionally represent and advance the interests of campus constituents with educators, healthcare professionals, potential employers, and community representatives. DESIRED ATTRIBUTES FOR THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR The successful Executive Director will be: Someone who has initiative, coupled with a sense of competitive drive, and the ability to stay focused on results despite changing conditions. A decision maker who is focused on implementing practical, timely solutions. A leader who is firm and goal oriented, and yet motivates, trains, and involves others in an enthusiastic way. A quick learner who has a strong sense of urgency and recognizes and adapts to change. A person of strong self confidence and self assurance who drives toward results while engaging the commitment of others. A person with a strong commitment and track record for student success. A strong, progressive manager who understands the private college world and will be an ardent advocate for the campus. A person who will foster openness and dialogue between the administration, faculty and staff and be a supportive team leader. A transparent, courageous decision maker who builds consensus, can make difficult choices, and who communicates decisions clearly and effectively. A person who is a strong external communicator and who is willing to take the college s message into the community and be an active participant in civic organizations.
