1 An Invitation to Apply: The University of Tampa College of Natural and Health Sciences: Department of Nursing Tenure Track Nurse Practitioner Faculty Member With Concentration In Care of Older Adults THE SEARCH The Department of Nursing in the College of Natural and Health Sciences at The University of Tampa invites applications, nominations and inquiries for a tenure track faculty for a nurse practitioner with a specialty in care of older adults, starting Spring 2014 or Fall Rank is commensurate with credentials and qualifications. The University of Tampa is a medium-sized comprehensive, private university located on 100 beautiful acres of prime riverfront land in the heart of downtown Tampa. The University is ranked by Princeton Review as a Best College. It is in the top tier of US News and World Reports America s Best Colleges. The Department of Nursing currently consists of undergraduate and graduate nursing programs (Family and Adult/Gerontology Nurse Practitioner), with new programs in development. All faculty are strongly encouraged to practice in their specialty. The programs are fully accredited and passing scores on the NCLEX and national certifications examinations are consistently above 90%. The program is affiliated with over 200 clinical agencies and has a close working relationship with Tampa General Hospital, a nationally ranked trauma center and magnet hospital. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION The responsibilities of the this faculty position include: Teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as assigned. Pursue a program of scholarly activity. Participate in student mentoring and advisement. Provide service to the Department, the College and the University. 1

2 QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications: MSN and PhD or terminal degree in nursing or a related field. Eligibility for licensure and certification as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the state of Florida. At least two (2) years of clinical practice, as a nurse practitioner with a major focus in care of older adults. Evidence of teaching experience in an academic setting. 4 COLLEGE OF NATURAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES 2 The College of Natural and Health Sciences offers rigorous, high quality curricula in biology, marine science, environmental science, chemistry, biochemistry, physics, forensic science, exercise science, public health, allied health, sport management and nursing; all designed to prepare students for challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The College s faculty are excellent teachers, both in the classroom and working with students on an individual basis. UT has invested heavily in the development of the College's teaching and research facilities and laboratories. The College continually fosters relationships with organizations in the greater Tampa Bay area and elsewhere to provide students with the opportunity to pursue an internship, volunteer, or interact with professionals working in their chosen field. Each department also offers study abroad courses that students can take for credit toward their degree. DEPARTMENT OF NURSING Philosophy and Mission Statements The Department of Nursing is an integral component of the University of Tampa and as such embraces the University's commitment to the development of each student to become a productive and responsible citizen, to ensure that students balance "learning by thinking" with "learning by doing." The primary mission of the Department of Nursing is to offer programs of study in nursing science at the undergraduate and graduate levels that prepare nurses as generalists in professional nursing, as nurse practitioners, and as leaders/managers for diverse healthcare settings. The Department of Nursing shares the commitment of the College of Natural and Health Sciences and the University to teaching, research and service; preparing each student as a life-long learner and as a health professional providing quality and compassionate health care to the citizens of Florida, the nation and the global community. Academic Programs Traditional 4-Year BSN Program: The Four-Year BSN degree is designed for students without nursing credit. High school graduates and transfer students first apply to the University by using the regular UT undergraduate admissions application. Students formally apply to the nursing department once all requirements have been met or nearly met. The BSN degree is awarded after successful completion of all nursing course work qualifying the student to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Adult / Gerontology MS in Nursing (MSN) Program: The Master of Science Nursing (MSN) degree offers graduate-level study with adult and family nurse practitioner concentrations that prepare the advanced practice nurse for roles as primary care providers. 5 Clinical Resources The University's active role within the community ensures expanded educational experiences in a wide range of clinical settings. UT nursing students benefit from formal affiliations with more than 200 clinical agencies and practices. This network provides opportunities in a vast array of specialties and settings, including primary care and clinical management roles in pediatrics, adult and family health, geriatrics, women's health, administration, informatics, and education. An advisory board of community leaders and volunteers assists the Department of Nursing with the planning and evaluation of UT's nursing programs. Board members represent agencies in the community, educational institutions, and nursing organizations. Input and feedback from employers of UT graduates helps to invigorate the curriculum and to provide opportunity for enhancement and expansion to meet the needs of the community. Students have access to computer labs across the campus. Tutorials assist in classroom preparation and in simulations prior to actual practical experiences. Videos and computer programs supplement learning experiences. Students can learn and practice health assessment techniques in two state-of-the-art nursing skills labs one at nearby Tampa General Hospital and another located right on campus. Department of Nursing Faculty Profile In Spring 2013 the Department of Nursing faculty comprised 10 tenure-track full-time faculty and 5 clinical instructors. Department of Nursing Student Profile In Spring 2013 the Department of Nursing enrolled approximately 150 undergraduate students in its traditional BSN program and 180 graduate students. Department of Nursing Program Accreditation All University of Tampa nursing programs are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (NLNACEN). The Department of Nursing holds a membership in the Council of Baccalaureate and Higher Degree Programs in the National League for Nursing (NLN). 5
