2 Be a Leader in Adult-Gero Acute Care! An unprecedented shortage of acute care practitioners is becoming critical across the nation. The demand for acute care services is expected to increase significantly by 2020, due to the aging population and the increasing utilization of acute care services. The Baby Boomer generation is retiring in record numbers. This generation is benefitting from advances in diagnosis and treatment of illness by living longer. However, this also results in an increase in severe, life-threatening or chronic illness often requiring acute care services. Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners are prepared specifically to care for the unique needs of aging adults across all acute care settings. Make a difference to patients across the nation by becoming an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with a master s nursing degree from USF! Dianne Morrison-Beedy, PhD, RN, WHNP-BC, FNAP, FAANP, FAAN Senior Associate Vice President, USF Health Dean, College of Nursing Why Adult Gerontology Acute Care? 6 Transform Healthcare, Transform Lives as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner! Congratulation on starting the Adult/Gerontology Acute Care NP program! As president of TBONE, I am confident that the residents of Tampa Bay will embrace this wonderful opportunity to improve the outcomes of patients in acute care settings. The members of the TBONE routinely inquire about the acute care program to fill the positions in the Intensive Care Units, emergency rooms, and other areas that have a great need for advance practice nurses at this level. Denise Maguire, PhD, RN, CNL President, Tampa Bay Organization of Nurse Executives (TBONE) Acutely ill patients increasingly dominate the inpatient population in Tampa. Acute Care Nurse Practitioners are needed to help assess and manage acutely ill patients within the inpatient/hospital setting and across hospital-to-clinic settings, including the emergency department, intensive care unit, specialty labs, acute and step-down units, and specialty clinics. The Acute Care Nurse Practitioners ensure successful transition after discharge and complete resolution of transition needs. Leslie Miller, MD Edward C. Wright Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine Director & CEO, USF Cardiovascular Clinical and Research Integrated Strategic Program The University of South Florida College of Nursing has created an exciting Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Master s Program that could serve as the model for all Adult Gerontology Acute Care programs. There is no other program like it that is currently available. Program graduates are certain to be in great demand in all acute care settings. Linda S. Blasen, MS, ARNP, FNP-BC, ACNP-BC USF College of Nursing
