August 1, 2015 Upper Arlington Crew is proud to bring the sixth annual Blake Haxton Invitational Regatta to Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, October 24, 2015. This invitational features the fastest youth high school and club crews in the rowing community around Ohio and the midwest. The Haxton Invitational is named in honor of Blake Haxton, gifted athlete, and former UA Crew Captain who suffered a devastating illness in 2009. He was expected to die, but through a combination of faith, determination and the support of his family, friends and community, Blake survived. Today Blake continues to be part of the UA Crew community as an assistant coach for the men s team. Most recently Blake returned to the sport he loves through adaptive rowing. Last summer Blake competed in the National Rowing Championship where he took first place and as a part of Team USA in the World Rowing Championship, where he nearly took the bronze medal. This annual regatta celebrates the Blake s determination and drive through rowing athleticism, team spirit and community. US Rowing recently featured an article on Blake (a copy is included in this packet) which tells you more about this amazing man. Upper Arlington Crew would like you to join with the community in supporting this outstanding annual event. Various sponsorship opportunities are available to individuals, businesses, and organizations. Donations and in-kind gifts are also accepted with appreciation. Sponsorships will be available through October 1, 2015. Further details are outlined in the enclosed sponsorship package. Upper Arlington Crew, Inc. is a qualified 501c (3), tax exempt organization and donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. A WORD FROM COACH SWARTZ Please join with me and the rest of our tremendous parent group and make the Haxton Invitational Regatta as special as its namesake. - Coach Chris Swartz On behalf of the Haxton family and UA Crew, I would like to introduce you to the 2015 Blake Haxton Invitational Regatta. I have been in the rowing business for 45 years, been coaching for 36 years and been coaching at UA for almost 21 years. In all that time, I have never coached an athlete that has as much ability or drive than Blake Haxton. He is one in a million and holds a very special place in my heart. Because of that, I made it my focus to honor his rowing tenure at UA with a race dedicated in his honor. I also wanted to make sure that this would be different from other regattas. It would focus on the true spirit of competition. Getting the fastest crews together to push each other is the essence of this sport. Blake knows that and so do I. So, once again, we want to highlight the best crews in the Midwest. This event is focused on the very heart of competitive rowing great competition. I am asking for your help as sponsors, participants and volunteers to make this one of the finest racing experiences you have attended. I also am asking for your indulgence in allowing this to be about the kids racing fast crews, and hopefully being among that special group. Please join with me, our coaching staff and our tremendous parent group and make the 2014 Blake Haxton Invitational as special as its namesake. Thank you for allowing us to work with your kids. It is a pleasure and a privilege for all of the coaches at UA Crew. 2
