The successful candidate will work with the T Services Manager and infrastructure specialists, within the TL framework, to provide infrastructure support and ensure the successful delivery of changes or new initiatives in relation to the T infrastructure. This will include assisting with the monitoring, maintenance, development, testing and effective operation of key aspects of the core software systems used within the University T infrastructure. The postholder will also act as part of the team providing 3 rd line technical support for the T support service. Working closely with the T Services Manager in a small team, the postholder will assist in evaluating risks and impacts associated with proposed changes to ensure that all changes to the T infrastructure are designed, tested and deployed effectively. They will also develop and document policies, procedures, standards, training and guidance relating to key operations required to deliver the T Services Management plan. pplicants must have in-depth experience of the maintenance and administration of Windows Server 2012 core systems including DNS and DHCP and ctive Directory. Experience in the administration Hyper-V, SQL Server, Microsoft SCOM and Citrix XenDesktop would be advantageous. Hours of work will be 35 hours per week, normally 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday, with some evening and weekend work required. Working within the TL framework to act as a part of the team providing 3 rd line of technical support for the T support service. 2. To assist the 3 rd Line nfrastructure Specialists with the monitoring, maintenance, development, testing and effective operation of key aspects of the core software systems used within the University T infrastructure, including but not limited to: Wired & Wireless Network support SN storage and backup Physical server environment Windows Server 2008 utomation and monitoring systems (SCOM and SCCM) Email (Exchange 2010) Virtual servers (Hyper-V) Virtual desktop infrastructure (Citrix XenDesktop) SQL Server ctive Directory and its requisite systems (DNS, DHCP etc.)
Cloud services (e.g. Office 365) 3. To assist with the development of maintenance and upgrade plans to ensure that systems are at the most appropriate supported levels and are working at their optimum. 4. To work outside of normal office hours to complete system and server maintenance tasks. 5. To contribute towards University T Security policies and procedures. 6. ssist with periodic information systems risk assessments including those associated with the development of new or significantly enhanced business applications. 7. To manage and contribute to departmental projects and those of other departments within recognised project control mechanisms such as Prince2. 8. To prioritise and balance project and support work by the assessment of the critical nature of incidents and with awareness of project plans. 9. To work under the guidance of the T Services Manager to respond appropriately to monitored events and to make critical decisions regarding the support and maintenance of the systems within the post holder s areas of responsibility. 10. Ensure that all systems, changes and incidents are appropriately documented and these are maintained. 11. To work under the guidance of the T Services Manager to develop and document all the key policies, procedures, standards, training and guidance relating to key operations required to deliver the University T Services Management Plan, ensuring they are regularly reviewed and updated. 12. To support Corporate System Owners and the T Services Developer in the development and maintenance of applications and integration systems to meet the strategic needs of the University. To ensure application availability meets the performance standards set by the University. 13. To work with the T Services Manager to design, document implement and test Disaster Recover and Business Continuity plans. 14. To assist the T Services Manager to evaluate risks & impacts associated with proposed changes to ensure all changes to the University T nfrastructure are designed, tested and deployed within agreed SL s and with the minimum disruption to the services provided. 15. To assist the T Services Manager and the rest of the 3 rd line support team in carrying out their role as System Design uthority for the University s T nfrastructure, designing new concepts and initiatives in line with business requirements. 16. To ensure that departmental equipment is performing to the required standard. Report and monitor on the capacity, sustainability and the availability of the T infrastructure in order to meet the agreed Service Levels defined in SLs. To liaise with suppliers of T services as required. 17. To evaluate and demonstrate new technologies as directed and to provide guidance on their adoption, where appropriate. 18. To have an active role in workshop and group sessions to assist users to get the maximum out of the University T Systems.
19. To develop and maintain specialist knowledge in current and future infrastructure systems and technologies, with a particular focus on information security developments, in a Higher Education context. 20. To ensure that timely and high quality information relating to service incidents and requests is communicated to colleagues and stakeholders using the appropriate mechanisms, and to produce timely periodic reports as needed 21.
