1 JOB DESCRIPTION Information Technology Division Information Systems Administrator Position: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, permanent Contract/Grade: Grade 5/6 $42, $56, 585 INTRODUCTION CPIT is one of New Zealand s largest tertiary education institutions. 2 PRIME FUNCTION/PURPOSE OF THE JOB To provide IT technical support and advice, focused on maximizing staff productivity, organizational efficiency and benefits from the effective use and application of information technology. This will largely be achieved by ensuring optimal implementation, monitoring, management, support, upgrade and maintenance of server side systems, including application, database and web servers. DELEGATED AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES Financial: None Human Resources: Level 600 of the HR Delegations Schedule Other: None PROFESSIONAL PROFILE ESSENTIAL Education/Qualifications/Knowledge: An appropriate tertiary qualification in Information Technology or equivalent. PREFERRED Certified Microsoft Engineer Experience/Skills Experience with support of business applications running on both Windows and Linux server operating systems. Proven customer service skills and dedication to delivering quality service. Knowledge of web environments Apache and IIS. Experience in the support of enterprise applications such as Finance, HR, Websphere Application server and Oracle Application server. Experience in the support of a range database management systems such as MS SQLserver, DB2, Oracle and MySQL. Familiarity with Sharepoint administration. Knowledge of Microsoft SCCM, SCOM etc. Personal Attributes: Good written and oral communication skills. Effectiveness in presenting a message in a meaningful form to persuade and influence others A personal discipline in the effective use of effort and time An ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines An ability to respond appropriately to different situations, people and ideas. Personal need to achieve the objectives and reach successful conclusion. Drive to accomplish results. Willingness to work helpfully with others and to be involved and share activities Concerned with the delivery of a quality service to the customer. 3 KEY FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Internal Close relationships with IT Infrastructure team: to obtain necessary ICT resources for systems support. IT Service Centre team: to provide high-level of support in desktop and application projects as required. Liaise with other IT staff to ensure optimum system performance and reliability, and in the development and execution of ICT projects. Liaise with staff at all levels within the organisation on effective application and use of enterprise systems and databases. Key users of enterprise applications, including management, academic and administrative staff: to identify new projects and manage change as well as advising on usage of systems. To provide specialist technical support for academic staff in preparing teaching resources e.g. advice on ICT technologies, assistance with implementation of new technologies requiring server resources. Preparation of reports on areas of functional expertise for consideration by management. External Appropriate liaison with vendors on computer hardware, software, MIS systems and specialist application issues. To maintain contacts with other educational institutes on application technology practices and initiatives of common interest. Keep abreast of IT industry trends and developments by updating Industry qualifications and reading appropriate literature. KEY TASKS AND EXPECTED RESULTS Key Tasks Expected Results Monitor and maintain Enterprise systems. Administer Enterprise Applications Undertake testing of systems to system specifications, working parameters and user requirements. Undertake deployment of internally and externally developed software into production in accordance with change control processes. Inform ICT staff of any new applications or supporting infrastructure and the impact of such changes to manage change and to ensure systems are effectively supported. Contribute to the development of documentation of system configurations and procedures. Test implementation of upgrades and changes prior to production release so that change is managed.

4 Systems and technologies managed by the team include, but are not limited to: Learning Management System Moodle HR Information System - Talent2 Alesco (Oracle application and database) Business process automation - IBM WebSphere Process Server (Linux, WAS, DB2, clustered and load balanced) Data warehousing - IBM DataStage, Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Reporting Services. Finance - Kypera Financials. Desktop-application licensing servers FlexLM, HASP and other license enforcement technologies. Banking systems web-based BNZ system and modem-based ANZ banking. Job ticketing system Infra Ionix Service. Timetabling Syllabus Plus. Facilities management BEIMS. Print management servers Konica Minolta management. Web Content Management MySource Matrix Document management Xerox DocuShare Collaboration and content management - Microsoft SharePoint. Server side infrastructure supporting the desktop deployment environment on MED-V/Terminal Services, Microsoft SCCM and App-V. Numerous LAMP and Microsoft IIS servers. Standard dbms is Microsoft SQLserver, however, Oracle, DB2, Postgres and MySQL also supported. Most servers are on VMWare vsphere infrastructure with SAN disk allocation Administer systems for performance and availability Monitor systems for performance to agreed business expectations or beyond. Monitor and report on system and database backups to ensure they appropriately configured, implemented and verified to enable recovery from failure. Undertake appropriate updates and testing. Identify and assist in troubleshooting errors and faults. Assist with implementation of system patches and updates. Manage upgrades effectively and to user requirements. Monitor and maintain appropriate security environments and policies. Systems will include Windows and Linux servers. Windows and Linux administration with appropriate scripting may be required for administrative tasks. Maintain established testing and development environments.

5 Application Monitoring and Support Pro-active monitoring of log files, resource utilization Monitor and report on errors and trends. and other pertinent factors Server side application support Support for server side applications e.g. Finance, HRIS, Websphere and Oracle application server based applications, web server based applications etc. This support is focused on the server side of multi-tier applications with close liaison with appropriate desktop specialists for client side issues. Escalation will be to internal development staff or vendors. o Issues are only escalated following thorough diagnosis. o Issues are clearly documented prior to escalation. Contribute to and participate in Information Systems team initiatives Participate in multidiscipline ICT initiatives Provide input to system and database performance and management. As required, participate in project development. Provide project plans, documentation and training material as necessary. Contribute to team activities and complete assigned tasks within prescribed deadlines. To implement standards and keep in touch with other technical developments Contribute to the development and implementation of technology standards. Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery processes are maintained Undertake appropriate IT technical research and investigation. Standards applied for support of systems and databases. Contribute to the review of business continuity processes and procedures. Processes and procedures implemented. Keep up to date with notifications of any updates and upgrades to systems mentioned above. Keep to date with general technical knowledge of ICT industry. Due to the unique nature of the work, there is a requirement for IT staff to work outside of core hours to undertake system operation activities. Employment Terms and Conditions Appointment is within the terms of employment law and the TIASA Collective Employment Agreement For the first 30 days of employment CPIT is legally required to employ staff on the terms and conditions of the TIASA Collective Agreement which covers the position offered. If the staff member joins the TIASA union the terms of the collective document continue to apply; should he/she decide not to join the union, the staff member remains on an individual agreement and we may mutually- agree to terms after the 30-day period expires. CPIT's Allied Staff Collective Employment Agreement (01 April March 2009) will be offered in the first instance. A job evaluation system is used to determine the grade and therefore the salary range for this position. It is usual to appoint at the lower end of the appointment range specified in the position description. 6.
