1 Leeds Beckett University Job Description Ref: ITS291278A Faculty/Service Section Post Designation Information Technology Services (ITS) Technology Services Infrastructure Application Services Specialist Grade 6 Post to which directly responsible Posts for which directly responsible Purpose of Job Head of Infrastructure Application Services N/A This post is responsible for the support, maintenance, upgrade, patching and on-going development of specific University applications and database services through the adoption of best practise IT Service Management principles, together with participating in the production of high quality and fit for purpose design and development proposals required to support new projects and initiatives related to specific IT Infrastructure application services including server-based systems, associated database systems and other computing infrastructure, systems and services. This will include the analysis of requirements, service design proposals, specification, evaluation and purchase of hardware and software, and promotion of services and service management. Responsibilities 1. Responsible for the support, maintenance, upgrade and on-going development of University IT infrastructure application services, including server-based systems, associated database systems and other computing infrastructure, systems and services. 2. Responsible for providing a customer focused 2nd line application and database support service, managing and resolving incidents/faults and recommending improvements to mitigate future incidents where appropriate utilising best practise IT Service Management principles. 3. Work closely with key stakeholders with regards to the support and management of University IT infrastructure systems and services, understanding the key stakeholder s and our University needs and requirements, so as to ensure we deliver a high quality, customer focused service to our customers. 4. Implementation of monitoring, diagnostic and management systems and procedures for the IT infrastructure applications. 5. Participate in developing and delivering the technical direction, standards and policies for IT infrastructure systems and services. 6. Analysis of University requirements for specific IT infrastructure application services, including serverbased systems, associated database systems and other computing infrastructure, systems and services, working closely with key stakeholders to understand their needs and requirements. 7. Participate in the production of high quality and fit for purpose design and development proposals of specific University IT infrastructure application services, including server-based systems, associated database systems and other computing infrastructure, systems and services, required to support new projects and initiatives. 8. Software and hardware requirements specification and evaluation, including where appropriate liaison with suppliers 9. Creation and documentation of standards and procedures for the maintenance, operation and customer use of IT infrastructure application systems and services. 10. Work closely and collaboratively with team colleagues, Infrastructure Operations team, Network Services team and other ITS teams to ensure the seamless delivery of new and existing infrastructure

2 application services to our customers, assisting in the delivery of their projects, intiatives, developments and other activities. 11. Co-ordinates the activities of other Infrastructure Applications staff, where appropriate. 12. Horizon scanning for opportunities to enhance the delivery of ITS related services to university students, staff and stakeholders. 13. Ensuring compliance with appropriate legislative requirements including licensing, data protection and copyright. 14. Conduct all financial matters associated with the role in accordance with the University s policies and procedures, as laid down in the Financial Regulations. 15. Undertake continuous personal and professional development. The post holder will be expected to be flexible in supporting the strategic objectives of ITS by undertaking any responsibilities which are commensurate with this grade. Physical Conditions You will be based at the Headingley Campus, in the first instance. Relationships You will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues across ITS as well as with a range of stakeholders across our University. Terms & Conditions Terms & Conditions of Service are as determined by the Vice-Chancellor for Support staff (within a framework set by the Board of Governors), and will have regard to any national recommendations arising from negotiations between the Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA), and the recognised trade unions in so far as these are adopted by the Board / Vice-Chancellor. Salary is currently within Grade 6 ( 32,277 to 36,309). On appointment staff will normally be placed on the first point of the substantive grade for the post. Appointment above this will only be on an exceptional basis and subject to approval in line with our University s Pay Policy. Annual leave entitlement begins at 38 days. Hours of work per week = 37. Probationary Period Appointment to this position may be subject to a probationary period of up to 12 months, in line with the University s probationary policy. Qualifications, Skills, Experience & Knowledge 1. Evidence of a Degree or equivalent qualification in related subject or experience and knowledge of working in a similar role in a complex organisation. 2. Experience of being responsible for configuring, operating and maintaining server-based systems, database systems and other computing infrastructure, ensuring the successful delivery and ongoing operation of systems and services. 3. Able to demonstrate a good knowledge of server-based technologies, database technologies and other computing infrastructure and understanding how these impact on core applications. 4. Evidence of being able to produce high quality and fit for purpose design and development proposals related to IT infrastructure application services, including server-based systems, associated database systems and other computing infrastructure.
