1 Elementary Readiness Program Kindergarten Readiness The purpose of this class is to provide extra skill development for pre-kindergarten children before they enter a formal grouplearning environment. Kindergarten Readiness will be held Monday through Thursday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM the weeks of June 8, 15, 22 and July 6, 13. Transportation to school will be your responsibility. Instructional materials will be provided by the school district at no cost to families. Kindergarten Readiness will be offered at the following elementary schools: Clayton, Coolidge, Hoover, Lakeview, Roosevelt, Spring Road, Taft, Tullar, and Wilson. First Grade Readiness This is a class for current Kindergarten students who need additional readiness skills prior to entering first grade. Instruction will emphasize reading math, and other readiness skills needed for success in first grade. Examples of skills that will be emphasized are phonetic spelling, journal writing, addition and subtraction, number identification to 100, reading leveled books, high frequency words, word families, rhyming, and counting by 1 s, 2 s, 5 s, and 10 s. First Grade Readiness will be held Monday through Thursday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM the weeks of June 8, 15, 22 and July 6, 13. Transportation to school will be your responsibility. Elementary Summer Academy Program Reading Academy and Math Academy The purpose of Summer Reading Academy is to provide reading instruction for students entering grades two through five whose reading achievement scores are below grade level. Students entering grades 2 and 3 are eligible if their reading achievement scores are one-half year or more below grade level. Students entering grades 4 and 5 are eligible if their reading achievement scores are one year or more below grade level. Each class period will be 90 minutes per day. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM, and will meet the weeks of June 8, June 15, June 22, July 6, and July 13. These classes are offered at the following elementary schools: Clayton, Coolidge, Hoover, Lakeview, Roosevelt, Spring Road, Taft, Tullar and Wilson. Students are enrolled in Reading Academy courses by teacher recommendation and parent permission only. The purpose of Summer Mathematics Academy is to provide mathematics instruction to students entering grades two through five whose math achievement scores are below grade level. Students are eligible for Mathematics Academy if they are six months or more below grade level in math achievement. Each class period will be 90 minutes per day. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM, and will meet the weeks of June 8, June 15, June 22, July 6, and July 13. These classes are offered at the following elementary schools: Clayton, Coolidge, Hoover, Lakeview, Roosevelt, Spring Road, Taft, Tullar and Wilson. Students are enrolled in Reading Academy courses by teacher recommendation and parent permission only. Elementary Enrichment Summer School ART ACROSS THE WORLD Experience art forms from across the globe! We will learn about different cultures through their art forms. We will be using a variety of art tools and techniques including paint, clay, wood, yarn, and paper mache! *Please bring an art smock, water bottle, and a snack every day. 2 SUUUPER HANDS Did you know that your hands can be used for many things, even to communicate? Did you know it s possible to talk with your hands and not use your voice? Come and learn the art of American Sign Language! Be able to talk to your friends across the room, in a noisy restaurant, even under water! Better yet, be able to talk with your deaf friends! Learn how by taking, Suuuper Hands sign up now! When: 1-5, current school year Kristy Burroughs UKE CAN DO IT! Have you ever wanted to learn the ukulele? Well now Uke Can Do It! Learn the basic strumming patterns and chords. (Ukuleles will be provided to use or feel free to bring your own.) Have fun singing, playing along, learning about great uke performers and some ukulele history. There will be plenty of music finger breaks throughout the course while learning music fundamentals. This course builds daily on the new skills learned and daily attendance is strongly encouraged. Those wanting to review their forgotten ukulele skills are also welcome. Learning is fun on the ukulele! Be a star singing songs around the campfire throughout the summer. Uke Can Do It! 3-5, current school year Heather Shebesta ACT UP! Act Up will give students the opportunity to discover and explore their creative ability and develop a strong sense of confidence through the performing arts. Students will be able to practice and perform monologues and small skits. We will work on acting skills, projection, reactions, public speaking, and much more. If you love acting and performing, this class is for you! Students will demonstrate what they have learned by performing a play at the conclusion of summer school. Teachers: Bethany Anderson LIFETIME WELLNESS Do you want to improve your fitness this summer? Do you want to learn new games to play and stay active? Well then this class is perfect for you. Students will learn and play different lifetime activities such as disc golf, badminton, tennis, bowling, Ultimate Frisbee, and much more. Students will perform various fitness tests and measure their improvement. Basic nutrition concepts will also be covered so students can learn to eat healthy. Brad Brookins NOW EAT THIS Now Eat This is an exciting class where students daily work is rewarded with deliciousness! Whether you love to cook, or never have, you ll enjoy learning how to prepare and make easy, delicious, and nutritious snacks, appetizers, and even meals. In this hands-on class students will chop-peel- n-cook a new recipe to share with their families each day. Come and learn by experience; the only requirement for this class is a positive attitude! Students will also learn about how to find the nutritional value of the foods they create. Come be a part of the fun!

3 Cathy Johnson TRAVELING CARE-A-VAN Do you love to help others and have fun at the same time? Do you want to make a difference in many people s lives? Join this class for a chance to travel everyday to a new destination to help others in need! Students will learn the value of volunteering and community service through numerous different service projects and group reflections. Traveling Care-A-Van destinations may include local food pantries, nursing homes and assisted living facilities, humane societies, and many more. Steph Levine JR. VISUAL ARTS ACADEMY Spend an exciting week with paint, clay, technology, and much more! Students have adventurous experiences looking at art and artists, talking about art careers, and making art. The Jr. Visual Arts Academy is presented by a team of certified Neenah Joint School District Art Teachers. Monday through Friday, July 27-31, 2015, 8:00 AM 3:00 PM at Neenah High School. A $45 materials fee will be charged for the Jr. Visual Arts Academy. 1-8, current school year 8:00 AM 3:00 PM Brenda Mullard, Amy Michaels, Trisha Benbo, Ryan Anderson, and Maggie Weyenberg EV3 FIRST LEGO LEAGUE ROBOTICS! Learn how to build and assemble a robot using EV3 Lego Mindstorm programming blocks including building a robot that is capable of driving around an obstacle course, or have your robot draw geometric shapes, or choose to attach a sensors to help your robot climb a tough terrain or complete a task such as picking up and sorting Legos by color and much more! We will also discuss and look at some video coverage of the latest mind blowing robotic technology. FIRST Lego League Core Values and related activities will also be shared. The eight day course will conclude with students creating their own original challenge or selecting an activity they would like to attempt with their robot. Interested students may also apply to be on a FIRST Lego League Team Competition which begins in late August-November (FIRST Lego League competitive teams are dependent on community volunteers as stipulated in FIRST Lego League competitive rules). Ages: 9-13 (This is a FIRST Lego League age requirement.) EV3 Robotics Section A 8:00-11:30 meets June 8, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18! EV3 Robotics Section B 12:00-3:30 meets June 8, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18! EV3 Robotics Section C 8:00-11:30 meets June 22, 23, 24, 25, 29, 30, July 1, 2! EV3 Robotics Section D 12:00-3:30 meets June 22, 23, 24, 25, 29, 30, July 1, 2! Teachers: Valerie Cleveland, Lois Hellweg, and Jennifer Wunrow-Lemke TBD; working on outside funding Engineering Exploration Summer STEM Program Students will be introduced to the 12 step engineering process and have an opportunity to design and create their own puzzle cube. Using snap blacks and several kinds of grid paper they will learn about sketching in perspective and multi-view drawings. Students will be able to mix their own polymer compounds and the evaluate them using several test methods. In addition, students will explore the structure and function of materials while solving design challenges. They will utilize simple drawings and test data to evaluate potential solutions. Finally student will participate in several engineering challenges to put their creativity and knowledge to work, including the Egg Drop, Marble Roller Coaster, Paddleboat, Zip-Line and Structures. 4 Skills for School Success Horace Mann Middle School Skills for School Success is a course that emphasizes the development of study skills. Students will be able to see how study skills can be used in the classroom on a daily basis. Study skills include note taking, organization, test preparation, predicting, summarizing and others. Math Support This course offers students additional drill and practice in working with decimals and fractions. Students will work in groups organized around student proficiencies and needs. Reading Support Horace Mann Middle School This course will address the needs of students who are experiencing reading difficulties. This support will be helpful for underachieving students who have a tendency to regress in their reading development during the summer. Math Skills Online Open to: Current Grades 5, 6, 7 Students Local Neenah Joint School District Home Elementary School This course utilizes an online student management system as well as an online math program to allow students an opportunity to work on math skills at home. Students are required to meet, face-to-face, one time each week with a certified teacher to review concepts and have questions answered. These meetings take place at the local home elementary school. Introduction to Algebra Review Section 3 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM, June 8-11, 15-18, 22-25, and July 6-9, and This course gives students a chance to review the Introduction to Algebra curriculum. This is a great opportunity for students to maintain or regain the algebra skills prior to taking an Algebra class. Introduction to Algebra Enrichment Section 3 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM, June 8-11, 15-18, 22-25, and July 6-9, and Open to: Current Grades 7 and 8 Students This course is a condensed Introduction to Algebra course. This gives students who are currently showing solid math ability a chance to make a jump to Algebra next year. Middle School Enrichment Courses

5 Strength and Conditioning Schedule: Section 1 7:00 AM - 8:15 AM, M/W/Th, June 8-11, 15-18, 22-25, and July 6-9, 13-16, Section 2 8:15 AM 9:30 AM, M/W/Th, June 8-11, 15-18, 22-25, and July 6-9,13-16, Section 3 9:30 AM - 10:45 PM, M/W/Th, June 8-11, 15-18, 22-25, and July 6-9, 13-16, Horace Mann Middle School Strength and conditioning is a comprehensive program, consisting of student form, strength, speed, agility, and flexibility. The focus is first, to introduce strength training form and technique and secondly start to develop their body s into a stronger and more explosive unit. Introduction to World Language Schedule: Section 1 11:00 AM-12:00 PM, June 8-11, 15-18, 22-25, and July 6-9, and Open to: Current Grades 5 and 6 Students This class is designed to give beginning language learners an activity-centered approach to learning about the Spanish language and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. Through communication tasks, presentations, songs, games and projects, students will incorporate basic greetings and useful vocabulary into a language portfolio. Beginning Band Schedule: Section 1 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM, M-Th, June and Section 2 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM, M-Th, June 8-11 and Open to: Current Grades 6 and 7 Students This class will allow students who are new to band to get a head start on learning the basic skills of playing an instrument. Beginning Orchestra Schedule: Section 1 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM, M-Th, June and Section 2 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM, M-Th, June 8-11 and Open to: Current Grades 6 and 7 Students This class will allow students who are new to orchestra to get a head start on learning the basic skills of playing an instrument. Experience Middle School Show Choir Schedule: Section 1 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM, June Open to: Current Grades 5, 6 and 7 Students Do you like to sing and dance? The high school Act II show choir is offering a one-week show choir experience for all incoming 6-8th graders. We will learn a couple of pop songs that we will sing and dance to. Magic of the Green Screen Section 2 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM, June 8-11, 15-18, 22-25, and July 6-9,13-16 and Learn how to use green screen technology to create and showcase your own creative videos. Participants are strongly encouraged to have and bring his or her own ipad or Apple device. Comic Book Graphics and Design Schedule: Section 1 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM, June 8-11, 15-18, 22-25, and July 6-9,13-16 Have you ever wondered how artists create and showcase their own comic book designs? Well, then this is

6 the course for you. During the class, students will design, create and showcase their own comic book creation. Cool Math Concepts for Middle School Students Schedule: Section 1 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM, June 8-11, 15-18, 22-25, and July 6-9,13-16 Learn how to apply and use math concepts beyond the traditional classroom worksheets and workbooks. See how math impacts our daily life through hands on math application. Middle School Drama Experience Schedule: Section 1 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM, July This weeklong experience will allow students an opportunity to see how a musical performance is put together. Students will learn about what happens behind the scenes as well as learn how the magic unfolds on stage. In the end students will showcase their own mini-drama performance. EV3 FIRST LEGO LEAGUE ROBOTICS! A typical daily schedule includes rehearsal, sectional, master class, comprehensive musicianship, personal enrichment activities, social interaction, and a snack break. The week culminates with a final concert on Friday, June 12 in Pickard Auditorium on the Neenah High School campus.
