1 College Prep Summer Programs For High School Students IN STATE: UCLA Summer Scholars 4/1/2013 A limited number of full and partial scholarships are available to qualified California high school students for summer study at UCLA. If you are a California high school student, you may apply for financial assistance to support enrollment in a single lower division academic course or to cover program fees for one of the following summer institutes for high school students: Acting and Performance Institute Art Institute Dance-Theater Intensive Design Media Arts Institute Global/Green Business Week for Young Leaders International Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs: Model United Nations Mock Trial Institute Nanoscience Lab Sci Art NanoLab Teen ArchStudio Students who will enter a college or university in Fall 2012 are not eligible and should inquire about financial aid at the school they will attend. USC 4/1/2013 The college immersion program offers high school students university experience in a subject area of their choice. Courses are interactive, engaging and challenging, allowing students to explore new areas of study or build on their high school coursework. Choose from over 20 courses in a variety of subject areas. Benefit from academic instruction and support from faculty and staff. Receive 3 units of USC elective credit upon successful completion of the 4-Week course. Courses are designed to be both challenging and engaging. Depending on the specific course, you may expect group work, hands-on lab experience, field trips, guest speakers and/or an encompassing final project. Each student may register for only one course, as each course requires 6 to 7 hours of instruction per day; you won t have time for more than one. In addition to the academic experience, students will explore the USC campus, attend social activities and participate in excursions throughout Los Angeles. Residential students living on campus experience a unique preview of college life, living in the same residence halls and eating in the same dining facilities as USC undergraduates. Students may also choose the commuter option.
2 Summer At Stanford 3/1/2013 Stanford s High School Summer College provides academic, social, and intellectual opportunities that cannot be found in a high school classroom. All program participants build their own schedule of challenging college-level courses that will be documented on an official Stanford University transcript. Credit earned may be transferable to other colleges and universities. Students in the program interact with peers from across the U.S. and around the world while sampling the unique recreational activities available on campus and in the culturally rich San Francisco Bay Area. These diverse and interesting academic and extracurricular offerings provide many occasions for personal growth, enjoyment, and the opportunity to develop memorable friendships. We encourage interested students to apply for Summer 2013! Program OTIS College of Art and Design College Preparatory Program Website Deadline To Apply for Financial 4/30/2013 This intensive, four-week, pre-college program is for individuals 15 and older who wish to study at one of the top art and design colleges in the country. Serious young artists seeking to strengthen and enhance their art skills as well as students with limited art training are invited to participate. Summer of Art is not suited for students in search of a recreational program. Small classes ensure personalized, in-depth learning. Rigorous course work includes hands-on studio classes and labs in both a chosen Area of Concentration (three days per week) and Foundation Studio (two days per week). Courses meet 9:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday and include homework. 3 units of college credit are awarded upon successful completion of the program. (Note: Summer of Art is not suited for students in search of a recreational program.) UCI Summer Scholar Program 4/1/2013 Through the UCI Summer Scholar Program, you will discover new interests, develop strategies for dealing with the intense and unique demands of a college career, and explore the unlimited potential that you possess. In addition to earning grades for college courses, participants who complete the program will also receive a special certificate of completion that can be added to their resume. Designed especially for college-bound high school students, the Summer Scholar Program at UC Irvine provides outstanding high school students with the opportunity to experience college study and preview freshman year through a variety of course subject areas and co-curricular activities. Summer Scholar students will explore new areas of study or build upon their current course of study, earn college
3 credits, and move ahead of other college-bound students, all during five short weeks in the summer. In addition to the academic experience, you will have the opportunity to gain a unique preview of college life by engaging in a full set of Summer Scholar Signature Events that will give you an inside perspective into the UCI campus. You will also attend social activities, make new friends, and interact with Summer Scholar Mentors who are current UCI undergraduate students eager to show you their campus! California State Summer School for the Arts 2/28/2013 The California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) is a rigorous pre-professional training program in the visual and performing arts, creative writing, animation, and film for talented artists of high school age. CSSSA provides a supportive environment in which students hone acquired skills and explore new techniques and ideas for an intense and exciting learning experience. Its purpose is to provide a training ground for future artists who wish to pursue careers in the arts and entertainment industries in California. COSMOS 2/22/2013 California State Summer School for Math and Science COSMOS is an intensive four-week summer residential program for students with a demonstrated aptitude for academic and professional careers in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Talented and motivated students completing grades 8-12 have the opportunity to work with renowned faculty, researchers, and scientists in state-of-the-art facilities while exploring advanced STEM topics far beyond the courses usually offered in California high schools. Through challenging curriculum that is both hands-on and lab intensive, COSMOS fosters its students interests, skills, and awareness of educational and career options in STEM fields. Chapman University 3/15/2013 Summer Film Academy For two weeks students are immersed in the world of film through class discussions, film screenings, guest speakers, fieldtrips, and filmmaking in small groups. They live, breathe and eat filmmaking around the clock while being taught by Chapman faculty who are industry professionals and mentored by current Dodge

All of this will be shared with their peers as they work in groups to complete projects to create short digital, narrative projects which are showcased to parents and relatives on the final night of the program in our 500-seat Folino Theater. NYU Summer 4/1/2013 NYU Precollege offers rising high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to experience academic and student life at New York University. Students take college level courses for academic credit which may be applied to a future degree. Residential and non-residential options are available. Participants take credit-bearing courses with current college students. Additionally students have the opportunity to participate in free noncredit workshops taught by NYU's distinguished writing experts. The workshops offer students an opportunity to enhance writing skills and focus on college-level writing. Outside the classroom, NYU Precollege offers workshops regarding the college admissions and application process, as well as a variety of on- and off-campus social events and activities. NYU Precollege allows outstanding high school students to get a taste of college while still having time to work, volunteer, and enjoy the summer vacation. 6 Carleton Liberal Arts 4/01/2013 Experience CLAE is a week-long program for rising juniors introduces the benefits of a liberal arts education through an array of courses in science, art, social sciences, and technology.
