1 CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS A Tri-Heights Consortium Member Career and Technical Education Programs The Career Tech Program provides students with practical, handson experience and certification opportunities. The daily program consists of extended periods that provide in-depth instruction and time for students to learn and practice skills. The Career and Technical Education Program is a good choice for a wants to start a career after high school plans to attend a two- or four-year college wants to earn certification in career areas before graduating Most of the programs prepare students for a certification test and/or award college credits for successful completion of the course. For students who want to enter the work force right after high school, the Career and Technical Education Program offers real world work experience and, in some programs, ample employment opportunities. Pharmacy, computer networking technicians and nurse assistant positions are increasingly in demand. Many students use the CTE program to get a head start on a career before attending college. The practical applications of the CTE program can help students understand what is expected in the work place. Applying to the Career and Technical Education Program Individual programs may have the following qualifying requirements: enrollment in a CH-UH small school, regular school attendance history, tuberculosis test, pre-requisite credits and an established grade point average or an instructor interview. Tri-Heights Career Prep Consortium The Tri-Heights Career Prep Consortium is a collaboration among the Cleveland Heights-University Heights, Warrensville Heights and the Shaker Heights school districts. Students in these districts may apply to the program. 2 R.E.A.L. EARLY COLLEGE A John Carroll University Partnership R.E.A.L. Early College High School The R.E.A.L. Early College High School is a special collaboration between the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District and John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio. During their first two years of high school, students take accelerated courses in science, social studies, math and English. During their third and fourth years, students can qualify to attend John Carroll University and earn both high school and college credit. R.E.A.L. Early College High School is a good choice for a can work independently in a rigorous and accelerated academic program and master his/ her high school core content requirements within two years wants to gain early college admission and earn up to 30 hours of college credits before high school graduation The R.E.A.L. School experience is divided into two phases. During their 9th and 10th grades, students take courses in, and must demonstrate mastery (90% or higher) of, the core subject areas of science, math, social studies and English. Students must have the ability to work independently, as well as in group settings, and complete performance tasks that reflect mastery in each core subject area. During this phase, students are introduced to John Carroll University through campus tours, visits to student support centers and participation in campus life activities. During their 11th and 12th grades, students can take courses both on the John Carroll University campus and at Cleveland Heights High School. They have the option to take general education college courses in the social and natural sciences and the humanities. During these two years, students also complete their high school requirements in areas such as physical education, art and foreign language. After four years in the R.E.A.L. Early College program, students receive a high school diploma and accumulate up to 30 hours of college credits from John Carroll University. An application is required to participate in the R.E.A.L. Early College program. The application can be found on the R.E.A.L. website or in the middle school counseling offices. R.E.A.L. Early College High School Relevant Experiential Active Learning

Visual Arts The visual arts program offers students opportunities in creative courses, such as jewelry making, painting, drawing, photography, ceramics and expert printmaking using metal plates. Theater or Technical Theater In the fall, our students participate in professional-quality musicals. Past productions include The Phantom of the Opera, Fiddler on the Roof and The Sound of Music. Technology computer gaming, audio engineering, video engineering The digital media program is led by an Apple Certified Trainer, and students can become certified in Final Cut Pro, a creative mediaediting program.
