2 KIDS COLLEGE CONDUCTED AT MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY July 6 July 17, 2015 The Gifted and Talented Office of Ingham Intermediate School District and Michigan State University are pleased to announce the twenty-ninth year of Kids College for talented students. This collaborative venture is designed to improve and expand educational offerings for students who have outstanding abilities and/or potential talent in the content areas of science, technology, engineering and math. The content focus for 2015 is Forces. Eligibility Criteria To be eligible for participation, a student: Must currently be in grade 4 or grade 5 Must attend school in Ingham, Clinton, Eaton or Shiawassee counties with preference being given to students from Ingham County Should have an interest in science Must have demonstrated high potential for development in the sciences Must submit a letter of recommendation from the principal, gifted and talented coordinator or classroom teacher Must have parental permission to participate Faculty The faculty for Kids College consists of experienced classroom teachers who have completed study in graduate level courses in gifted education and science education. Schedule Kids College will operate from Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 17, 2015 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am each weekday in Berkey Hall on the campus of Michigan State University. Tuition The tuition for Kids College is $ per student. Please make the tuition check payable to Ingham ISD. Scholarships Students for whom financial need can be documented may apply for scholarship assistance. School districts may also help students who need financial assistance.

5 FINANCIAL ASSITANCE REQUEST If you do not require financial assistance please do not return this form. I am requesting a scholarship from Ingham Intermediate School District. 6 MORE DETAILS Transportation will be available to students who reside within the Lansing School District. Contact Ingham ISD, Gifted and Talented Office at for more information. For students who do not reside within the Lansing School District, transportation to and from Michigan State University must be provided by the parents. Parents must have students at MSU by 8:30 am each day of the program. The program coordinator and instructors will be available at Berkey Hall from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm each day. It is important that parents arrive between 11:30 am and 11:45 am to pick up students. Specific instructions about where to drop off and pick up students will be given at the Orientation Meeting. Kids College is an academic program and not a camp experience. However, the learning experience will be exciting, enjoyable and challenging. 7 What Students and Parents Have Said About Participating in Kids College Student Voices I used creative thinking to solve problems. I learned a lot and worked hard! I was very interested in the science topics we learned about. I met new friends from other schools and liked working in teams. I just want to say Kids College was really fun and exciting. I loved being here! It was amazing, again! It s off the charts awesome! In Kids College, instructors talk less and let students experiment and work more. It s really fun, and science is really fun! I hope more people will come here. The teachers were fun and helpful! They make you think and problem solve with experiments. Parent Voices It s a wonderful program with wonderful instructors! I loved that the learning involved discovery and creativity!!! I am sad my child will be too old for the program next year. He has absolutely loved it these past two years. The instructors and program director were awesome! My child came home excited every day after Kids College and couldn t wait to tell us all about what she did each day. Thank you for organizing this program and offering this opportunity. The individual teachers were exceptional and motivated. This program really stimulated my son and tapped into some brainstorming and hands on experiments that are overlooked in the school curriculum. This has been a wonderful experience. We look forward to next year!
