The VCS Credit Recovery program will assess the student when entering the program and design an individualized plan for the student in need of recovery. Qualification To qualify for a credit recovery course, a school district official must certify that the student has previously failed the course and needs to complete the course. Credit recovery is a partnership between VCS and the local school district and cannot be accessed by an individual student. Pricing Credit recovery students are charged a per-course fee of $149 for a 60-hour course and $199 for a 120-hour course. Although the school district may refer a student for credit recovery, the district can be invoiced for the student s course fee, or the individual can pay for the course through PayPal online. District of record The local school district is the district of record, and after receiving notice of grade completion, will be responsible for providing the official grade for the course. Credit recovery students can be entered into the class as soon as one business day following their payment for the course. P.A.S.S. program for young parents Earn and Learn for working students R.E.A.L. program for talented H.S. students X-Team for students in grades 4-8 P.A.S.S. Program For young mothers and fathers The Parent and Successful Student program for pregnant teens and young parents. Students work toward an academic goal of high school graduation. The P.A.S.S. program offers high school credit for class work and individual activities related to a healthy pregnancy, positive parenting, gaining economic independence and developing a positive self-image. Relevant academic credit and skills are integrated into the program. Earn and Learn Program For working students This elective course will help working students (paid or volunteer work) with goal setting, job applications, resume writing, employability skills, time management and problem solving. Students will also receive mentoring. R.E.A.L. Program For talented and gifted students in grades 9-12 Real experience equals authentic learning! This program is for talented and gifted students in grades It s different from most TAG programs though, because R.E.A.L. is completely individualized to suit the student s talent. In this course, students will design their own learning experience. With guidance from the talented students coordinator, students will pursue an interest or passion throughout the program and network with peers. The possibilities for learning are endless! Students will be supported with community resources, professionals and opportunities to enrich and support development and learning in their chosen field. X-Team Program For talented and gifted students in grades 4-8 In the X-Team program, students in grades 4-8 will explore their talent or gift through individualized projects, use the Renzulli Learning System to discover new ways to expand their interests and meet other X-team members for monthly field trips. Students will truly experience their education first-hand!

How it works: High school students can earn up to two years of college credit before graduation! Through a unique partnership with Kent State University, students can earn dual credit for high school and college courses. All courses are offered online, so students do not have to travel to a college campus. There are more than 30 courses to choose from. How is this different from PSEO? This dual credit program is based on a direct agreement between VCS Ohio and the university. It is not part of the state s Post Secondary Enrollment Options program. That one-on-one relationship allows for more direct communication and greater flexibility. Plus, these courses are all online, so students do not have to travel to a college campus. That gives peace of mind to students, parents and school districts. Pricing Dual credit courses through Kent State University cost $185 per credit hour. Application requirements Students must submit: Completed written college application and essay High school transcripts Two recommendations from H.S. teachers or guidance counselors Preferred 3.0 cumulative high school grade point average on a 4.0 scale Preferred ACT composite score of 23 or combined SAT score of 1070 (reading and math) Applicants are evaluated holistically, so GPA and test scores may fluctuate. What courses are offered? Course offerings vary by semester, but in the past, high school students have been able to take courses in the areas of Composition, Mathematics and Critical Reasoning, Humanities, Fine Arts, Social Sciences, Basic Sciences, Education, Health and Human Services. Additional notes All dual credit courses should be transferable with a grade of C or better. KSU will submit official grades to VCS Ohio. VCS Ohio, as a public charter school, will award high school credit to students through Ohio s credit flexibility plan.

It s not too late to finish high school. Life is full of twists and turns. If you didn t get a chance to finish high school, don t worry. It s not too late. The VCS Ohio Adult Second Chance Program allows individuals to take courses they need to complete high school graduation requirements. Why should I earn my diploma? A high school diploma makes a person more desirable in the job market. Also, people with a high school diploma earn more money than those without. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, a person with a high school diploma will earn $200,000 more over their career than a person with only some high school education. Adult students will enjoy the flexibility and privacy offered by online classes. Students who are in their 20s or 30s will not feel out of place by sitting beside other students who are teenagers. How much does it cost? Courses for students over age 22 that are working toward their high school graduation requirements are available at a rate of $149 per course. How do I know I ll get a quality education? VCS Ohio is a fully-licensed public charter school district in the State of Ohio and operates under the rules of the Ohio Department of Education. VCS teachers are certified and highly-qualified. Individuals who complete all credit requirements and State of Ohio testing requirements will be eligible to receive a VCS Ohio high school diploma. Students who successfully complete all coursework, but not testing, will receive a certificate of completion. When you apply for the Adult Second Chance Program, you will be asked to submit a one-page application form, a copy of your latest high school transcript and testing records. Students may be entered into the class as soon as one business day following their payment for their course.
