2 LET IT SHINE! MATTHEW 5:16 Welcome to River Hills 2016 Arts Camp: Let it Shine! Arts Camp is designed to give students entering Kindergarten through 6th grade a glimpse into various arts. Our youngest students all join the Art of Kindergarten class, while those entering 1st and 2nd grade automatically join the Exploring Arts course. Students entering 3rd through 6th grade choose a specific art to explore, including cake decorating, gardening, American Sign Language, or film making. As part of Arts Camp, each student is also trained in the Art of Stage Presence and Performance. At the conclusion of Arts Camp week, students lead an Arts Camp Showcase, where they perform on stage and show off their Arts Camp creations in a gallery-like setting.

4 ART OF GARDENING Course Description In the Art of Gardening course, students will create container gardens as well as learn how to beautify a landscape. From digging in the dirt to caring for plant life, students will experience hands-on activities and develop skills that can last a lifetime. Each unique container garden as well as the beautified landscape will be on display for the Arts Camp Showcase. Instructor - Linda Bollman Linda is a teacher at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy and a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Anderson Township. She is an experienced gardener who finds great joy and peace when able to spend time on her knees working, praying, and appreciating the wonder of God s creation in the garden. She is very excited to share her faith and her passion for gardening with our youth this summer. Linda is married to Wayne, a retired art teacher, and enjoys spoiling her two grandsons, Eli and Adam. Course available for students entering 3rd-6th grade.
5 ART OF FILM MAKING Course Description In the Art of Film Making course, students will spend the week learning how to create their own films using objects that they can find at home! Students will work in groups to practice the basics of filmmaking. Students will then create their own stories and film them. By the end of the week they will have a movie to show their friends and family! Instructor - Caleb Swelbar Caleb holds a Bachelor s degree in Digital Arts and Design and has been working in the animation and video field for the past 5 years. He has worked with WWE and ESPN and has spent the past three years teaching 5th-12th graders how to create films through various film camps. Caleb is currently the Media Director at River Hills Christian Church. In his free time you can find him kayaking, playing video games, or hanging out with his dog Mocha. Course available for students entering 3rd-6th grade.
6 Course Description In the Art of Cake Decorating course, students will learn what it takes to make great-looking cakes. Student will be trained how to how to put a crumb coat on a cake, how to apply the final coat, and how to smooth the icing. Students will put together cake decorating bags and tips, mix icing to make colors, and create a variety of designs. The students amazing skills will be displayed on cupcakes served at the Friday evening Arts Camp Showcase. Instructor - Heather Morency Heather holds a Bachelor of Arts in Health and Physical Education K-12 and a Master s in Health Promotion Exercise Management. She is currently the Physical Education teacher at Ayer Elementary School and has enjoyed coaching Varsity Fastpitch, Freshman basketball, and coach pitch baseball. She has taken cake decorating courses through the Wilton program and enjoys baking for many occasions. She also enjoys spending time with her husband and three boys. ART OF CAKE DECORATING Course available for students entering 3rd-6th grade.
7 ART OF AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE Course Description In the Art of American Sign Language course, students will learn the basic ASL alphabet, how to sign with music, and how to communicate basic phrases. Students will also sign along with a unique song during the Arts Camp Showcase. Learning a new language has never been so fun! Instructor - Margie Meineke Margie has an Associates of Arts degree in the Interpreting Training Program. She has been working in the interpreting field for 14 years, mostly in the educational area. Serving with the church s Deaf Ministry, Margie also interprets at River Hills Christian Church. She enjoys spending time with her family, her husband, daughter, son-in-law, and twin boys. Course available for students entering 3rd-6th grade.
8 ART OF KINDERGARTEN Course Description In the Art of Kindergarten course, students entering Kindergarten will learn and play under the guidance of experienced, certified Early Childhood Education teachers. Kids will practice how to do school through creating art projects, going on scavenger hunts, practicing writing, and more. In addition, students will practice fundamentals such as walking in a line, listening to a story, and taking turns. The Art of Kindergarten will benefit students who have been in preschool for years and students new to a classroom setting. As part of the Arts Camp Showcase, students will proudly reveal their Arts Camp creations. Instructor - Lisa Williams Lisa earned a Master s in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Cincinnati. She currently teaches 2nd grade at McCormick Elementary. Lisa has been teaching for 15 years. During those years, she has taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. Lisa enjoys helping coach soccer for her son and daughter. She also enjoys singing, reading, and spending time with family.
9 Instructor - Kim Miller Kim is a retired teacher who taught for 35 years, including 13 years in Special Education and the remaining years in 1st grade. Once retired, she realized she missed being with children every day and returned to school as a substitute. She has completed numerous long term substitute positions and is currently employed as a reading tutor for 1st grade. She loves spending time cooking, reading, and being with her grandkids.
10 1ST & 2ND GRADE EXPLORING ARTS Course Description In the 1st & 2nd Grade Exploring Arts course, students entering 1st and 2nd grade will explore a variety of arts, including photography, art, and gardening. With new activities each day, students will experience a range of exciting ways to engage with God s world. Students will create a variety of work to be displayed at the Arts Camp Showcase and enjoy showing off their creations for family and friends. Instructor - Carly Ghantous Carly earned a Bachelor s in Secondary Education - Integrated Language Arts from the University of Cincinnati. She currently teaches 10th grade English at Sycamore High School and has been teaching there for 7 years. Before teaching English, Carly was an Activities Director at a local day camp and taught preschool gymnastics. She enjoys reading, baking, organizing, and spending time with her husband and three children.
11 Instructor - Kim Dalton Kim holds RN licensure and currently works (extremely) parttime at Norwood Endoscopy Center. Prior to her nursing career, Kim received an Associates degree in Culinary Arts and a Bachelor s in Liberal Arts, with the desire to take over her family s restaurant. Shortly after she turned 32, she felt a calling to pursue a nursing career. Kim has been a volunteer in the River Hills preschool ministry for 5 years. She currently volunteers in the 4 & 5s class and absolutely loves it! Kim s most important job is raising her 3 children. She enjoys staying active through walking, hiking, boot camp classes and running after her children. Her whole family loves the outdoors and you can find them at the Cincinnati Nature Center most weekends during the summer. She loves to read, cook, and bake with her children.
12 ART OF STAGE PERFORMANCE Course Description Each student who attends Arts Camp will be trained in the Art of Stage Presence and Performance. Students will sing and/or sign (using American Sign Language) one song to be performed at the Friday evening Arts Camp Showcase and at the Sunday morning River Hills church services following Arts Camp on July 31. (The Sunday morning performances are optional but encouraged.) Instructor - Erin Conn Erin holds a Master of Arts in Teaching and secondary Integrated English Language Arts teaching licensure. She currently teaches 7th and 8th grade at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy and has enjoyed coaching volleyball and helping direct middle school musical theatre. She enjoys baking, singing, playing volleyball, and traveling with her husband and three kids.

Ann Morency - Arts Camp Nurse Ann Morency is a Registered Nurse who graduated from the University of Cincinnati. She just celebrated 25 years with TriHealth. Ann works full time as a telemetry nurse in the Chest Pain Unit and the Emergency Room. She enjoys camping, boating and spending time with her kids and grandkids. She has a primary role as the nurse coordinator in the Belize Mission trip at River Hills.
15 Gina Bowling - Hospitality Facilitator Gina holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Cincinnati. She is a stay at home mom to her two daughters. Gina keeps busy with working out and volunteering at her kids schools. She loves doing things with her family and is also a huge sports fan and enjoys going to Bengals, Reds, and Bearcats games. Kate Smith - Hospitality Facilitator Kate holds a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition from Ohio University, where she met her husband of 22 plus years. She is fortunate to have the most challenging yet rewarding job as a domestic engineer! She has spent countless hours volunteering at her kids schools over the years and is thrilled to have her 2 teenage daughters also helping with Arts Camp. Family always comes first, but Kate enjoys walking her dogs and creating a balance with exercise/yoga and a small spiritual book club with friends.
