1 Deplying Matlab applicatins (windws) This shrt tutrial is made using Matlab R2008b (Matlab cmpiler v4.9) and relies n the use f deplytl. This tutrial might nt be suited fr lder versins f Matlab (deplytl was intrduced in versin 2006b). Wrking with a cmpiled standalne versin, nt requiring a Matlab license, prvides a nice wrkarund. If yur Matlab is using yur institute s license server, it might happen that n licenses are available anymre. If yu have yur Matlab cde and yu are t run Cmpiler_1

2 several paparmatric studies, then a standalne versin might bring help, since yu are nt dependent anymre n the availability f the licenses n the license server. This might require sme minr re-thinking and re-writing f yur prgram t let it behave as a general-purpse prgram (read sme parameters, read the input data and start the calculatins). After creating yur cmpnent with the MATLAB Cmpiler, yu can distribute, r deply, it t thers s that they can use it n their machines, independent f MATLAB. The deplyment prcess requires that yu: Package the necessary cmpnents depending n the type f generated applicatin. Distribute them t yur end user. Have the end users install them n their systems. During this phase f the installatin prcess, the end users run MCRInstaller nce n their target machine, that is, the machine where they will run the applicatin r library. On Windws, MCRInstaller is a self-extracting executable that installs thenecessary cmpnents t run yur applicatin. On UNIX, MCRInstaller is a ZIP file. The cmpiling/packaging prcess Step 0: Befre using the Matlab Cmpiler fr the first time, yu must run the setup cmmand n mbuild t cnfigure yur C/C++ cmpiler t wrk with the Matlab Cmpiler. (The Matlab Cmpiler requires a supprted ANSI C r C++ cmpiler installed n yur system.). The Lcc cmpiler is installed by default when installing the Cmpiler Tlbx. A very simple prgram is used t demnstrate the cmpiler/deplytl Cmpiling the cde Remark: lder versin f the cmpiler might have prblems when cmpiling script M-files Instead, they must be cnverted int functin M-files. Nrmally, this is simply a case f wrapping the main sectin f cde within a functin. type deplytl t pen the Deplyment Tl windw. The Deplyment Tl pens as a dckable windw in the MATLAB desktp, and a menu labeled Prject is added t the MATLAB menu bar. Cmpiler_3

4 Create a new prject: In the Deplyment Tl tlbar, click the New Prject icn. In the New Deplyment Prject dialg bx, select (Windws) Standalne Applicatins, and enter the fllwing settings (The Matlab Cmpiler deplyment target Windws Standalne Applicatin was new with Matlab R2007b. Older versins nly had the Standalne Applicatin ptin - the difference being the new Windws Standalne Applicatin des nt start a cmmand cnsle (ds bx)): In the Name field, enter the prject name. In the Lcatin field, enter the name f yur wrk directry Click OK. Cmpiler_4

5 The MATLAB Cmpiler displays the prject flder in the Deplyment Tl windw. The flder cntains three flders, which are empty. Drag the main rutine f yur Matlab prgram t the Main functin flder. If ther files are included in yur prgramming prject, drag then t the Other files flder. In the screendump belw, an example is shwn with the main prgram (TSP_v1_func.m) and all the functins that are called by this main functin are placed under Other files ) Build the applicatin as fllws: Cmpiler_5

6 In the Deplyment Tl tlbar, click the Build Prject icn. The build prcess begins, and a lg f the build appears in the Deplyment Tl Output pane. The status f the prcess is displayed in the status bar at the bttm f the utput pane. The Deplyment Tl Output pane is dckable; by default it appears acrss the bttm f the MATLAB desktp. Cmpiler_6

7 The MATLAB Cmpiler prduct puts the files that are needed fr the applicatin in tw newly created subdirectries, src and distrib, in the directry. Package the cde Package the applicatin s it can run n machines that d nt have MATLAB installed. Check the settings t verify if the Include MATLAB Cmpiler Runtime (MCR) ptin is selected (in the Packaging pane f Prject Settings) r nt. Deselect the ptin if yu d nt want t include the MCR in yur package. In the Deplyment Tl tlbar, click the Package Prject icn. The MATLAB Cmpiler prduct creates a package in the distrib subdirectry. On Windws, the package is a self-extracting executable, and n platfrms ther than Windws, it is a.zip file. Cmpiler_7

8 Deplying a Matlab Applicatin Duble click n the exe-file (in this example it will be simple_test_pkg.exe (the MCR installer was als included in the package). Cmpiler_8

9 The cmmand windw will appear, and the exe-file will inflate the files cntained. The installatin wizard will start with the language windw Select the language Additinal sftware might be necessary, click Install t install these cmpnents. Cmpiler_9

13 When the installatin is finished, a test can be ran. Dublick n the.exe f yur prgram (it might take sme time befre the executin actually starts. Cmpiler_13
