1 Criminal Justice Student Assciatin (CJSA) Cnstitutin/Bylaws Article I: NAME The name f this rganizatin shall be the Criminal Justice Student Assciatin (CJSA), hereinafter referred t as CJSA r Assciatin. Article II: Purpse Sectin 1. The purpse, bjectives, and aims f this rganizatin shall be as fllws: 1. T fster a cnnective netwrk amng current CJSA (criminal justice and plitical science) students and criminal justice and plitical science alumni. 2. T prvide cmmunity service t Athens State University and the cmmunity 3. T prmte the pursuit f pst-secndary educatin/ higher educatin and excellence. 4. T participate in academic, scial, schlarship, and cultural prgrams and educatin fr undergraduates and alumni members. 5. T represent the criminal justice prgram and Athens State University. 6. T advance the study f criminal justice and related fields Sectin 2. The Criminal Justice Student Assciatin (CJSA) agrees t abide by all rules and regulatins which have been set frth fr all students and rganizatins at Athens State University. Article III: Members Sectin 1. Active Members. Active members are undergraduate and alumni students wh are studying r cnsidered creditable practitiners in the criminal justice field wh are affiliated with Athens State University. Membership int CJSA is pen t all criminal justice students, alumni, and distinguished members r readmitted t active status by this chapter. All members must maintain high standards, mrals and ethics. Active members are entitled t participate in all chapter meetings and have the right t vte. Sectin 2. Student Membership is defined as students enrlled in undergraduate r graduate prgrams (if available) when prgram is active. Students wh are full-time and maintains at least a 2.0. gpa are eligible t hld a psitin as a fficer. (Nte: Membership requirements must meet the Sciety minimum criteria as stated in the Cnstitutin f the Sciety. Any chapter, at its discretin, may establish higher schlastic criteria). A. Undergraduate students shall be enrlled in Athens State University, have registered fr majr r minr standing in criminal justice r plitical science r a related prgram in nature which is equivalent t such standings, have cmpleted at least: a. Enrlled in r cmpleted at least 2 criminal justice r related curses r

2 b. 3 semester hurs c. Have a minimum GPA f 2.0 n 4.0 GPA verall r in criminal justice majr B. Graduate Students shall be enrlled in Athens State University, have registered fr majr r minr standing in criminal justice r plitical science r a related prgram in nature which is equivalent t such standings, have cmpleted at least (if applicable): a. Enrlled in r cmpleted at least 2 criminal justice r related curses r b. 3 semester hurs c. Have a minimum GPA f 2.0 n 4.0 GPA verall r in criminal justice majr Sectin 3. Membership int CJSA will nt discriminate n the basis f race, sex, religin, natinality, disability, age, financial status, scial status r sexual rientatin. Sectin 4. Faculty Members f Athens State University and ther criminal justice r plitical science wh are full-time faculty at the institutin and hld a dctral degree in criminal justice, plitical science r related field may becme active members and/ r advisrs but nt eligible t hld chapter ffice. Sectin 5. Electin t membership shall be by a tw-thirds vte at a regular meeting f the chapter. Sectin 6. Prir t inductin, each prspective member shall pay a membership fee as determined and vted n by the chapter members, which shall entitle the member enrllment in the chapter. Chapter fees are used t perate and hst activities and cmmunity service prjects as a dnatin t the chapter. All CJSA fficers must pay membership dues as established by the Chapter. Article IV: Officers Sectin 1. The Criminal Justice Student Assciatin shuld have a leadership grup cmprised f a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, and any ther fficer that CJSA members and fficers deem necessary t meet its gals. Must have at least three fficers previusly listed. The fficers shall perfrm the duties prescribed by these bylaws, the cnstitutin and bylaws f the assciatin, and by the parliamentary authrity adpted by the chapter, and shall fulfill such ther duties and requirements as may be determined by the Assciatin. Sectin 2. CJSA Officers shall be elected by a fair and demcratic prcess. At the regular chapter meeting prceeding, the meeting at which the electin f fficers is t be held, a nminating cmmittee f at least 3 t 5 active members shall be elected and at least ne member shall be a faculty member f Athens State University s CJSA. It shall be the duty f this cmmittee t nminate candidates fr the ffices t be

3 filled at the first academic meeting f each academic year in September and n later than Octber. Befre the electin, additinal nminatins frm the flr is permitted. The fficers are elected by ballt and/ r ral electin signified by hand vtes (methd chsen by members during the meeting), t serve fr ne year r until successrs are elected, and term f ffice shall begin after the first meeting and electin during the fall semester. In the event there is nly ne candidate fr an ffice, the electin may be by vice vte (ral electin). Sectin 4. N member shall hld mre than ne ffice at a time, and n member shall serve mre than tw terms in the same ffice. Sectin 5. Shuld the ffice f President becme vacant, it shall be filled by the Vice President. A vacancy in any ther ffice shall be filled by a cmmittee member r anther fficer with the apprval f the Chapter Advisr. Sectin 6. The duties and respnsibilities will be defined as fllws: 1. President Organize, plan and facilitate the grwth and success f the rganizatin. Plan and crdinate meetings f the rganizatin s fficers. Preside ver rganizatin meetings. Oversee the planning f all rganizatin functins and activities. Meet regularly with the rganizatin Advisr. Determine Distinguished Members with the input and apprval f the ther rganizatin fficers. Oversee and apprve verall rganizatin budget. 2. Vice President Wrk with the President t assure the grwth and success f the rganizatin. Attend meetings f the rganizatin that are called by the President. Cnduct all crrespndence fr the rganizatin. Fulfill the duties f President, in his r her absence. 3. Treasurer Oversee the public relatins (including but nt limited t wrkshps, speaking engagements, schlar recgnitin) fr the rganizatin. Attend meetings f the chapter that are called by the president. Manage and versee, in cnjunctin with the advisrs, all financial transactins f the chapter. (cllecting dues, recrding dues, fees and expenditures) Prepare a budget fr the rganizatin. 4. Secretary Organize distributin f materials t members. Attend meetings f the chapter that are called by the president.

4 Recrd minutes f the leadership and general meetings and frward these t the membership and the Natinal Office (if applicable). Assist with maintenance f archive, phtgraphy, and website. Assist in planning and crdinatin f receptins held by CJSA and scial functins fr CJSA. Oversee the rganizatin scrapbk/tri-fld psters and presentatin banners. Article V: Meetings Sectin 1. Regular meetings. The executive cmmittee and the chapter advisr shall determine the number f regular meetings held during the year and shall distribute a schedule f these meetings t active members. Sectin 2. Special Meetings. Special Meetings can be called by the President, Advisr, r E xecutive Cmmittee and shall be called upn the written request f ten active members f the chapter if nt initiated by the Advisr. Advisr must be present at all meetings. Sectin 3. Qurum Thse active members present shall cnstitute qurum fr the transactin f business. Qurum is a minimum f ne-third f the membership. Article VI: Executive Cmmittee Sectin 1: Executive Cmmittee shall cnsist f the fficers f the chapter and the Chapter Advisr. Sectin 2: The executive Cmmittee shall have general supervisin f the chapter between its business meetings, determine the hur and place f the meetings, make recmmendatins t the chapter, cause all reprts required by the assciatin t be submitted in a timely manner, and shall perfrm such ther duties as are specified in these bylaws and cnstitutin, bylaws and rulings f this assciatin. Sectin 3: Meetings Meetings f the Executive Cmmittee shall be called by the president r by any 2 members f the cmmittee and apprved by the Advisr. Article VII. Chapter Advisr The Chapter shall have a Chapter Advisr wh is a member f the Assciatin and a member f the faculty and institutin. Sectin 2. Chapter Advisr shall assist the chapter in fulfilling its purpse and requirements f the assciatin.

5 Sectin 3. The amunt f time the advisr serves must be n less than ne year. If an advisr chses t resign fr any reasn, the advisr shall immediately ntify the fficers and meet with the assciatin s leadership t discuss and designate a replacement. Article VIII. Cmmittees Chapter Cmmittees shall cnsist f a Chair and at least 1 additinal active members. Standing cmmittees shall be established by the chapter. Special cmmittees shall be established by the president, executive members, r advisr. Pssible cmmittees f the chapter shall be; Sectin 1. Public Relatins Cmmittee/Outreach Cmmittee shall represent CJSA within the cllege/ university cmmunity, especially in the department f criminal justice. Sectin 2. Membership Cmmittee shall prmte membership within CJSA t all qualified persns. Sectin 3. Inductin Cmmittee shall make arrangements fr inductin ceremnies. Sectin 4. Prgram Cmmittee shall select prgrams and make arrangement fr chapter meetings. Sectin 5. Finance Cmmittee shall prepare the budget and make annual reprts fr chapter finances. Nte: ther cmmittees are pssible and are determined by the executive bard and advisr when necessary Article IX. Parliamentary Authrity The rules cntained in Rbert s Rules f Order, newly devised, shall gvern the chapter in all cases, t which they are applicable and in which they are nt incnsistent with these bylaws, the Cnstitutin and Bylaws f the Assciatin, and any special rules f rder the chapter may adpt. Article X. Amendment f Bylaws These bylaws maybe amended at any fficial meeting f the assciatin by a tw-thirds vte, prvided the amendment was submitted in writing r submitted in writing t all members f the chapter at least ne week prir t the meeting f which it is t be cnsidered. These bylaws shall nt be in cnflict with the cnstitutin and bylaws and rulings f the assciatin. Any amendment f the cnstitutin and bylaws, and rulings f the assciatin, affecting these bylaws shall cause this dcument t be amended autmatically t cncur with such amendment.
