3 Qualifications explained HIGHER NATIONAL CERTIFICATE (HNC) HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) DEGREES HNC courses studied on a full-time basis take between 18 weeks and one year to achieve. You can also study on a part-time basis (part-time day study, evening classes or a combination of the two). Part-time students normally take two to three years to achieve an HNC. Upon successful completion of an HNC you may have the opportunity to progress to the second year of an HND or to the second year of a degree. HND courses offer a more in-depth range of study than HNC. An HND is awarded on successful completion of 30 credits and usually takes up to two years to compete on a full-time basis. Some HND courses are also available on a part-time basis. Upon successful completion there may be the opportunity to progress straight into year 3 of a degree. Edinburgh College offers degree level courses both at College and in partnership with universities across Scotland. With our associate student degrees you study the first two years of your degree course at Edinburgh College with a guaranteed place at one of our partner universities to complete the final two years, subject to meeting the conditions. You will still complete your degree in four years, the same as if you went directly to university. 2 Higher Education edinburghcollege.ac.uk Edinburgh College courseinfo@edinburghcollege.ac.uk 3
