4 Clifton Ready Hub Computing Level 3 students from Rotherham College worked with four primary schools in the Clifton area of Rotherham to launch the Clifton Ready Hub website as part of an enterprise project. The project aim was to develop valuable skills by interacting with others that aren t as knowledgeable in web design. Computing students went in to the schools and spent time with both the students and staff, teaching them how to maintain the website by adding and changing the content. The students all worked closely together resulting in a website that students, from age 5 to 11 years, can manage themselves. Jackie Frost, Enterprise Projects Manager at Rotherham MBC Children and Young People s Services said: We are delighted that the schools involved in the Clifton Ready Hub have worked in partnership with Rotherham College to create a website which will allow pupils to showcase the progression of enterprise activity across this learning community. The website is just the start of the relationship between the Clifton Ready Hub schools and Rotherham College and we look forward to seeing how their future collaborations develop. 7 I would definitely recommend my course to other students - I found myself learning something new every day and creating things that I never thought would have been possible. Helen Andrzejowska Games Animation Helen studied Media, Animation and Games at Rotherham College to pursue her passion to become a games concept artist. The course provided Helen with the knowledge and support she needed to go on to study at university. Helen is now doing a BA Hons in Games Design at Huddersfield University and for her placement year, she intends on traveling to Japan to work for Sony. She believes that her course at Rotherham College prepared her for university because of the vast support network she received from industry experienced tutors. 84
8 Life-Saving Illustrations Receive Universal Approval There s no bigger confidence boost for an illustrator than having your work selected to be used to promote a new life-saving system on two continents. For Media, Animation and Games student Bethany Marsh, it became a reality. Creative design agency Flash Frame Productions contacted the College with the brief that they required a talented and reliable artist to work alongside their team to create stylish, cartoon images to enhance a project for a new life-saving system called Visensia. Bethany worked with Dave Thorp, Video Director/Producer at Flash Frame, and produced between 20 and 30 cartoon sketches, including character portraits, which were built into an animation showcasing the project. The film was shown worldwide to exclusive medical professional audiences and was met with universal acclaim for its style and originality. Bethany is grateful for the opportunity to demonstrate her skills for a professional client. It s been a great experience working for a professional client, she said. It s worth taking part in these types of opportunities because it helps you increase your confidence, build your portfolio and possibly get a job out of it. You get plenty of opportunities like this at Rotherham College so make sure you seize them because it s a great way to get noticed in the industry and enhance your CV. Further information: or
