3 NC BUSINESS NC ADMINISTRATION (SCQF 5/6) This one-year course introduces you to the knowledge and practical skills you ll need to work in the business sector. Achieve 12 units at level 5 or above and you will be awarded the National Certificate in Business at Level 5. Complete the course successfully and you ll be able to study for further qualifications at HNC level. Today, the internet is an important part of business, so we have updated the course to include analysing and using information for strategic purposes. 7 DIPLOMA OF HIGHER EDUCATION (BUSINESS) (SCQF 8) The course is a collaboration between City of Glasgow College and the University of Strathclyde Glasgow designed to give you entry straight into the third year of the BA degree programme at Strathclyde Business School a qualification highly regarded by employers. Three Higher Grade passes at Grade C or above, including English (or alternatively, suitable subjects such as Modern Studies, History or Economics) and Two other passes at Standard Grade or equivalent at band 2 or above, preferably including Mathematics or Intermediate 2 passes will also be considered Year One Business Law, Economics, Managing People, Principles of Marketing, Psychology, Information Technology and Statistics. 8 HNC/D ACCOUNTING (SCQF 7/8) This course will prepare you for further study at University or for the courses run by professional accounting organisations like ACCA, CIPFA and CIMA. It will also equip you with the knowledge and understanding you need to begin work in an accounts department in industry or the public sector. It includes the information technology skills employers require in today s job market. The course suits both those with or without previous accounting knowledge. One Higher Grade pass at Grade C or above preferably in one of the following: English, Mathematics, Physics or Accounting and Finance, (other Highers or 3 Intermediate 2 Grade A passes may be considered by the Curriculum Leader) OR: A NC Accounting Group Award or a NC in another discipline with at least 15 credits, OR: Work experience may also be considered in lieu of qualifications HND 2nd year direct entry: an HNC Accounting with 12 or more credits, including all mandatory credits HNC (HND Year 1) The core units you ll study include: Recording Financial Information, Preparing Final Accounts, Using Financial Accounting Software, Management Accounting using Information Technology, Cost Accounting, and Accounting Graded Unit 1. On this course you ll produce advertising campaign materials and public relations media products, and put industry practices into action. You ll also promote a real event, following a live brief. You ll develop an understanding of the nature and function of advertising and public relations, within a wider marketing and marketing communications framework. You ll also learn how to communicate effectively in this environment. You ll make presentations and pitches to industry professionals, prepare project work and carry out assignments. You ll meet a number of industry guest speakers and contacts and in second year, there is a course educational study visit to New York. There is a large social media component to the course, reflecting industry practice you will study units in this area, and be then expected to use appropriate social media throughout the course.
