FOCUS ON Business success through training & recruitment invest in your workforce and gain the competitive edge
Everything we do at Lincoln College is with your success in mind. We live in a fast-paced, skill hungry world, where there are no longer jobs for life. In today s competitive workplace you have to embrace change, adapt quickly and keep your professional knowledge and expertise up-to-date with regular training. Businesses that encourage learning and development equip staff to drive their company forward and compete effectively. We want to help you achieve this. We are proud to be a local business, proud to be creating the workforce of the future and proud of the thousands of students who qualify in their chosen profession each year through us. So while we supply the up and coming workforce, we are also experts in training your existing workforce to drive your business forward to growth and prosperity. We are proud to be a patron of the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce and passionate about helping our local economy thrive. Each year Lincoln College contributes 185 million to our regional economy, and most of that is through workforce development upskilling individuals so businesses prosper. Each year over 1200 businesses choose us to deliver training to their employees, and for most of these, we are their regular provider. We see a longstanding relationship as the best way to operate, so we can learn about your business, and how we can support you to thrive. CREATING THE WORKFORCE OF THE FUTURE

FOCUS ON Recruitment Recruiting new staff can be costly and time consuming, and ensuring your new staff have the right skills can be a risky business. We can source candidates for your apprenticeship vacancies We can match our past and current students to your positions We can run sector work academies. Our courses are designed with business in mind, and using industry-standard facilities and equipment. Our students are motivated, welltrained and ready for their next step they are the workforce of the future, now. They have also already identified the career they want and are studying the courses to help them get there so who better to employ than someone with a passion for your industry? Sector Work Academies Our sector work academies can assist if you are looking to make a significant change in staffing quickly, by for example opening up a new branch or producing a new product. We work with you to identify the skills you need from your new staff, and then develop a tailored programme. Aims to help cohorts of those currently unemployed by providing initial training and support to become potential candidates for your vacancies Programme made up of: employability skills and tailor-made bitesize training programme to suit individual businesses Business is able to interview and recruit from cohort Free recruitment service to businesses. We train over 10,000 people each year to the highest standards, from accounting through to warehousing and all the way up to degree level. Our unique free service for businesses Job Match enables businesses to promote their fulltime, part-time and seasonal vacancies to our current and previous student base. Have you considered an apprentice? We can help you to recruit the best quality candidates for any vacancies you may have many of our full-time students progress into apprentices, but we also work with the National Apprenticeship Service and use our own channels to identify the best quality candidates for you. This service is entirely free of charge.
Tesco recruits new staff through Sector Work Academy When retail giant, Tesco had a number of vacancies to fill at their new store in Lincoln, a sector work academy programme with Lincoln College and Jobcentre Plus provided the perfect solution. Sixty job seekers were invited to an information day by Lincoln Jobcentre Plus and following an assessment process Tesco selected 23 to go on a two-week retail and customer service training programme a tailor made programme created by the College for Tesco, which also included topics such as health and safety, handling customer payments and food safety. Although initially there were only 20 vacancies, all 23 were recruited as a result! Partnership Project Manager for Tesco Nina Tomlinson added: We ve really enjoyed working with the teams at Lincoln Jobcentre Plus and Lincoln College. Each year, 10,000 students undertake some form of training with Lincoln College. Each year, Lincoln College contributes 141 million to the local economy through contributing the skills that businesses need to prosper and grow.
FOCUS ON Training The best businesses recognise that training their staff is a key element of their investment in the future. We have over 125 years of working with businesses delivering training that complements in house provision. Our tutors are industry experts and we have expertise across multiple sectors. Apprenticeships Apprenticeships remain one of the most popular ways to recruit new staff or upskill existing staff. Apprenticeships involve assessing the competency of staff within the workplace. A wide variety of frameworks or subject areas are available, and there is often financial support available to support you. Government funding is available to help ensure that you have the skilled workforce in place to meet your customers demands. Flexible work-based training We understand that sending staff away on a course is often not the best solution for staff development. Vocational qualifications develop and formally recognise skills needed to perform specific job roles, so evidence is gathered from real work and tasks being completed on the job. They are delivered entirely on your premises, meaning visits and assessments can fit around your business priorities. Smiffy s Training has now become such an integrated part of the business, that we have introduced a prerequisite that all staff work towards a Level 2 in maths and English. Thanks to Lincoln College we have a more confident workforce - which is pivotal to our success. Bespoke Courses Sometimes, you have a training need that is specific to your business. We are experienced in designing a course from scratch for you. This bespoke approach involves working in partnership to fully understand your needs and creating a training solution that will deliver the skills your staff require to work effectively. Higher Education & Professional Accreditation Recent changes to the loans system offered by the government mean that our university-level courses are more accessible than ever, with most available part-time. This allows you to push your staff to develop, but more choice in how you support them: from financial support, to time to study or of course, your staff can choose to study entirely in their own time. We also offer a range of programmes with professional accreditation, giving you industry standard qualifications, and allowing you to use this as a point of differentiation in your marketplace. Short industry led courses We offer a wide range of short courses covering legislative requirements or just short, sharp solutions for training. These are available either on college premises or on your site. Test the organisation This comprehensive and innovative approach assesses each member of staff against standards agreed by you this could include the three core functional skills: English, Maths and IT. When the results are analysed, we are able to make recommendations for an individualised programme of learning for each staff member. This is very much a strategic approach to workforce development and has been very popular. The process also highlights those who may be suitable to progress providing an inbuilt progression planning tool.
Workforce change Are you looking to significantly change your workforce? Whether you are in the unfortunate position of downsizing, or looking to grow quickly - we can support you. We can also support companies looking to grow their workforce directly. We do this by working to understand the skills and aptitudes you are looking for in new staff members. We then identify potential candidates and create and run a tailored training programme, so you have a fully trained team ready to hit the ground running. 94% of employers said the planned training solution met their business needs. 93% of employers would recommend Lincoln College to other employers. Work Experience Can you help shape a young person s future? You might even talent spot a potential future superstar. The government is keen that all young people should gain real experience and knowledge of the workplace in order to enhance their employability skills. The new study programme, alongside apprenticeships, is part of a bigger agenda in ensuring that the development of education, skills and training is done by providers in conjunction with businesses, to make sure that supply meets demand. If you are in a position to help someone gain valuable experience to enhance their career prospects, we d love to hear from you.
Our portfolio We offer training across a huge number of areas. Within each subject area, there are many different options for how training can be delivered. We will work with you to understand your business objectives, and advise on which type of training will best achieve your desired outcome, and best suit the individual needs of your staff. You don t need to understand the jargon that s why we re here! Hire an Apprentice and access a 1500 grant The Apprentice Grant for Employers (AGE) has been introduced to help eligible businesses grow their workforce and offer employment to young people through an Apprenticeship programme. Businesses can access funding of 1500 when they hire an apprentice aged 16 to 24 a fantastic incentive to recruit and nurture a motivated and enthusiastic individual. We can advise you on your eligibility for the grant. Free European Social Fund training Some of the training described above may be offered free to some businesses with less than 250 employees, if they are based within Lincolnshire. We can offer advice on your eligibility. 24+ Loans Many students aged 24 and over, including those studying part-time, can now access a loan system to allow them to pay for their course. This means that employers can support their staff to study, without bearing the financial burden.
