1 VACANCY ANOUNCEMENT Prject Manager Abut e-waste Access t ICT is a key driver fr the develpment f any sciety. Imprving access t infrmatin and enabling cmmunicatin cntributes t the eliminatin f pverty and disease in develping cuntries, as well as better educatin and gender equality. Unfrtunately, ICT equipment can pse a serius envirnmental threat when it has reached the end f its life. Mst e-waste cntains hazardus chemicals and materials (including lead, mercury, and cadmium) which pse a real threat t human health and the envirnment. As a cnsequence, e-waste is severely damaging t entire cmmunities by increasing air and water pllutin which can cause pisning, miscarriage, mental retardatin and even death. While much f the Western wrld has the necessary infrastructure and regulatry supprt t versee prper management f e-waste, the develping wrld ften lacks the necessary legislatin, expertise and infrastructure. This is where WrldLp steps in t create a win-win situatin. Thrugh its netwrk f partners, spnsrs and supprters, WrldLp helps cmmunities in develping cuntries t establish efficient, envirnmentally friendly, self-funding facilities fr e-waste cllectin and recycling. As well as helping t slve the envirnmental threat that e-waste represents, these facilities stimulate the ecnmy by creating green jbs lcally. Histry In 2008, Clse the Gap, an ICT fr develpment (ICT4Dev) nn-prfit rganizatin, recgnized the need fr an envirnmentally friendly recycling slutin fr the ICT assets used by their beneficiary prjects in develping cuntries. After explring the pssibility f using public-private partnerships t supprt sustainable e-waste management systems in these regins, the WrldPC prject was brn. On the 27th f September 2011 Clse the Gap, inaugurated the WEEE Centre. This was the first ever e- waste recycling centre in Nairbi, Kenya, specializing in end-f-life management f ICT assets. Eurpean Cmmissin Vice-President Neelie Kres led a special event attended by a high-level delegatin f Eurpean Unin representatives, crprate supprters, Clse the Gap and their strategic partners t hnur the ccasin. Thrugh the invaluable supprt f partners, the WrldPC prject was able t take ff as a separate rganizatin, under the new name f WrldLp, and with a dedicated management team in The team leveraged the mmentum created by Clse the Gap t extend the cllectin scpe and gegraphical reach and t prmte the imprtance f envirnmentally sund e-waste management in develping cuntries. Abut WrldLp WrldLp is an internatinal nn-prfit rganizatin cmmitted t extending the psitive impact f ICT prjects in develping cuntries by ffsetting the negative envirnmental impact f its hardware by facilitating the creatin f accessible, envirnmentally sund, scially respnsible and sustainable e-waste recycling slutins in these regins, turning e-waste int sustainable, human and ecnmic resurces. The WrldLp mdel is based n a best f bth wrlds apprach, cmbining manual cllectin & dismantling effrts in develping cuntries with best in class technlgically advanced recycling slutins available in OECD cuntries. By fstering prper e-waste management, WrldLp cntributes t the envirnmentally sund and sustainable use f ICT in develping cuntries. Engage cllabratin WrldLp acts as a fundraiser, bridge and incubatr between internatinal industry experts and e- waste management initiatives in develping cuntries s that they can becme self-sustaining. 3 Operatinal mdel The WrldLp mdel strives fr maximum empwerment f lcal rganizatins and supprts thse invlved in e-waste cllectin, dismantling and recycling by prviding the fllwing services t e-waste prjects: Financial supprt WrldLp prvides seed funding t cllectin, dismantling and recycling facilities. This allws them t start up, invest in infrastructure and becme self-sustaining. Financial supprt frm WrldLp is fr a limited time perid and has a c-funding requirement. Technical assistance WrldLp supprts member facilities by sharing knwledge and expertise. It prvides business plan supprt, training, advice n quality assurance and assistance in implementing standards fr wrker safety and recycling. Internatinal dispsal f hazardus fractins Thrugh strategic partnerships with best-in-class recyclers in Eurpe, WrldLp is able t prvide member facilities with a recycling and dispsal slutin fr cmplex and hazardus fractins that cannt be prcessed lcally in a safe, envirnmentally sund way. 4 Abut the vacancy As a result f the cntinuus grwth f the rganizatin, a vacancy has becme available fr a full-time Prject Manager. Jb descriptin: - Prject management Supprt the management team in the prject nbarding prcess (e.g. review new prject applicatins, challenge business plans) and mnitring & evaluatin prcess (e.g. prcess reprts, fllw-up n prject prgress) Manage prject develpment, i.e. identify, evaluate and crdinate the needs f beneficiary partners in develping cuntries and prvide technical assistance t the prjects Prepare transbundary shipments f e-waste (i.e. btain permits, rganize cntainer transprts, handle administratin with transprt & recycling cmpanies, maintain relatins with related agencies and cmpanies, stay apprised f changes in prcesses & prcedures per cuntry) Prvide administrative supprt n the develpment and implementatin f prjects (e.g. draft cntracts, prcess dcumentatin, fllw-up, etc.) - Partnership management Build and maintain existing relatins with prject partners and stakehlders in develping cuntries; Tgether with the management team, manage and crdinate a netwrk f peratinal partners in Eurpe (e.g. transprt cmpanies, recyclers, etc.); Supprt the management team with the identificatin f new funding surces & building new partnerships (e.g. perfrm research, write grant prpsals, etc.); Supprt the management team in maintaining gd relatins with WrldLp strategic partners, spnsrs, stakehlders and e-waste expert platfrms - Marketing & cmmunicatin Supprt the prjects managing lcal awareness campaigns Supprt the Business develpment & External relatins manager n marketing & cmmunicatin tpics (e.g. website updates, newsletter preparatin, scial media, event lgistics, drafting press releases, etc.) Prepare dnr and stakehlder reprts; Supprt management team in researching new pprtunities (events, awards, etc). 5 - Office management Manage WrldLp s CRM system Supprt the administrative assistant in managing thee accunts payable & receivable (e.g. invicing, fllw up n payments, budget) Hands-n supprt with varius administrative, ICT, facility and lgistical tasks fr the back-ffice f WrldLp s peratins.
