Bth cmpanies believe in UWYV s pwer t change the wrld, strengthen ur cmmunities, and create the next generatin f leaders and are prud t be wrking n the expansin f the prgram with the United Way f Nrth Central Massachusetts (UWNCM) and its prgram partners - Munt Wachusett Cmmunity Cllege (MWCC) and ASHOKA s Yuth Venture, (Ashka) Grants made pssible by This year, SimplexGrinnell will cnduct its 5 th Annual United Way wrkplace campaign that will include a fcus n the expansin f UWYV within the United Way system. Fr the secnd year, TYCO Integrated Security has als partnered in this extrardinary cmmitment t the yuth f America. As a result f the funds raised during these campaigns, this cmpetitin will prvide supprt t assist at least ne United Way in the start-up f a UWYV prgram. SimplexGrinnell and TYCO Integrated Security emplyee cntributins are making this grant pssible. As business and cmmunity leaders, they recgnize that empwered yuth, identifying causes that change their cmmunities becme strnger students, better citizens and future leaders. UWYV prvides the pprtunity fr yuth t nt nly dream, but t carry ut their dream and becme a generatin f changemakers. 2 United Way Yuth Venture Grant Cmpetitin RFP DETAILS- Pg 2 UWYV Prgram Descriptin United Way Yuth Venture reaches ut t yung peple, inspiring them t take initiative and make psitive, lasting change in their cmmunities. When they learn early in life that they are pwerful and capable f leading scial change, they are mre likely t cntinue t lead thrughut their lives. Ventures are cmpletely yuth-created & yuth-led and we believe that any yung persn wh has an idea fr imprving their cmmunity and launches a Venture will emerge transfrmed. Yuth invlved in UWYV take smething that they are passinate abut r interested in and address a need they see in their cmmunity. Ventures range frm building a skate park t starting a tutring club that helps yunger students during lunch perid. Thrugh the prcess f launching a Venture, yung peple learn the imprtant skills f leadership, teamwrk, entrepreneurship and empathy as well as ther valuable life skills. This yuth-led prgram uses adults as guides nly. All actins and decisins are placed within the hands f yung peple. The respnsibility fr creating a cmmunity benefit rests entirely with them, frm inceptin t implementatin t sustainability - leaving future management f prjects t the yung peple f tmrrw. Designed fr yung peple ages frm all backgrunds, UWYV prvides pprtunity fr ALL yuth, nt just natural brn leaders r high achievers. In Nrth Central Massachusetts, UWYV is cllabratin between UWNCM, Munt Wachusett Cmmunity Cllege (prgram manager), Ashka s Yuth Venture & lcal schl systems. In the schl year, UWYV partnered with 18 middle and high schls in 11 area schl districts, ne cmmunity cllege and tw cmmunity-based rganizatins/after schl prgrams. A few statistics UWYV Teams have launched since 2002, with 135 remaining active. Of all f the Yuth Venture partnerships natinally, United Way Yuth Venture f Nrth Central Massachusetts hlds the largest cntingency f engaged students and teams. In FY13, UWYV was able t prvide this experience t Venturers at a cst f $2, per team at a cst f $ per student engaged in United Way Yuth Venture. UWYV engaged mre than 252 adult vlunteers If yur United Way is cmmitted t yuth and interested in this cmpetitin, and it meets the eligibility requirements, yu are asked t submit an Applicatin Cver Sheet (attached), alng with a Prpsal Infrmatin that speaks t yur rganizatin s readiness t implement this prgram, yur current cnnectin with schl systems in yur area, and yur ability t sustain the prgram beynd the pilt grant. 3 RFP DETAILS- Pg 3 ELIGIBILITY All United Ways with a SimplexGrinnell ffice r a TYCO Integrated Security ffice in their service area that d nt currently have a UWYV prgram, may apply. Successful United Ways will have and be able t shw- a clearly defined fcus n the develpment/educatin f yuth r a strng desire t create yuth as a fcus; a successful wrking relatinship with lcal schl systems shwn thrugh letters f supprt; ability and cmmitment t cntinue and sustain this prgram beynd the pilt phase; a cmmitment t creating a generatin f changemakers; a cmmitment t a lng-term relatinship with SimplexGrinnell and/r TYCO Integrated Security as funder f the United Way Yuth Venture prgram in yur area; a passin fr implementing a yuth-led vs adult-cntrlled prgram GRANT EXPECTATIONS The successful United Way will launch United Way Yuth Venture in their lcal schl system(s) beginning at the start f the schl year. Within the first year, the grant recipient(s) will: Launch United Way Yuth Venture in up t 4 schls Launch 4 r mre teams within each schl Each team will have apprximately 4 t 6 yuth participants resulting in the active participatin f apprximately 100 yung peple by June Wrk with SimplexGrinnell and/r TYCO Integrated Security district ffice t define plans and expectatins fr district supprt and participatin. Engage District emplyees t participate n UWYV panels and UW cmmunity events Participate in quarterly update cnference calls that include the district ffice, the United Way f Nrth Central Massachusetts, SimplexGrinnell and/r TYCO Integrated Security crprate representatives and Yuth Venture, Inc. Maintain prper reprting n prgram prgress and results with Yuth Venture field staff. All applicatins will be evaluated based n: SELECTION CRITERIA Quality and realistic expectatins f the plan as utlined in the Cncept Paper Current schl relatinships Readiness f yur United Way fr the pilt Evidence f ability and intent t sustain the prgram beynd the pilt stage Training is nt an aspect f decisin-making t determine the award recipient - hwever, the grant recipient must either attend the training sessin as an invited 2014 semi-finalist r have been in attendance at a prir training.

Organizatins interested in applying fr the pilt award must: 1. Cmplete the Applicatin Cver Sheet and answer all Prpsal Infrmatin Questins. 2. STEP 3 TRAINING Training will take place n June 12 th & June 13 th 2014 at the DubleTree by Hiltn in Leminster, MA and attendance is a requirement f the grant.

It is als imprtant t nte that attending this training prvides yur rganizatin with the tls and knwledge that will enable yur United Way t implement this prgram in yur area, as ther semi-finalists have dne irrespective f the grant award. June 12 th Implementatin training will begin at 9:00 a.m. t 4:30 p.m. Mrning cffee/tea and lunch will be prvided. The winning finalist(s) will be annunced at an evening dinner event and will receive an award letter fr $30,000 fr its pilt prgram. PLEASE NOTE: June 13 th Training will cntinue frm 9:00 a.m. t nn.
