In 2015, Melrose Community Education served over 3,000 community members. Our student enrollment at Melrose High School is 1371 and has been consistent over the past five years. Our enrollment is projected to increase 10% in the next 10 years. Melrose offers a youth archery program called National Archery in the Schools. This program is offered in our high school physical education classes, and as a team sport through Community Education. Our 2015 Summer Recreation program had over 1,800 participants with 300+ hours of activities. With the current cost for state college credits at +/- $135 per credit, the Melrose concurrent enrollment program saved our district families approximately $287, last year alone! Our Melrose campus offers college courses yearly. Qualifying students have an opportunity to earn 60 or more college credits prior to high school graduation without ever leaving our campus! Melrose Area High School has a very active and organized Student Council and National Honor Society, with 23 and 41 students involved respectively. Melrose graduating class of 2016 scored a 74.8% proficient rating on the 2015 MCA Math exam, 26% higher than the state average. A number of our industrial education teacher assistants are actively involved in fixing and improving our school environment, taking skills that they have learned in their courses and applying that knowledge on various projects throughout the campus. Melrose High School is proud of Senior, Hannah Miller; a recent National Merit Scholarship qualifier!! 1

We ve had the following Gymnastics Program Accomplishments: - WCC Champs: , Section Champs: , , State 3rd Place: 1998, 2000, 2001, 2004, State 2nd Place: 1993, 2013, State Champs: 1994, 1995, 2012, State True Team Champions: 2000 & Individual State Titles: 6 Gymnasts : 17 Gold Medals - State Record Holders: 2 (Still to this day) - All Elite Award Winners: (Top 5 All Around Gymnast average in State) 12 awards (5 gymnasts) - State Medal Winners: 13 Gymnasts : 71 medals (1st 6th) Achievement and Integration Revenue has provided services for students throughout the school year for 7 years. In that time services have been provided to over 1800 students and their parents. We offer the following elective classes in the Middle School for all students: Art, Computer, Music, Band, Choir, Industrial Technology, Reading, Skills, and FACS. The Middle School offers the following Incentive Days: - 1st quarter: Movies - 2nd quarter: Arrowwood Waterpark or Andes Tower Hills for skiing - 3rd quarter: swimming and/or movie at school - 4th quarter: Valleyfair The Middle School offers: - SPED services for students who may need extra help. - ELL services for students who many need extra help. - High Math for students in grades 7 and 8 - At least one school dance per quarter for students. - Technology embedded curriculum in some classes. We offer differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students. Our curriculum is aligned to state standards to ensure what is taught is supposed to be taught. Melrose Curriculum = State Standards! We have Pre-K through 12 mapped curriculum to ensure the same material is taught to all students across the board to meet state standards. We have new Pre-K Reading and Math Curriculum to strengthen our Early Childhood program. Our district has been awarded 2 grants to support student achievement and 2 MN reading corps tutors for fiscal years 15, 16 and 17. We have a balanced literacy reading program we call Dally Five/CAFÉ. 4

Our district uses research-based instructional strategies to deliver curriculum. We have roughly 100 students that walk outside in the snow to get to their shop/mechanics classes. Visitors think our schools are AWESOME!!! The following is an correspondence excerpt written to our district: I have had the opportunity as a reading specialist/consultant to visit schools throughout Minnesota. I want to compliment you and your staff on the use of the Balanced Literacy, Dally 5, CAFÉ, and LLI in your school. How fortunate for the students in Melrose to be receiving literacy instruction that meets the needs of ALL students. It s great to see everyone on the same page. In fact, [I recommended to the school that I was in today that] they visit Melrose to see Dally 5, CAFÉ, Balanced Literacy done in all classrooms and done well. Thanks Jan Ferraro, Licensed Reading Specialist Our swimming program is one of the most popular programs we offer with over 500 students and adults participating. Our swimming program participation from this past year encompassed the following: - Open swim: 15 people every week - Swimming lessons during summer: roughly 500 kids - One life guard training: included 10 kids - Scuba diving lessons: 15 kids - Summer: 90 kids that do competitive swim - Spring: 90 kids between competitive & sync swim for elementary kids people every morning for lap swim students use pool during PE curriculum - 42 participants in girls program - 30 participants in boys program - 50 participants in sync swim Our swim program consists of girls swimming, boys swimming and synchronize swimming throughout the year. Our pool is not only used by students but also the community through our community ed swim program which includes open swim, swimming lessons, elementary competitive swim, high school competitive swim in the summer, life training and scuba diving lessons. The current pool space cannot accommodate a big meet or lend itself to practice as the existing pool is six lanes and the space only seats 150 people. Having a six lane pool causes scheduling challenges as there is limited space to practice both diving and swim, limiting the number of students who can use the pool at the same time. Diving Practice is held before school at 6:30am to help with space limitations in our 6 lane pool. 5

Our pool area experiences significant issues at meets with overcrowding which can trigger excessive heat in a space that is already warm and humid. The gymnastics program lacks the space to hold needed equipment and also limits students from practicing more challenging techniques. The gymnastics program is currently sharing space and as such, equipment has to be moved and stored (which is hard on the equipment) when not in use to allow other programs access. We currently do not have enough classroom space to accommodate our current students and programs as well as our projected enrollment growth. We have roughly 100 students that walk outside in the snow to get to their shop/mechanics classes. There is insufficient space available for dance team and also for track, and tennis practice during inclement weather. There is also insufficient classroom for physical education during inclement weather Our school schedules limits when our community can use our space for Community Ed activities such as Zumba, Yoga and walking because of space constraints. The performing arts center seating is obsolete; replacement parts are no longer able to be found and purchased. Hardware and upholstery are failing on a large number of seats. The stage curtain in our performing arts center is past its service life and is fraying and torn in multiple areas. The wrestling room can only currently house about 25 kids and the district now has 65 wrestlers utilizing a space for practice that is old and undersized for the current program. Our weight room is not in a location that is available for community use and is also undersized and will not allow space for additional equipment. Our gymnastics program includes the following: - 3 separate programs for elementary students K participating students between fall, spring and summer th - 12 th graders use space during the winter - Roughly Rising Stars participants that use space in winter The Dance team holds practices in our Cafeterias and Lobbies after school. We have 3 different teams competing. They get shuffled around a lot with many activities happening in those areas. 6

We hold late practices for our GBB and BBB teams in November, December, January, and February. These practices are held from 5:00 to 7:00pm. We have 8 teams practicing for BBB and GBB at any given time. We ve lost the following community education programs over the past several years due to facility constraints: - Yoga and TaeKwonDo. We had to limit the theatre camps we offered due to space constraints each year, but our theatre is also very busy, so we are limited on how many of these camps we can offer. Our High School gym is used for Community Archery for several weeks in the fall and winter months Our High School Cafeteria is used for Community Zumba on Monday evenings Our pool is used for Community Water Aerobics on Mondays evenings Youth Basketball use all 5 gyms 7
